  1. Export witnessed events in GEDCOM Export

Thank you for your reply, Terry - While I normally send pdf files for exactly the reasons you mentioned... Like many others, I do occasionally have the need to upload a GEDCOM to a private Ancestry tree for special family collaboration efforts. These TMG witnessed events really would be a fabulous addition. Some day, ;-) To All - THANK YOU. I'll stop jousting this windmill. Debbie
  2. Export witnessed events in GEDCOM Export

Thanks, Jim - I'm sorry that I didn't see this forum discussion when I searched but I was only looking at the v9 forum. My bad!! I agree that GEDCOM has limitations but know that there has to be a workaround somewhere. Many of us are in the same boat when working with relations and friends that use other than my preferred TMG. I for one won't switch but would still like to be able to share more completely than currently possible, Still keeping fingers crossed! Debbie
  3. Export witnessed events in GEDCOM Export

Thanks, Michael - Not good news but at least I'm not missing something that I should have done. I do NOT mind having these 'witnessed' events show up as 'principal' events. So... On to the second part of my question. Is there an external utility similar to Second Site that can create a GEDCOM (5.5) file from a TMG database or focus group that would pull witnessed events as part of the GEDCOM process and export them as primary events? Still keeping my fingers crossed!
  4. Hello all - Am I looking in vain for a solution for this problem? Maybe there is a tag set up step I've missed somewhere because events for a witness are NOT included in the GEDCOM export. For example: In my data entry of a common family Census: Primary: Head of Household and Wife Witnesses: Children, parents, siblings, etc each properly identified with a defined role. The TMG GEDCOM export includes EVENTS for the 2 primary people with no problem. - (No, the ROLE doesn't go to GEDCOM but that's OK) The export does NOT include an EVENT for any of the witnesses. Similarly, this is also the case for other tag types that will almost always have multiple witnesses: Wills, Probate Settlements, Immigration and Emigration, etc. Am I missing something? - OR - Is there an external utility similar to Second Site that can create a GEDCOM file from a TMG database or subset 'focus group' that includes witnessed events in the export? Thanks so much! Debbie
  5. I was hoping that this problem would be addressed in v9, but I still receive the same error messages (and freezing) when I select sources to be output to either endnotes or footnotes to make the ahnentafel or ahnentafel direct line reports much cleaner. The embedded memos, even with parentheses, destroy the clean look of the column output. Does anyone know if this issue has made it to some list for a future enhancement? Thanks so much!! Debbie
  6. TMG 8.04 Update Install Problems

Thanks so much, Virginia. I'd searched the forum but hadn't found this pinned topic. Everything's rosie now.
  7. Is anyone else having problems with 8.04 TMG Update? I was on 8.02 on XP Service Pack 3 when I downloaded and did NOT have the install automatically start after download. Went to the installer update folder and ran the new update application file. After the initial install application verifications, I checked 'agree' which brought me to the Wizard screen. I clicked 'install'. 2 hours later... The setup wizard screen seems to be 'frozen' with only the install and cancel buttons showing. Thanks so much! Debbie
  8. Include [WM] in the Principle Memo sentence

Thanks to you all! Guess it was wishful thinking and I do understand the necessary limitations. I've now resigned to do the double data entry with a hand typed listing on the principal's memo but saving some typing by copying the appropriate 'items purchased' into the appropriate [WM] memo field. On to the data entry!!
  9. Include [WM] in the Principle Memo sentence

