I don't have any experience with Crossover 8, but Snow Leopard, TMG7 and VMWare Fusion all work just fine-what sort of problems are you having? Perhaps then we can narrow down if it is SL, CW8 or TMG7.
-
Don't forget that some of us Mac users also use VMWare Fusion, so searching for both Parallels and Fusion will give you results from the majority of the Mac users.

But I can't import a picture to the image box. Is there any way to do this? Not directly to that image box. You have to go to the exhibit log and add that image there, making sure as Jim said to make it the primary one for the person.

God, I was hoping for a newer GUI on this sad old program. It looks like v6.The app. "look" needs a revamp -- Web 2.0 style IMHO.
You state that you would prefer the program to look like Web 2.0 style-but this is not a web interfaced program. Many of us are quite happy with this. If you look around at the major genealogy programs, none of them has a Web 2.0 style either.
What do you find so offensive about the GUI?

Well I'll be !*$#*!-it works just fine now. Only difference is that I reformatted my hard drive over the weekend.
Hmmmm.....

Can anyone else verify this? Has it already been reported?

When going into the layout manager after upgrading to version 7, I decided a couple of my layouts were not being used, and I wished to delete them. Doing so causes the project to "fail" (I tried to attach a screen shot, but it isn't sticking).
I am using version 7 on a Windows Vista Home Premium machine-however, I was able to replicate this on my laptop which has XP installed.
Here are the steps I took:
Open layout manager
Choose a layout to delete
Delete a layout
Click close to shut the layout manager window
When prompted to save current layout-answer "no"
The project then "disappears"-toolbar intact, project showing open, but all windows are gone
Have to close project and reopen to be able to work again
Is this a known bug?

Thanks Terry for taking a look at it-it works like a charm now!

Terry,
I get the exact same message as Mike...attached is a screen shot of the error, showing that I am logged in.

Forgot to ask if any is designated as primary-that will make a difference too.

Maureen,
What format are they in?

Is it somehow tied to the roles? I can't replicate it when I create the role names you have, but I noticed in your screen shots that the roles are incorrect for the principal and the witness on their respective person views. Elizabeth Unknownsurname Graham has WITNESS as her role, when in your previous screen shot, you clearly have her as the EXECUTOR.
Could it also possibly be a language flip by the program? One where you don't have WillWriterPLDM and Executor set up as roles? Just thinking through the possibilities here...

I too get the beeps when using the up/down arrow keys. It doesn't matter what screen I am in. For example, when on the person view, if I go up or down the tags, the beep is there. I have all beeps and in fact, all sounds turned off in my windows vista preferences, but I still get them in TMG.

Thanks for that Robin, I have taken a look at this and I can see your point. It will certainly retain the flexibility as I have entries from UK, US, India and Austrailia. The global approach would be better.Kevin,
You might want to check out this topic that both Robin and myself commented on late last year. The debate was the US version vs the UK version, and I commented that I run a hybrid version which combines the best of both worlds. The topic can be found here:

Let us know if this helps with what you want to be able to do.

I cannot seem to find any tips on images. Do they need to be sized for using in the program or do you use your original photos and resize later?Sherry
I use my originals as they are for TMG. However, for output to the web via Second Site, I have a secondary folder with scaled down versions of them.
One possible "problem" (not so much a problem, as a nuissance) is that if you use your photos as is, when running a report and including the photos, it may take a while to build the report due to the size of the photo files. Of course, all that varies depending on how you save your original photos in the first place.

Here's my current layout, using the FG for my anscestors, and the PE open and of course, my huge custom toolbar. What does yours look like? Here's the one I use most often, of course, I have others depending on whether I am working with exhibits or Quaker record entry too.
-
Utilizing Quaker dates, especially those before 1752 can become quite annoying when recording any event, as TMG doesn't identify those dates as anything other than irregular. For myself, I would like to maintain the integrity of the original data by recording it as found, since there is too much room for error when inputting events prior to 1752 into a database.
Ideally, what I would love to see is it accepting these at face value such as 7d 5mo 1711, rather than having to click on "ok" each and every time I am working with Quaker records.
If that isn't feasible, I would be willing to settle for a dating option, such as we have now with Regnal dates, but again, the whole idea is to maintain the dates in their original format
Just wishing....
I failed to mention that one of my gripes about inputting them as irregular dates is that TMG fails to recognize them on the person view (at the top with the date ranges) and incorrectly identifies either a birth, death or both as being <?>, which isn't correct.

Great suggestion, Teresa, I'd really love to see it too!

Have you used the macro setting on the camera? This usually works best for "up close" photos.
I've not had much luck with using a digital camera, but I haven't spent a lot of time trying to make it work, either! -
Have you considered IMatch (www.photools.com) or BreezeBrowser (www.breezesys.com)?
Ideally, I want to be in TMG, attach an exhibit to an event, and have TMG know some basic info about the image - such as the date and caption/title. It seems ridiculous that I should have to reenter this info!I want to use a photo organizer to enter data about my images that will x-over and be seen/recognized in other applications....
It seems as if you've been using almost all of the programs that I've listed above....
Do you have a recommendation?
Thank you most sincerely!

I too would LOVE to be able to have more than 10...20 would be a good number. 10 isn't enough if you start jumping back and forth between siblings, etc. and then want to get back to the main people you were focused on.

ok, that obviously didn't work...
