[14.1]
Family
Tree SuperTools is designed to provide a variety of ways to view
your data.
In
a standard configuration, the primary name tag of the focus person
is highlighted on the Person View in dark blue. (In this screen
shot, it is circled in red.)
All
of the other data on the screen is associated with that focus person.
The Children window lists the children of that focus person. The
Siblings window lists the siblings of the focus person.
The
names of people on the screen appear in light blue.
(If
Accents are in use or you have modified
the default colors, then the names may appear in different colors.)
|
|
[14.2]
If
you click on one of the other tabs in that window, then the view
will change but the focus person will remain the same.
In
this example, the Tree View provides a different perspective on
the same Focus Person. Notice that the contents of the other windows
(Children and Siblings) remain unchanged because the focus has not
changed.
The
focus person on the Family and Tree Views are in dark blue by default
and appear slightly recessed or "pushed in."
|
|
[14.3]
If
you double-click on another name, then the focus will change to
that person but the view will remain the same.
The
contents of the other windows will change accordingly.
In
this screen shot, we clicked on a person in the Children window
in order to make him the focus.
|
|
[14.4]
You
can change the focus person and the view at the same
time.
Click
one time on a name in order to highlight it (circled in red in this
screen shot). Then click on the Person tab, for instance,
to change the view while also changing the focus to that highlighted
person.
|
|
[14.5]
On
the resulting Person View, we've clicked once on a marriage event
to highlight it.
Clicking
on Family tab, for instance, would change to the Family View
while also changing the focus to Mabel Agnes Brown (the other person
in the highlighted event).
|
|
[14.6]
You
can also use the Project Explorer to navigate within a project.
Here
we have clicked on the toolbar button (circled in red) to open the
Project Explorer which was then moved to the right side of the screen.
By
default, highlighting a different person in the Project Explorer
will cause the focus to be changed in the other windows.
|
|
[14.7]
The
arrow buttons at the top of the Project Explorer window allow you
to move the focus up or down one line at a time within that
window.
Once
again, as the focus changes, the content of the other windows will
be updated.
|
|
[14.8]
The
Project Explorer can be unlinked from the others, however, using
a right-click menu option. Thereafter, you can navigate the Project
Explorer without affecting the focus in the other windows.
See
an earlier chapter for a more thorough
discussion of the Project Explorer, including its sorting and filtering
features.
|
|
[14.9]
You
can also use the Picklist to Navigate the project. Open the
Picklist by clicking on the binoculars button (circled here in red)
on the toolbar.
|
|
[14.10]
The
Picklist is an alphabetical list of all of the names in the project.
It can be filtered and sorted in various ways. Highlight a name
on the Picklist and click on the OK button in order to change
the focus of the other windows to that person.
See
an earlier chapter for a more thorough
discussion of the Picklist.
|
|
[14.11]
The
Tag Entry Screen (accessed by double clicking on an event
on the Person View) also has a handy navigation option.
When
you right-click on a witness to the event, the resulting menu has
an option to "Change focus to this person."
|
|
[14.12]
If
you make a mistake in navigation, you can click on the Last Viewed
Person button (circled here in red) on the toolbar in order
to return to the previous person.
|
|
[14.13]
You
can also create bookmarks to help you navigate quickly to
specific people that you have designated.
The
easiest way to work with bookmarks is to turn on the Bookmark
Toolbar using the View > Toolbar menu.
|
|
[14.14]
The
Bookmark Toolbar include a button to create a bookmark for
the current focus person.
Another
toolbar button provides access to the Bookmark Manager.
|
|
[14.15]
The
listbox on the Bookmark Toolbar includes the primary name of each
person for whom you have created a bookmark.
Select
a person from the listbox in order to jump directly to that person.
|
|
[14.16]
The
bottom of the View menu displays the most recent navigation
history.
Click
on a name in that list to return the focus to that person.
