  1. I've about had it with TMG v7

My Vista 64bit PC that I bought several months ago crashes periodically too. I haven't had it happen in TMG yet. I think it's just a cooincidence that it happens when you are in TMG.
  2. if the project explorer sort is set to Given name,..... then when you select a letter from the easy search tool bar, you will be positioned at the first given name that begins with that letter. Sheila Altenbernd
  3. Sentence for Mason's

Another option would be to create multiple roles within the association tag. The Mason Role could be set up as [R:Mason] was a Mason <[D]><[M2]><[L]>.< [M3]> You get the same resulting sentence that Michael showed without having to specify "a mason" in the memo field. Sheila Altenbernd
  4. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancest...om/~altenbernd/ Major Surnames - Akers, Altenbernd, Atkinson, Braun, Dudley, Herrell, Miller, Reeder, Reidy, Stoerker The site wouldn't have been possible without TMG and Second Site
  5. Multiple Copy Tags

Terry, I agree 100%. Using Second Site is an excellent tool for sharing your data. It can be done either publicly online or privately on a CD. Sheila Altenbernd
  6. Exhibits linked to events

Thanks Jim for providing an explanation of how the underlying structure works. As a programmer myself, I understand things that appear simple can actually be quite complicated to implement. I've also discovered that the more features you provide, the more people want. :-) Sheila Altenbernd
  7. Exhibits linked to events

I too wish that an exhibit linked to an event could be set as the primary exhibit for the person I am currently viewing. I find myself on many occassions adding an exhibit twice so that I can have it linked to the appropriate event and also use it as the primary image for that person. (I think this is what jrw was asking for.) I also understand that the underlying data structure and processing make this more complex to implement than it sounds. Can this be added as a wish list item for a future release? Sheila Altenbernd
  8. Optimize Question

I've recently noticed that optimize is freeing up space when I don't think it should be. I run optimize, which frees up some space. This is expected. Then I run VFI and find no errors. I run optimize again and free up some space. I run it again and the difference is 0. I run VFI again with no errors. Run Optimize and the difference is 110, 671 bytes. I can keep toggling between the VFI and the optimize. The optimize difference is 110,671 each time. Is it normal for VFI to do something that would release some space even though it didn't identify any errors? Is this cause for concern? I haven't noticed any other problems, but I don't want to ignore this and then discover I have something corrupted in my database. Thanks, Sheila Altenbernd
  9. Optimize Question

I was basing that on the before and after figures. Thanks for explaining that VFI is "fattening" and that what I am seeing is normal.
  10. Wish List - Prepositions "in" and "a"

My work around was to create a preposition place style. I use L10 (i think, I'm not at my home computer) to store the preposition I want. In reports and in Second Site, I suppress the generation of the preposition. The potential down side (and I don't have a problem with it), is that the preposition becomes part of the place name. Your place links in Second Site for instance will include the at and in. The advantage is that it is very easy to make things read the way you want. Sheila Altenbernd
  11. I set up two different roles. One for the singular son and one for the plural sons. That way I can make the sentence read correctly for each without having to make a custom sentence. [RF:son] was listed as a son in [R:Head of Family]'s household on the 1930 Census <[L]>. <[M3].> [RF:sons] were listed as sons in [R:Head of Family]'s household on the 1930 Census <[L]>. <[M3].> Sheila Altenbernd
  12. An exhibit can be linked to a tag and that tag linked to multiple individuals. I have a photo tag I use for this purpose. Sheila Altenbernd
  13. Baptism/Marriage/Burial events

I use a preposition place style. L10 becomes my preposition. I place in it whatever preposition I want for this sentence. Then I also set Second Site (which is my primary output source) to not use a prepositon. <[L10]> <[City],> <[County],> <[state],><[Country]> The only downside (and I don't really see it as a downside) is that the preposition becomes part of the location. Sheila Altenbernd
  14. Family reunions

I created a custom Family Reunion Tag from the Miscellaneous Group. I don't have access to TMG at the moment, so I can't give you the exact tag, but I have something similar to the following [R:Attendee] attended the [M2] family reunion [D] [L]. <[M3]> [R:Organizer] organized the [M2] family reunion [D][L]. <[M3]> I attach a couple of pictures to the tag. I agree that this does provide useful information about whether the person was still alive or not at the time. It also places them at a geographic location on a specific date. Sheila Altenbernd
  15. I too would like to see "All Exhibits" include those that the person is a witness too. Or at least an option to include them. Sheila Altenbernd
  16. Exhibit - many persons in one image

One other thing. If you intend to use Second Site to eventually display these photos, you should check out the Image Mapping you can do with John Cardinal's utility. You can insert captions and links to each person in the photo. It's pretty neat.
  17. Exhibit - many persons in one image

I have created an image tag. I attach the photo to it and then attach everyone in it to the tag.
  18. Extended family timeline

Part of what you want to do can be done with witnesses. For instance at Sister1's daughters baptism, you would add Brother1 as the Godfather to the baptism event. This event will now show for both families. In an education event you could list the elementary school the kids attended and list who from each family was attended that year or range of years.
