I am a new user tying to learn the ropes on using TMG. I was fortunate enough to find a source of ancestral information from a distant cousin who uses Family Tree Maker. He initially sent me ancestral data in a .gedcom file which I imported sucessfully into a TMG project with the ultimate intent of merging that project with my main project that I have input quite a bit of information in already. I then read in the Primer for the Master Genealogist that I would probably be better off getting the ancestral information in the Family Tree Maker file rather than gedcom. So I checked with the provider of the ancestral data and was sent the information in .FTW which I also sucessfully imported into a TMG project.
In the TMG project file that was formed by importing the .FTW file, the children of a parent all have "child-bio" tags and when a new son "son-bio tag" is added to a parent and their spouse it shows up in the parent tags as a son-bio tag but not in the "Children" window. I can't understand why they don't show up in the "Children" window.
On the otherhand in the TMG project file that was formed by importing the .gedcom file (presumably from the same ancestral information as for the .FTW file above), the children of the same parent as mentioned above all have "son-bio" and "dau-bio" flags and when a new son (son-bio flag) is added to a parent and spouse it shows up in the parent tags and also in the "Children" window.
Any idea on why the son added to a parent and spouse shows up in the tag area but not the "Children" window for a project formed by a .FTW import? Also is there a way to edit the preferences in the "Childrens" window to show the added son. I'm trying to decide which project I'll use to merge into my main project. Thanks. Sims
