=== The perfect last-minute gift for a genealogist ============

Are you scrambling for a last-minute gift for a friend or relative who is a family researcher? Or perhaps they are scrambling for a last-minute gift for YOU!

A gift certificate from Wholly Genes is a great gift because it lets the researcher pick from _thousands_ of products, including standard genealogy reference books, data CDs, and, of course, software and companion products. Gift Certificates are available in a variety of denominations, starting at just $10.00. You can order them online and immediately print a color certificate that makes a great stocking-stuffer!

=== Cruise News ===================================

Already more than 100 people have signed up for the 2008 Genealogy Conference and Cruise - and the event is still 10 months away! This is our fourth annual event and it always sells out so don't wait until Spring or you may miss your chance.

This year's cruise is one-way from New York to San Juan, Puerto Rico but don't be misled about airfare. Like New York, San Juan has a major international airport and you can get a ticket home to most American hub cities for less than $200. That is, there is no penalty for booking two one-way tickets instead of one round-trip.

So come spend a week vacationing in the Caribbean while also learning from some of the most renown genealogists and technology experts from the United States, England, and Ireland. Our conference is famous for its unparalleled list of big-name presenters, rivaling even those of land-based conferences. But for even less money, you also get a Caribbean vacation!

This year's participants include:

o Elizabeth Shown Mills, CG, CGL, FASG, FNGS, longtime editor of the National Genealogical Society Quarterly.

o Barbara Vines Little, CG, former president of the National Genealogical Society and Virginia Genealogical Society.

o John Grenham, Ireland's foremost genealogist.

o John Titford, LHG FSG, prominent British genealogist and popular author.

o Craig Scott, MA, CG, certified genealogist and military record expert.

o Megan Smolenyak Smolenyak, professional genealogist and popular author.

o Cyndi Howells of Cyndislist.com, an expert at online resources.

o Tony Burroughs, FUGA, popular genealogical author, teacher, and lecturer.

o Robert Charles Anderson, FASG, Director of the Great Migration Study Project for NEHGS.

o Sandra Hewlett, CG, professional researcher and councilor for the New England Historic Genealogical Society.

o Dick Eastman, technology expert and editor of Eastman's Online Genealogy Newsletter.

Genealogical presentations will be about methodology and tools but unrelated to any particular software -- so they will be of interest to ANY family researcher. New lecture topics will also interest veterans of our earlier cruises. You'll even have opportunities for private consultations with the experts to help solve your brick walls.

Users of TMG and its companion programs will also have access to a variety of additional lectures on those topics, as well one-on-ones with experts like Bob Velke, Jim Byram, Lee Hoffman, John Cardinal, and the Wholly Genes technical support staff.

A crew from Roots Television accompanied our 2007 event and published a 14-minute story, including interviews with lots of individual participants. See what all the hubbub is about and watch this great film for FREE from:

http://www.rootstelevision.com/players/pla...?bctid=13322104

On the right side of that screen you'll find links to additional interviews with Tony Burroughs, Cyndi Howells, Megan Smolenyak, John Grenham, and John Cardinal. As you will see in the films from Roots Television, we always have a great time, learn a lot, and discover new cousins and friendly fellow researchers.

=== New U.S. Data CDs ===================

The following new data CDs support full-text search and are now available from www.WhollyGenes.com:

BOSTON BIRTHS, BAPTISMS, MARRIAGES, AND DEATHS, 1630-1699 AND BOSTON BIRTHS, 1700-1800, (1883 & 1894) 2007

$12.95 http://www.WhollyGenes.com/find_wg.mvc?ref...WS&p=US0361

The first of these volumes collects in one place all surviving vital records for the original town of Boston in the seventeenth century, along with the baptisms from the First Church of Boston. The second volume continues with all surviving Boston birth records for the entire eighteenth century.

DULANY'S HISTORY OF MARYLAND FROM 1632 TO 1882 PREPARED FOR THE USE OF SCHOOLS IN THE STATE, (1881) 2007

$9.95 http://www.WhollyGenes.com/find_wg.mvc?ref...WS&p=US0377

Written by an unidentified author and published as a history book for Maryland students in 1881 this is not a detailed history-rather it provides a brief outline of events sprinkled with details intended to interest the student. The author states that "nothing of interest to the general reader has been omitted"- words of wisdom having "been gathered from preambles to her laws, old and new; from her ancient and modern records, her Indian treaties, and her revolutionary constitution." === UPDATED: GedStar PRO v3.2 ======================

GHCS Software has announced an update to their popular program for PalmOS™ handheld PDAs and smartphones. This new version supports improves compatibility for Vista users, the ability to filter to-do items to show or not show completed tasks, and some other minor revisions.

As always, the upgrade is free to all current owners of the product, but you will have to re-convert any of your existing databases after installing the new version. This is always required after a major update to the internal data format.

=== UPDATED: Pocket Genealogist v3.11 =================

Northern Hills Software, the makers of the popular Pocket Genealogist for PocketPC's and other "Windows Powered" mobile devices has announced a new update v3.11. This new version includes:

- Initial support for Family Tree Maker 2008 imports (using GEDCOM). The PAF/FTM add-on does not yet work with FTM 2008 but Wholly Genes Software is working on adding support.

- Ancestor and Descendant Tree Views now work better with regards to adding individuals to the "History List".

- Ancestor and Descendant Tree View buttons will "highlight" depending on which view is selected. (Button will have a yellow background when "highlighted".) This helps determine which tree view is in use.

- Fix to "Find by Relationship" button and the Relationship calculator so that it honors what is selected on the 3-gen, Individual or Tree views.

- Family Historian: Fix to GEDCOM export for Research List notes.

- Fix to relationship calculator to process a full 10 generations. (Was only going out 9 generations.)

- Change to 3-gen screen to show the complete given name IF 2 line display. (Name on one line, dates on another... for example PocketPC Landscape mode)

- Smartphones: Fix to Individual and Tree Views to work properly when switching to another program and back to Pocket Genealogist.

- Smartphones: Fix to properly translate menu for tree views.

- Smartphones: Change to allow "back" button to operate as a "backspace" when on an edit field. (Motorola Q for example does not have a backspace button.)

- Allow install on Windows 98 and ME, but no guarantee Pocket Genealogist will work properly on those systems.

- 30 Day trial now more strongly enforced.
