  1. Windows Vista

    TMG Gold UK v7.04.000

It has been 3 months isnce I last did a backup in TMG and it now appears to be failing when tryimng to create a new backup file, with the following message:

Input file read failure - This error occurs when a file read operation is performed on a ZIP file that is locked or restricted by another process

There is no other info about which file is the issue and I am getting this issue even if only TMG appears to be running. Any ideas why this has started happening?

  2. I know this is possibly the wrong forum but I could not find an appropriate forum.

I have downloaded the gensmarts trial program and am trialling it now. This seems to be a little out-of-date regarding the sites (eg 1837Online which was renamed some time ago).

Also, it is very US based e.g. Ancestry.com when I use Ancestry.co.uk - I know that seems minor but it is a better site for me because of the different search options for English BMD info.

If I buy this software, is it the same or is it much more up-to-date and can be tailored to UK sites?

    Cheers

  3. Otherwise, you need to slog through the data and fix it. The way to do this is to work from the Master Place List. Select an place with the problem and cllick the [Events] button to open a list of the events using the data. You can then edit every event from that screen... one-by-one unfortunately.

Thanks for that. Just one strange thing I have noticed with this though. The Master Place Names list is displaying some such occupations in the place name fields on this list even though I changed them yesterday. In fact, when I press Events, there are none, and I have confirmed by finding the person manually that the text has been moved out of place names into Memo (chose a unique occupation to prove this).

The list appears to hold historical info that is no longer in Place Names. Any ideas how to refresh this?

  4. In changing to use TMG7 (UK edition), I imported my FTM gedcom file into TMG. This was some time ago and appeared fine. However, I have discovered that Occupations were placed in the Town and Country fields in the Occupation tag.

I have literally thousands of these tags. Is there a means of moving these into the Memo field automatically rather than do it manually? I do not have any Occupation tags with real place names entered and just have a handful that are recorded correctly (occupation in the Memo field with the place names empty), either because they are new to my file or I noticed them and fixed them.

  5. I thought I would download the 30 day trial and give this software a go.

Unfortunately, every time I have tried to run the install, it gets stuck when trying to copy the following file:

    c:\windows\fonts\foxfont.fon

The installation just hangs at this point. Eventually, I have to end the task.

My laptop is Windows XP. I have attached a screen print of how far the install gets. At this point, it is not responding

I am not aware of any problems on my laptop and wondered if anyone else had had a similar problem?

    Cheers
