rlgleason51 0 Report post Posted January 21, 2016 How do,others handle this situation. I have witnesses (friends) to an event (burial) that are not related. I had been adding them to my database but that results in 'orphans'. How do others treat these type of witnesses?
Terry Reigel 0 Report post Posted January 21, 2016 Bob, What is the problem with having unrelated persons in the database? I don't have a lot of them. Generally if a person involved with and event isn't known to be related I don't enter them, but just put their name in the Memo if I think it's important. But I do sometimes enter people who figure largely in the family, or who have a similar surname and I think they may prove to be related. When I do I mark them with a "Connected" flag, and use that flag to drive a distinctive color with Accents. Creating and initially populating the flag is described in my article Creating a "Connected" Flag. I then put it on the Add Person screen so I can mark newly entered people as I add them. rlgleason51 0 Report post Posted January 21, 2016 The problem is that the individual's in question were just friends of the family attending the burial and definitely not a relation. Felt odd adding them to my database just to have them as witnesses.
Terry Reigel 0 Report post Posted January 21, 2016 Bob, Then I wouldn't. Just enter their names in the memo if you want them included.
rlgleason51 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2016 Thanks. Thought so, but feel better having the option affirmed.
