Now that the TMG user community has had some time to post to the Wholly Genes Comminity, I am finding that it is a great repository but lacks whole heartly in communicating information.

First users need to get on board and must individually subscribe to each forum in order to be notified of a new topic or reply. First problem, the user cannot visually see to which forum s/he is subscribed to.

It is recommended that the background on the "Subscribe to this forum" button be changed to a different color once the user has subscribed so that the user can visually see which of the forums are open for posting and which are not. Or possible the button contents changed to something like "subscribed - to unsubscribe"

Since some of the replies contents are included in the TMG list posts, it would seem that once posting a reply and on subsequent viewing of the reply, selecting the "email" button and identifying an email address, the reply contents are included in the post.

It would seem beneficial that all replies, with contents, when appropriate be automatically posted to email active forum subscribers. It would seem appropriate that all forum announcements, with contents, be posted to email active forum subscribers.

In the overall then, the Wholly Genes Community (WGC) Forums would use the TMG lists as its vehicle to communicate posts and replies. In essence, the TMG lists becomes the "telephone" while the WGC is the centeralized answering unit and the repository for the information.

The hole in this methodology is that list replies would not be posted as replies to forum topics unless some unit of reference is established, such as a number, and the WGC become a member of the list monitoring each post for the topic number and automatically establishing the topic reply.

Users do not need to subscribe to a forum in order to post a topic, only if they want to receive e-mail notification. I have discontinued all my subscriptions, finding it much quicker - and less clutter in my mailbox - to occasionally check View New Posts.

As Virginia says, you don't need to subscribe to post - subscribing only notifies you of new topics in that forum.

It is recommended that the background on the "Subscribe to this forum" button be changed to a different color once the user has subscribed so that the user can visually see which of the forums are open for posting and which are not.  Or possible the button contents changed to something like "subscribed - to unsubscribe"   assuming the user would have this option.

I agree it would be nice if the "Subscribe..." button refected that you were already subscribed. But in the meantime, you can review all your subscriptions from your control panel.

Now the user posts a topic.  When doing so the user gets to choose if the topic is to be email communicated or not, default is communicate.

I don't see an option to choose whether your post is to be communicated. That's controlled by whether or not any given user has subscribed to that forum. The only option I see related to e-mail is whether you want to receive e-mail notification of any replies to your post.

Why should not all posting and replies be automatically email communicated and the user's profile dictate who is to recieve them?

You can control in your control panel what the default setting is for the e-mail notification of any replies to your post.

I don't think most users would want a default setting that deluged them with e-mails. I'd think most users would want to follow a few topics, and would subscribe to them, ignoring the others.

In the overall then, the Wholly Genes Community (WGC) Beta Forums ...

I don't think this is the place to discuss beta issues.
