ejc 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2008 I am about to have a parting of the ways with FTM due to their not yet supporting Book publishing in FTM2008 and when they do, it will not be backwards compatible with FTM16. Where can I find a complete list of "everything" that can be imported from Family Tree Maker 16 into TMG7? By "everything" I mean all raw data plus images in FTM scrapbooks, saved reports, saved Books (including photos linked to scrap books), etc. FTM is already going to force me to rewrite an extensive collection of published documents stored in my FTM files so I expect major pain. The more pain you can save me, the more likely I am to switch myself and my clients to TMG. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Jim Byram 0 Report post Posted July 7, 2008 Some data that should be imported is not... marriage images, citation images, source images, the image 'Date of origin' data. OLE objects are not imported. Unlinked citations are not imported. These don't meet the standard of citations being links between data and sources. TMG does not support unlinked citations. FTM uses one Fact field for two types of data... location and comments. You need to use the Advanced Import Wizard to adjust how this data is imported for each type of Fact. For example, you want Birth fact data imported as place data and Occupation fact data imported to the TMG event memo field. Using the Advanced Import Wizard to deal with this issue saves considerable post-import cleanup. There is no standard between different genealogy databases as to report definitions so this data can't be imported. Different programs use different report engines, have completely different specs for report options, and store report definition data in different ways.