Thanks for your reply, Jim - and... I DO have multiple witnesses (more than 20 who purchased property before the cash assets were divided). However, even with just one person in this new role 'asset purchaser', the [WM] for that purchaser doesn't show on the deceased's narrative. I guess I'm really looking for a way to word the coding on the principal's sentence to make it work. Is there some special punctuation I could use to 'link' the [WM] and bring it over?
  10. Hello - I'm attempting to document details about settlement of a probate with 'one time' data entry and have those details show both in the deceased's probate tag and on the corresponding Witness details in this probate. For example: TAG: Probate ROLE: deceased [e.g. John Hough (Haag)] Witness Role: asset purchaser [e.g. John Hough with WM '1 windmill $1.62' and Samuel Hough with [WM] '5 acres of wheat ($4.25 per acre) for $34.00'.] I've added a unisex role 'Asset Purchaser' to my Probate tag with the following sentence structure: [W] purchased personal property during the settlement of the estate of [P1] <and [P2]> <[D]> <[L]>: <[WM]> For eash 'asset purchaser' I've included the description of the asset purchased in the Witness Memo [WM] field. In the Principle's sentence structure, I've modified it to read: The probate of [RF:deceased]'s estate had activity documented on [D] <[L]>. <[M3].> [R:asset purchaser]: [WM] In the report output for 'Individual Narrative' for the deceased results in (an unknown value) appearing where the contents of [WM] should appear: The probate of John's estate had activity documented on 27 Mar 1862 at Montgomery Twp, ASHLAND, OH. Many of the purchasers were family members and other known individuals appearing in this genealogy. John Hough and Samuel Hough: (an unknown value). In the report output for 'Individual Narrative' for the 'asset purchaser' results with the correct value of [WM]: He purchased personal property during the settlement of the estate of John Hough (Haag) on 27 Mar 1862 at Montgomery Twp, ASHLAND, OH: 1 windmill $1.62. and He purchased personal property during the settlement of the estate of John Hough (Haag) on 27 Mar 1862 at Montgomery Twp, ASHLAND, OH: 5 acres of wheat ($4.25 per acre) for $34.00. I've tried almost every variation I can think of in the sentence structure for the 'deceased' but can only get the names of the 'asset purchaser(s)' in the report for the deceased. I have not been able to get the contents of the details in the witness memo [WM] to come acrossed into the report for the deceased. I've also tried many variations from the 'memo' tab in the Individual Narrative report options. Hope this makes sense and really hope that another set of eyes can help. Thank you so much!! Debbie
  11. Backup problems

I had the very same problem which now has mysteriously resolved itself. However, I still have jpg, bmp, gif, pdf, xls and doc files still included in my exhibits. The only thing I did differently before getting a fully successful FULL backup, was: 1 - Removed all exhibits for the first 33 folks in my database (to a safe location) 2 - Validated file integrity (which correctly showed the missing exhibits) 3 - Reindexed 4 - Optimized 5 - Backup again (without the subset of removed exhibits) BACKUP Successful. 6 - Moved the relocated exhibits back to the correct folder 7 - Validated file integrity (which correctly showed NO missing exhibits) 8- Reindexed 9 - Optimized 10 - Backup again (without the subset of removed exhibits) BACKUP Successful. WHEW!!! Don't know if this will apply to your project, but my problems seem to have started when the FULL BACKUP got to be over 1 GB.
  12. Backup - TMG Closes before Backup Completed

UPDATE - After almost one week with this problem, I was FINALLY able to backup all program files, customizations, database INCLUDING 4108 EXHIBITS without any problems. Still don't have a clue about what could have caused the problem. Will post again if problem reoccurs. Thanks! Debbie Mysteriously resolution. 13. Backup - TMG Closes before Backup Completed

UPDATE: I was finally able to back up all pieces of the project EXCEPT exhibits without getting an error. Subsequently removed (temporarily) all exhibits added since upgrading from 7.03 to 7.04. Again was able to backup successfully. However, the 352 removed exhibits were not included. I'm now adding each 'post 7.04' exhibit back individually (or in very small batches) and backing up with each new addition. I am frequently getting the error message: Program Error - OLE exception error: Exception Cde c00000fd. OLE object may be currupt. What I seem to be finding is that some sort of compression created in my 'photo' software when I save a file as 'gray scale'. I haven't changed or upgraded either of mt photo editing software programs (PhotoImpact and Roxio Creator Pro 2010 PhotoSuite) In 7.04: Was something changed about the reading of exhibit files during backup that could be causing these OLE errors? I am heavily into documentation and use exhibits extensively. Thanks in advance! Debbie
  14. I'm running TMG 7.04 on Windows XP SP3 and am a long-time TMG user. Yesterday, I kept receiving 'OLE exception error: Exception code c00000fd. OLE object may be corrupt' when attempting to backup my primary database. I completed all of the 'maintenance' activities without any errors being noted on the 'Last VFI' file. Contacted Tech Support over the phone and was advised to download the installation file from whollygenes and reinstall over the existing installation. DONE - Same error even after running all maintenance routines once again (no errors). Tech Support had advised me to remove TMG from my pc and reinstall 'fresh' if the 1st step didn't work. I copied of my project files and exhibit files, etc over to a safe location on another drive before removing the application and reinstalling. Removed TMG, restarted pc, reinstalled TMG, and restarted pc. Copied the 'saved' files to the appropriate locations, reindexed and optimized, refreshed all thumbnails, and validated file integrity once again (no errors). Attempted to backup my master database. No OLE error BUT the application closed automatically as soon as the first part of the project database were backed up. I then attempted to backup the Sample database - NO PROBLEM. Can anyone offer any advice about the next steps I should attempt? Other than backup, the application appears to be working fine BUT backup is absolutely critical. Thanks in advance! Debbie
