I tried to upgrade from 8.00 to 8.02 using "search for update" from

TMG.

The install produced the following messages:

Module

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\bbListViewV.ocx failed to register

HRESULT -2147024770

C:\ProgramFiles (x86)\The Master Genealogist V8\VFp9r.dll failed to register

HRESULT -2147024770

C:\ProgramFiles (x86)\The Master Genealogist V8\VFp9t.dll failed to register

HRESULT -2147024770

There is a problem with this Windows installer package. A program run

as part of the setup did not finish as expected.

The ROLLBACK then proceeded to delete ALL of my TMGv8 program files, data, and icons.

I tried re-running the 8.02 install file located in ProgramData\The Master Genealogist

v8 Installer, but it didn't work. Then I tried downloading the version 8 free trial install file

but it didn't work either. When I click on install it just sits there and does nothing.

So what do I do now? TMG has no v8 installer that works at all?

In the meantime, will the 8.00 backup work on TMG 7.04? My latest 7.04 backups are way out of date.

What is the safest way to proceed?

I made a copy of the install log (2MB).

Delete any remnant program folder. The default for an all users installation would be:

"C:Program FilesThe Master Genealogist v8"

or

"C:Program Files (x86)The Master Genealogist v8"

depending on your operating system.

If you did a single user installation, then the default for that would be:

"C:Usersuser account nameAppDataLocalProgramsThe Master Genealogist v8"

Bottom line... Delete any remnant _program_ folder.

Your TMG _data_ folders have nothing to do with the installer so do not need to be deleted.

Delete any 'The Master Genealogist v8' folder in the VirtualStore.

"C:Usersuser account nameAppDataLocalVirtualStoreProgram Files (x86)The Master Genealogist v8"

Drag the installer from the installer folder to your desktop so that you can use it. Then delete the installer folder.

"C:ProgramDataThe Master Genealogist v8 Installer"

Then try again. Be sure to install using the same path as previously used so that your existing data folders will be used.
