A Guided
Tour of Family Tree SuperTools
Part I: Exploring Family Tree SuperTools
A series
of chapters providing an overview of the product for new or prospective
users.
Chapter 1: Introduction
|
[1.1]
Family
Tree SuperTools is a collection of utilities that provide features
beyond those that are available in your family history project manager.
Family
Tree SuperTools works with data from a wide variety of programs,
including Family Tree Maker, Personal Ancestral
File, The Master Genealogist, and others.
It
does not provide data entry or editing functions, however. That
is, you will continue to enter data in your current program, running
Family Tree SuperTools when you are ready to access its suite of
supplemental utilities.
This
guided tour will demonstrate many of the specific features of Family
Tree SuperTools and the ways in which it will enhance your current
software, offer new insight into your data, improve your research,
and provide exciting new forms of output.

|
[1.2]
Family
Tree SuperTools is a modern 32-bit application designed for Windows
95, 98, NT, 2000, ME, XP and later.
It
supports long file names, right-click menus, mouse wheels, and other
conveniences that are standard to those operating systems.
It
is multi-user compatible and network compatible.

[1.4]
Family
Tree SuperTools will import data directly from your family history
project manager using GenBridge, an exclusive technology
of Wholly Genes Software.
After
starting a new project, simply access the File menu and choose
Import.
An
Import Wizard makes the rest of the process very simple.
|
|
[1.5]
The
Import Wizard guides you through the steps to import your
data.
The
Simple version of the wizard asks just a few questions, like
the type and location of the file to be imported. It otherwise uses
default settings.
The
Advanced version of the wizard offers a wider variety of
options, including detailed control over the interpretation of user-defined
data types.
|
|
[1.6]
When
importing a data set, you can point directly to the native file
used by your family history project manager. A GEDCOM transfer
is not required.
This
eliminates the extra step of creating an intermediate transfer file.
And since the GenBridge technology understands the distinct
characteristics of each data format, it produces the most complete
and accurate transfer of data possible.
Click
here to see a comprehensive list of file formats that are supported
by the Import Wizard.
|
|
[1.7]
After
a data set is imported, subsequent changes to the data can be easily
updated in Family Tree SuperTools by accessing the Data Set Manager
and clicking on the <Refresh> button.
The
Data Set Manager is accessed through the File menu.
