Importing from FTW

Recommended Posts

I have a 5mb FTW file (FTM2005) that became unreadable after a software freeze up. I have worked with FTM tech support who have been unable to open the file or get the data out of the file. They say they have no utilities to do such a thing!?! The data in the file CAN be read and displayed by GENViewer (but no data can be added or changed).

We downloaded a trial copy of TMG to see if it could read the file and if my wife could work with it going forward. My wife said although she'd like to stay with what she has years of expereince with, if another program could read her file, she'd be willing to switch.

Trying to import this file to TMG v7.03 trial edition, I get the error message: "Error opening file greenbanks.ftw. Please verify that it is not in use elsewhere." (It is not in use elsewhere.)

Are you willing to make suggestions or look at our file to see if there is a way to read the data into TMG?

I'm thinking that if GV can "read" the file and display the data but FTM and TMG can't "open" the file, that points to a specific, finite number of possibilities to someone who knows the FTW database structure (eg. eof, pointer, counter, etc.) If you are willing to help, my wife says she's willing to invest the time to learn TMG.

Thanks for any help you can give us!

Ken

Ken,

This isn't the response from Wholly Genes.

I have some ideas and need the FTM database to try a couple of things.
