Kwykoff 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2005 Is there a particular place to post questions by new users? Or should I just use the TMG v6 Forum? I'm just importing data and beginning to use the program, so feel I have many very basic questions that I'm not sure where to ask. Jim Byram has already helped a lot, but I don't want to be a pest. Thanks

Thanks The WG Forum is the best place to ask questions about a tmg software problem - like install and import (as you did). The TMG-L mailing list might be a better place to ask about techniques for using TMG - entering census data, sources, etc. - though you will get help on those kinds of questions on the forum as well. Jim Byram is the import guru (among other guru-capabilities) and will usually find those messages whether on the mailing list or the forum. I highly recommend the tmg-l mailing list - a very friendly group where the most basic of questions are welcome. ggilbert1 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2005 Yes post your questions to the V6 forum. You also might want to join the TMG Mailing List http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/other/Software/TMG.html and cross post your inquiries there. Sometimes the volume of messages on the list can be quite large, there are more TMG users that participate there, and you will get a wider perspective on how to accomplish something in TMG. The forum is operated by Wholly Genes, and is the 'official' communication channel, while the mailing list on Rootsweb is user operated. The mailing list has archives dating back to the early days of TMG.

Terry Reigel's tmg tips: http://tmg.reigelridge.com/ Lee Hoffman's tmgtips page: http://www.tmgtips.com/ Thank you Virginia. I've been studying Terry's tips and find them really useful. I've also been looking at Lee's site. I have the book "Getting the Most ......", done the guided tour and already found a user group. BUT I didn't know about the Mailing-L. I'm very familiar with the RootsWeb-L lists (I actually moderate one) and will be joining it shortly. The next meeting of the user group isn't until 3rd week in Nov and I have questions now. I just didn't know where to ask them. So the List will be great. Thanks so much. Kaye
