Personally I don't combine addresses for that very reason. Plus, when dealing with cities that renumbered thier addresses what looks like two houses may be one and vica versa; and don't even get me started about try to track addresses in a major city where virtully everyone lived in appartmnets but few records seem to list this fact. I do tend to combine occupations, but I'm always sceptical, and generally keep the surrieties on such statements low. I know I'm still running a risk her but reporting the same occupation three times in a ten year period was way to repetative of a nartive. I guess there's always a trade off there, between readabilitiy and not accedentally implying something as more cirtian than it actually is. Alison

I think I've gone role crazy as I've learnned TMG, but I've created a role for approximapte range in the occupation tag. [P] was [M1] from about [D] to at least [M2]. It gets rid of the repetative nature, but still records the informtion from the census, draft records, misc. naturalization papers etc.

I have a felling what I want can't be done without editing the resulting report, but I thought I would ask anyway. I'm looking for a report that would use the sentences I've created but still show a family, similar to a family group sheet. The Journal report looks great, and certainly coverers this aspect. The one thing I'm wondering is can I have it include the spouse events for the primary person but not for their children since they have thier own report(see putline blow)? If not here is there any other type of report that will accomplish this? sample outline: Generation One 1. John Smith's events John Smith's wife's events i. Henry Smith events, inclues married Jane doe but not her events. Generation two repeat with Henry and Jane Edit: I just relized what I want is shown on the sample reports site for the "Spouse Events" journal report. How do you supprese the childrens events like that? Is it the number of generations, or some other option I'm missing? Alison

So if I'm understandig this right then if I run the report for multiple generations then I should get what I want. Is this correct? If so, is there a way to force a page break between generations? I know it sounds strange, but it fits better in my temprary reserch files this way.

This would be very nice. The FGS are often difficult to use a result of not printing sentances, and including the memos doesn't work well if you use split memos for the sentance structure you want.

I can't speak for anyone but myself on ths issue, but personally I only add the external exhibit to the census tag I enter after finding the page. For me I wanted an easy way to see the exhibit from the person view and this seemed the best way since i pretty much sit on the fence as to wether the census is an event or a source. If you do want to attach the files I found if I download the tiff files from Haritage Quest, they can be entered as imaged in tmg and they are smaller then the pdf files for the same quality, at least on my monitor.

Is there a way to force TMG to use relative paths for exhibits? I regularly open and edit my database on my laptop even though it is still residing on my desktop (though a local network) but if I add any exhibits on the laptop it saves the network path so they are broken on the desktop, and of coarse the reverse is also true. I tired setting the exhibits path to "..\images" (the projects are all in a projects folder in the same over arching place) but it seems to have no effect. Is there a way to do this?

I've been strugeling with getting the citation right for the english census. I know that the registrtion district and sub-registration district are not part of the location (I'm thinking of this more like the address of the family) but they seem like they should be part of the citation since that is how the census was organized. How have others dealt with this? Does something like, "1891 U.K. Census, gateshead, RG12/4900/23/5, Smith hosehold" seem appropriate?

Thank you both, since I already had my US census set up with split CD's I decided to do the same here and use a mixture of both methods. That way the full citation reads compleate with registration district and parishes, largely to help me search out more records, and the short citation is just enough to find it again. I know that's not quite the idea between the two, but at least for the moment it seems the best to me. Plus it is easy enough to keep imformation from printing in the citations in the future and much harder to go the other way.

I have the US edition of TMG 6.08 and have a fair number of english ancestors which means a fair number of english census records and place names. I don't feel that its enough to create a hybrid version so I would like to just create new place styles and tags, if needed, in the US version. Unfortunately, having just decided to switch to TMG I have little ideas of how to go about this. I would love some suggestions or web-sites to look at.
