tdavislong@yahoo.com 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2006 Ok, I did something I shouldn't and then I changed it back. I changed the advanced\reports screen file to something else, but then I changed it back to C:\PROGRAM FILES\THE MASTER GENEALOGIST\reports\. At the same time I changed the file types. My problem is that now I can't change the file type for pedigree reports. I deselected all the file types on the report definition screen and then I changed the selection of file types to Acrobat, Word, ASCII and Word Perfect only in Pedigree charts. When I went back to generate a pedigree report, the only option offered was Acrobat. I can see the report in the on-screen view, but it won't show me the report when I look for it in Acrobat as a PDF file. AND it is only offering me the choice in Acrobat. I don't want to print the entire file, only selected pages. And I want to see it as a .wpd file. IF I am at the preferences\reports page and select reset defaults, will it rest only the report defaults or all the defaults I've changed? Thanks,
Terry Reigel 0 Report post Posted June 13, 2006 When I went back to generate a pedigree report, the only option offered was Acrobat.Yes, that's the only file type that is available for the Pedigree Report. The Compressed Pedigree does offer other file types.I can see the report in the on-screen view, but it won't show me the report when I look for it in Acrobat as a PDF file.If you set it to produce the report as a PDF, you must be viewing it in Acrobat. No? My guess is you when you try to open it again in Acrobat you are looking in My Documents rather than the folder where it's stored. When you look at the Report Definition, where does it say it's placing the file?I don't want to print the entire file, only selected pages. You should be able to do that with Acrobat Reader. And I want to see it as a .wpd file.Sorry, that is not available for this report. IF I am at the preferences\reports page and select reset defaults, will it rest only the report defaults or all the defaults I've changed? The Preferences settings apply only to new report definitions. They will not change any definitions you have previously saved.
tdavislong@yahoo.com 0 Report post Posted June 14, 2006 Yes, that's the only file type that is available for the Pedigree Report. The Compressed Pedigree does offer other file types. Terry, Thanks, the primary answer I need was "Pedigree charts are only available as .PDF" If you set it to produce the report as a PDF, you must be viewing it in Acrobat. No? No, actually I did an onscreen viewing, I wasn't in Acrobat. My guess is you when you try to open it again in Acrobat you are looking in My Documents rather than the folder where it's stored. When you look at the Report Definition, where does it say it's placing the file? Actually, I did a search for the file name after I couldn't find it with the Acrobat Reader. I need to go look again. Again thanks for the great answer. TDL
Terry Reigel 0 Report post Posted June 14, 2006 You're welcome. You did click the "Print & Save" button, not the "Save" button, right? It should offer to open it in Acrobat after the file is created. Terry
Neil Grantham 0 Report post Posted November 13, 2006 Yes, that's the only file type that is available for the Pedigree Report. The Compressed Pedigree does offer other file types. This was a response stating that only Acrobat PDF output is available in terms of saving a file in Reports>Pedigree. Why is that? Is it the Graphical content?
Kevin Schultz 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2006 If you set it to produce the report as a PDF, you must be viewing it in Acrobat. No? No, actually I did an onscreen viewing, I wasn't in Acrobat. TDL It sounds like you had the destination set to screen. If so, when you "print and save" it prints to the screen, but does not create a file at the same time. To create the file, you have to choose the file destination and then "print and save". It does not create an onscreen view directly, but after completing the file export asks if you want to open the file. If you want to view it choose yes, then it opens the file with Acrobat (Acrobat or other PDF viewer has to be installed). Kevin
