  1. RE: TMG to be discontinued

Yes and let's not give up. From my point of view, it's imperative that this product is not allowed to become part of the history we are recording. Surely such a top rated product needs to extend beyond the life of anyone. This product is a monument to the man who created it. It needs to be sold to someone who can continue the program. Alternative maybe the users could form a co-operative or something and employ developers? Look forward to positive outcomes of the future. Wal
  2. The Discontinuation Of TMG

This discussion is very disappointing and defeatest. Why are we giving up so quickly! From my point of view, it's imperative that this product is not allowed to become part of the history we are recording. Surely such a top rated product needs to extend beyond the life of anyone. 3. I'd have to agree. It's imperative that this product is not allowed to become part of the history we are recording. Bob, please look into this avenue. Surely such a top rated product needs to extend beyond the life of anyone. This product is a monument to the man who created it. Alternative maybe the users could form a co-operative or something and employ deveopers? Look forward to positive outcomes of the future. Wal
  4. OLE error code 0x80040154

Solved- I first ran a program called Revo Uninstaller which also deletes any remnant files and registry entries after running the TMG unistaller. Then deleted the cdintf400.dll file. Then searched and deleted all the remaining "The Master Genealogist v8" registry entries. And finally the install of the setup program worked with all problems solved. Why is it these uninstall programs never seem to remove everything, including files and registry entries. One shouldn't have to know how to get into the registry or do other deletions. Wal
  5. Upgrading from 8.02 to 8.04 UK edition. Check for update didn't work so followed advice in http://www.whollygenes.com/forums201/index.php?showtopic=14634 After a few retries it loaded up and I can load the sample project. I cannot open another project which produces the following errors:- "OLE error code 0x80040154: Class not registered. 72 GETFILEX" Ignore then "Object LOFORM is not found. 73 GETFILEX" Several times until "You must specify the name of the project" Cannot Backup sample project - same error Cannot create any reports before and after following advice here:- http://www.whollygenes.com/forums201/index.php?showtopic=14260 I've followed the advice given for these issues without success. Trying to run ver 8.04 UK on Windows 7 home premium 64 bit What next? Thanks Wal
  6. Updating 8.02 to 8.04 stalled and timed out. Next time I tried to update it reported wrong file size and wouln't update. Is there a way to manually update. 8.02 still seems to work okay. Thanks Wal
  7. Is that all it does. Oh, what a shame. Firstly that it doesn't come up as indicated and secondly as you can't do a "global" change. I should have read it more closely where it says "global check" Okay thanks for that, much appreciated. Can I trouble you or some kind soul out there, or maybe it's just for the wish list, is there a way or moving a whole "column" of data in the Master Place List into the another column? As to the chart, for some reason after several attemps at importing and creating a descendent chart (vcf) which had blank place fields, it finally worked, even though the imported place details were in the same wrong field in TMG. I have know idea what I did different if anything. (computers are like spouses - both kinds - you just have to treat them right ) Wal
  8. Hello Group, I've imported a Family Tree Maker file (FTW) okay, but the all the towns have been put in the Country Column etc. According to the help file: "When you are doing an import from GEDCOM, Legacy or Family Tree Maker, one of the options is Realign Place Names. You will select this option if you want to make a global check near the end of the import process to ensure that the elements of each place name appear in the proper place fields". This option does not come up at anytime during import and I can't find it anywhere on the menus. I promised to print out a chart for a reunion this weekend but can't seem to get the descendant chart to pick up these odd fields. I'm using the UK version 6.09. Any suggestions Wal - Down Under
  9. Maybe I've forgotten or haven't tried to edit that way before and haven't noticed it. Thanks for bringing me back to earth. Wal Down Under
  10. Last time I edited a son-bio or dau-bio tag in I think ver 6.05 everything was fine and normal edit screen appeared. Since updating through to now 6.07 editing these tags brings up a "father-bio" edit box with no dates or places fields and only blank memo and citation fields. All other tags edit okay and are as before. Anyone know what's happening here? Wal Hunter Valley Down under
