I have just bought V8 and imported some of my stuff from a gedcom, but most of the village names appear in the place allocated for 'country'. Is there any way in which I can transfer them to 'village / area' in bulk? Thank you. JB

Julia,
I had the same problem.
What I did is went to the TOOLS, Master Place Names List.
Then if you Realign Place Names click on a name on the right hand side (County) Press CTRL+Left the text in County will move to the left but also move any text in the next column to the left.

Note that since you do the action Derek describes in the Master Place List, every event which uses that specific place is changed (to use your phrase) "in bulk."
