Merge roles, is it possible?

I have some roles set up with my death tags, called father, mother, child, etc. to show the relationship of the person listed on the DC.

 

I now believe that i need to merge the roles, of mother and father to be the role of parent, so that I can have better sentenace structures. Can you merge roles together?

 

I also will need to merge roles for census records, to be more in line with Terry's roles of with parents, etc.

I did something similar by creating a new role like your parent and then using TMG Utility to change the roles from Mother to Parent and then from Father to parent.
