I am trying to move from Family Tree Maker to TMGv7 with a database of over 9600 people. If I import via GEDCOM, my 130+ custom tags all import with the tag type "Event-Misc." Also, because FTM handles marriages differently than TMG, I am ending up with tags called "Reference" that have the marriage unique ID stored. Lastly, all the comments associated with my custom tags import to a place field rather than Memo, which is what I would prefer since the text is not place-related.
I can solve all these problems by importing directly from FTM. However, when I do that, I cannot set a default custom name style that will be applied to all my people upon import (which I can do with a GEDCOM import). Once the dataset has been imported, I can set a default custom name style that gets applied to NEW people I create, but manually adjusting the name style of 9600 people will take forever.
So, is there any way that I can import and both get my custom data imported properly AND have a custom name style used for all people?
Thanks for any guidance!

Ann, if adjusting the Name Style is the only issue with the direct import, you can change that after the import using my free TMG Utility program. It will make short work of changing the name style for all existing name tags. See the Change Name Style feature.
