Hi,
I am running Windows 7, 64 bit and TMG v8.03
I have created a chart in VCF which has a file size of 1.82 mb. I have saved this to my desktop and am trying to export it to a jpeg image.
The Export Image box pops and is then overlayed with the Jpeg Image Settings box which displays Quality 95 & Smoothing 0. The Generating Image message appears at the bottom of the screen.
When I click the OK button on the Jpeg Image Settings I immediately get the error "Visual Chartform has stopped running" - I have waited up to 25 minutes before closing the error box which then crashes VCF. The details are as below (I have generated smaller jpegs with no problem):
Problem signature:

It shows in the dwindling numbers of users, too.An interesting comment. Would you care to share the actual statistics and sources to support this?

Hi Anne,
There may be something in this thread worth trying:
-
What you say is correct. However it does not change the validity of the statement from Bob Velke that 'TMG v7 is designed for Vista, XP and Windows 2000.'
And not everyone feels the need (or possibly can afford) to constantly upgrade. If a person is happy to use an earlier version of a product because it meets their needs, and they are willing to accept a possible lack of support from a developer, they are free to make that choice.

Gremlins!!!
Orrible little creatures they are.

Hi Siobhan,
I am using XP and just created a new layout. I exited TMG and re-opened. The layout Iwas in was the newly created one.
I then followed your steps to delete it:
Open layout manager
Modify an existing layout (chose my new one)
Delete
Delete the XXX layout?
Yes
Close
Would you like to save the current layout?
No
Project refreshed and re-opened instantaneously using the layout I had last opened prior to the new one.

However "preachy" this post may appear, it is quite apparent that many users are quilty of failing to "Read the Manual"Were they to do so, they would read that "TMG V7 IS NATIVE TO THE MISCROSOFT VISTA OS", using any other OS version may and has caused a miriad of install issues as posted here. !
As Terry says, TMG v7 is designed for Vista, XP and Windows 2000.
See this thread from Bob Velke announcing the release - particularly the comment 'The Master Genealogist v7.0 is native to Windows Vista but is also designed for Windows 2000 or XP.'

I downloaded v7 yesterday and have worked with it a few hours now and so far really love the new features. But I've run into a couple things that are exceedingly annoying. The other bug is a new one for v7. In the Tag Entry window when I clicked on "Repeat Last Citation" for the very first time it worked just fine, the citation and citation detail appeared almost immediately in the window. But since that time when I click on this button nothing appears in the Citation window. I have to click OK and then reopen the window to see the citation. This is quite annoying as frequently when I want to repeat the previous citation I also have to revise the Citation Detail.
Has anyone else run into these problems?
Bob
I have experienced this also. For me it only occurs if I have entered multiple (different) citations. This seems to confuse the system so that when I click on 'Repeat last citation' the number of citations increases however I have to click on 'OK' and then go back in to see them.

Hi Marion,
The document you refer to relates to TMG v6.12 not TMG v7.0.
The steps described by Jim may no longer apply.

Hi Bob,
Just tried it with the sample project and it worked fine - though I searched for a source to use.
In my own data base I was in Person View. Selected an event. The Reminder window opened, I clicked on citation, clicked on the "Add a citation sign', The reminder window closed, TYPED in the number of my source, Clicked on OK, a second reminder window popped (Reminder - Source type "Book (Authored), the warning window has also popped but is behind other windows. I can get to it by dragging other windows but all windows are now inactive.
I just tried again but this time I Selected an event. The Reminder window opened, I clicked on citation, clicked on the "Add a citation sign', The reminder window closed, clicked on the "Binoculars", scrolled through the Master Source List to the same source, Selected it. All worked as it should.
I also tried using the "Repeat Last Citation" and that worked. It did not pop a Warning Window". However, I would expect that to be the case.
It seems that the problem arises when the Source number is typed in rather than searched.
Hope this all makes sense.

In Preferences I had the warnings set to "Warn when citation has no sureties". When I added my citation without sureties the warning popped however I was unable to then "Accept" or "Cancel'. I was also unable to cancel the citation entry. TMG had locked and I had the use Task Manager to get out.
Turning off the warning allowed the citation to be added.

One way of doing it is:
When you have the child on the screen select F4 on the keyboard. Scroll down the list on the 'Tag Type List' and select Mother-Bio (you can get there faster by typing 'MO" fairly rapidly. Click on select. if you know the number of the mother on your data base type this in where it says Parent. If not, click on the binoculars where it says Parent and search for the mother and select her. Click on OK.
You can do similar if you are on the mothers screen.

In any case, I support the idea that TMG should make it easier to look at and report Family History, as opposed to strictly genealogy. Including ways to properly report adoptions, half and step siblings, etc. would, I think, be a useful improvement to TMG.Pierce
I agree Pierce.
Whilst not everyone may wish to have this information included I would be happy to see it as one of the optional fields to include when generating reports

If you go into TMG/File/Preferences there are a number of options for changing font size. e.g. under Data Entry, Project explorer and Lists.

I hear there is a TMG v7 is the offing. Let's hope they give us (at an upgrade price of course) some useful things like the reports we've mentioned here, and not just bells and whistles.Hi Pete,
In my experience TMG have always given a fair upgrade price and I would be surprised if that was to change.
Nor have they released new versions just for the sake of doing so. I do not know if there is an intention to change the reports however I am confident that any changes will include useful functionality in addition to some "bells and whistles".
-
I agree Mike,
I find it very frustrating at times.

You're so right about the numbers getting all messed up if you try to delete people. The "redundant" ancestor handling feature in printed reports is really important!
You can add my vote for getting the "redundant" option included.
TMG9 a Huge Disappointment

Totally agree. Do not trust having it out of my control and in the hands of an organisation which may or may not be here in 6 months time.
