I would like to print a report that contains just a list of the surnames in my file. Is there a way to do this? I found a report that will generate "names" but I don't want a listing of everyone in the database, just a list of the surnames. Thanks Catherine

Import Data/Media into TMG v7 Through Web Search
jabez1771 posted a topic in Older Products and Versions
In the past, when I used FTM, I had a subscription to Ancestry.com. I let that subscription expire because I had to put the genealogy on the back burner. I have now, finally, started using FTM (v7) because they have made the program easier to understand and learn. I, just today, went to Ancestry.com and subscribed to it again thinking I could use it in FTM. When I wasn't able to do this, I searched this forum to see if I was doing something wrong. From what I gather, we can no longer use the websearch feature with ancestry.com. OK, yes, that's a REAL PAIN but I can still you ancestry.com, right?? Well I guess my question now is, if I find data (i.e., cenus records) in a web search how do I get that data, associated media and citations into FTM?? If this is not possible, I might as well cancel my subscription. Can anyone provide some guidance on this? Thanks Catherine -
Is there any update on when TMG will be able to fully (without using gedcom) import from FTM 2008? I found a similar question posted in July 08: QUOTE (Jim Byram @ 14 Jul 2008, 09:59 AM) .FTMB is a Family Tree maker 2008 backup file. TMG7 does not currently import from FTM 2008. Your only choice is a GEDCOM from that FTM 2008 installation. Can you tell me when support for imports from FTM 2008 will be available? I'm impressed with your trial version of TMG7, but can't seriously consider it until I can import my many years of research. I tried using the GEDCOM option and it leaves out too much of my data to make that option feasible. Wow. Thank you very much Phil & Virginia. I have tried and tried to double click names on the PE to get them to the details window. I'll try to get the PE to "link" to the other windows and see if that works. Catherine -

I've run a search and although I'm sure that someone has asked this before I can't find it using the search option so please forgive me if this question has already been asked. If it's easier to just point me to another post that would be great to. I've had TMG for years but have never really used it because it was so complicated. I just recently upgraded to V7 and am now taking the time to learn the software. Here's my question, I can attach the project explorer to my layout but I'm still not sure what the purpose even is for it. I thought it would allow me to click on a person in the list to bring them into the details window so I could edit them but it seems that is not it's function. Then I remembered the picklist. With the picklist I can actually select a person to bring into the detail window but I can not get the picklist to attach to the layout window?? I'm sure there is either a reason why they do not allow this or something I'm missing but it sure does seem to me to be a pain to have to go up to the search option to open the picklist and then search for the next person I need to edit. Is there an easier way to select people that I don't know about?? Thank you. Catherine
