  1. What report type?

I was trying an individual narrative, but this question applies to any of the reports that show exhibits attached to persons, as per the help menu.

It sounds to me like some of the exhibits are linked to events.

As I stated, the exhibits are not linked to events. They are linked to persons. To confirm this, I sorted for events in the exhibit view, and the event exhibits appeared, but when I sorted for a person, the event exhibits did not appear. However, the person exhibits did. This would imply that the links were to the person, not the events. That's what doesn't make any sense to me. It really does seem that the exhibits are attached to events (because they only appear on the report if click the box to include event exhibits), but the exhibit view is undeniably clear that the exhibits in question are not seen by the program as event exhibits. My suspicion is that this has something to do with the how the exhibits are imported from FTM 2009. What you're saying (that it seems like the exhibits are attached to events) is perfectly logical, but it simply isn't what the program was telling me.

If you want all person exhibits, you select 'For each person, include' / 'All images'.

As I stated, I did this.

And do not select 'Include event exhibits' if you don't want event exhibits.

    Yes. Did this.

In a narrative report, all of the person exhibits will appear before the subject's section.

Event exhibits are output as part of the sentence for the event.

    Yes, understood.

I want to thank you for taking the time to reply. I understand that this forum is made up of volunteers. I purchased this program for one feature: the ability to import from FTM 2009 and publish html reports which include multiple exhibits linked to individuals. I have determined that it cannot do this. I created a test file, inside of TMG, which worked flawlessly, so I know that the problem is not a matter of my not understanding how to do it. I believe there is something borked about the import from FTM 2009. I came back to reply on this forum to make this known to the developers and other users. Please don't read this post as a grumpy "I'm leaving!" I just wanted to pass on the info. Maybe I'll check back in a few months and see if it's been fixed.

    Thanks.

  2. I've scoured help, faqs and forums. I want to display multiple exhibits attached to a person and have them appear on reports. The only way I have gotten them to appear is to choose to show all variations of event tags, which doesn't make any sense anyway, because the exhibits aren't attached to events. They're attached to the person. This "show all variations" option would be fine, except that it ruins the narrative (I end up with 14 "He lived at..."). What am I doing wrong?

p.s. I have "all images" checked under "for each person include"

  3. I see there is another thread in which the poster says the program hangs during import from FTM 2009. I'm starting a new thread because my issue is slightly different. After completing the import, the program freezes at the option to choose "locked" or "unlocked." File size does not seem to be an issue, as I tried a file with only three individuals, and the problem occurred. It has manifested in several, slightly different ways:

    1. Program freezes just as the lock/unlock pop-up appears, preventing me from choosing either, but I can still close the program, and it appears to back up normally.

    2. Program freezes just after I click "unlock." After close/reopen everything seems normal.

    3. Program freezes as I click on "unlock." After close/reopen the file is locked.

    Dell Latitude D820

    Intel core 2 CPU

    T7200 @ 2.00 GHz

997 MHz, 0.99 GB of RAM

    Windows XP, latest service packs/updates

    EDIT:

This may be related to whether I choose "yes" or "no" to look at the listing file. I just chose "no" and the program didn't freeze.

  4. Edit:

My apologies for creating two threads on the same topic. I thought I had this solved, and that the other thread was a seperate issue, but now I think it's the same thing. The other thread (about reporting multiple images) explains the problem better. As far as I can tell, the problem is not missing images. This thread is best deleted, if possible.

  5. My hope to is use FTM to input data and media, and then use TMG to import this file from FTM when I want to use the publishing features. So, I intent to make this the work flow I will repeat. FTM is simple and fast for me, and I don't need the flexibility TMG provides for data entry. However, FTM is essentially crippled when it comes to publishing, whereas TMG provides the flexibility I need. (So that's my rationale for this workflow). So, my intention is to re-import, into TMG from FTM whenever I want to update my webpage.

    My question is this:

I don't seem to have any problem importing the data and the media..."exhibits" I guess they are called. Here's the odd thing I can't figure out. Take Ancestor X. When I look at his "details" window I see that the his WW1 draft card was succesfully imported as a tag type "other." The word other has an asterisk. When I open the exhibit log and focus "all exhibits", "all types," there is the image of the draft card. However, when I focus "a person," and filter "Ancestor X," no draft card image appears. When I attempt to produce reports, check the "show primary" box and "imbed" exhibits, no exhibit appears in the report. All this leads me to believe that the image of the draft card and the event were both imported, but the link between the two was not preserved.

Am I doing something obviously wrong? Or should I not expect to be able to import from FTM with all the links intact? I have fiddled with internal/external images in FTM, and tinkered with where TMG should look if it can't find a file. But, I'm confused and it would help if someone could set me straight.

Apologies in advance if I have not used the proper terminology. I've only been working with the program for a few hours.
