  1. TMG on Eee PC in Linux

The writeup for TMG 7 under the link above says: I suggest if you have Windows XP Licence. Copy the following fonts to your wine font directory * wingding.ttf That's just it, I can't find the Wine Font Directory. What I thought was it won't let me put the font in there. It says it is a protected file and then when I try other ones that I have found on the internet using the command line screen it says those file folders don't exist. I guess I need someone to tell me the exact file path of where I need to put the wingding file. I do have an XP license.
  2. TMG on Eee PC in Linux

I was using the latest version of Wine and I saw that entry at TMG for Wine but it says to install the windings font but does not say where to install it. I tried several different places that I saw on the internet but all of those file names said they did not exist. I hadn't heard of Vmware, I may need to look into that. How well does it work? Have you tried it on something as slow as the Eee PC? Although the Eee PC 901 is supposed to be considerably faster but it still isn't cutting edge...
  3. I was wondering if anyone has ever been able to get TMG to run in the version of Xandros Linux on the Eee PC? I have installed Edubuntu on my current laptop and was not able to get it running using Wine but I am very new to Linux and had issues with the fonts. I like the clean look, battery saving features and quick start-up times that the Linux Eee PC has to offer and TMG is the only Window's program that I absolutely have to have when I am on the road. Other than TMG I can use OpenOffice for my notes and things and I use the internet for my e-mail. I will have to get the XP one if I cannot get this figured out before I order my computer next month. Note to the people at WhollyGenes: Linux is becoming ever more popular. Working on making your program work in Linux would be wonderful!
  4. I had trouble going from v. 5 to v. 6 on my computer. It was a fairly fast computer, Wholly Genes could find nothing wrong with my file, it just ran slow. No problems were ever found and then I got a new computer and everything ran fine. I haven't had any problems since. I would probably recommend re-installing Windows and then installing TMG to see if that helps. It is a big process but I really think it is a Window's issue vs. a TMG issue. Good luck!
  5. Okay, I am trying to do this, install TMG7 using Wine in Edubuntu. This is just a trial run because I would like to get an Eee PC 900 in the next couple of months and want to get the Linux version. However, if I can't make TMG run in it then I will have to get the XP one. I was able to install Winetricks but then I get stuck with installing the windings font. I have tried moving the font to some of the possible folders that are listed on the internet but they all say that they don't exist. Do you have any suggestions for me for installing the font? Winetricks worked just fine it is just this silly windings one that is giving me problems! Any help would be appreciated. We are making a move away from Windows in our family (awful experience using Vista and our old XP machine we want to throw out the window (however that is probably more of a Dell problem than a window's problem)). Thanks for any help you can give!!! Cindy
  6. Version 7

I second that!!!! Who wants to tell us what they saw at Ft. Wayne this weekend?
  7. Census data

Jpeg's are fine as long as you don't need to open them and edit them. That is when they start to lose quality. If you plan on just viewing them and not editing them again and again then they are fine. I save documents as Jpeg's when I scan them in. Another way to save them would be to save them as a PDF file as well. These are becoming increasingly popular for saving documents. I save TIFF files for old pictures that I am going to need to edit and do some work on. I don't know about submitting to publications though, if I were you I would get in contact with them to see. I haven't submitted things before so I really can't say on this. If that is true and that is what you are working towards then definitely go with what they want.
  8. Thanks Jim!!! I missed that in the document. I guess I will just have to live with it until v. 7 comes out then. Hopefully we won't have to do that with version 7! To tell the truth though I am thinking of moving to a Macbook for my next computer probably running Windows XP in Parallels. I haven't made my final decision yet though. My husband will be getting a Macbook in a couple of months and after I see that I will make my decision.
  9. I was wondering how to get Vista to permanently allow TMG to run. This is the only program that I am having a problem with it asking every single time I open it, which between my files and my clients can be several times a day. It would be really nice if I did not have to click on Allow each time. Other than that I am not having any problems running it under Vista. Any suggestions?
  10. Program Running Slow

I have tried all of the different things, the cpu usage with TMG running is low but the spikes are higher than they are when it is not running. I guess I will try tech support. I don't know if they will be able to help me any. This is the only program that I have this problem with, running slow I mean, and it began as soon as I upgraded.
  11. Program Running Slow

What should I do then? Should I call tech support?
  12. When I upgraded from v. 5 to v. 6 I noticed that the program ran a lot slower. I hoped that some of the things in this lates 6.8 update would help but it still runs really slow. I have tried all of the maintenance things under the file menu with no luck. I have very few exhibits in and under 500 people. For instance, it takes a full 10 seconds for the Preferences box to come up. I know I have a lot to learn about TMG. I have only started using TMG in the past year and a half and only seriously in the past few months. I have a relatively fast computer, 1.6 GHz Pentium 4 with 512 MB of RAM. I regularly run clean disk and defragmenter so those are not a problem. Any more suggestions for me?
