  2. Searching TMG for people by place

Filter the Project Explorer, Pick List, of List of People Report for Any Event State (or City or County) Contains (what you are searching for) END You could make a filter for for each, State, City, County .... put [?] in the value you are searching for, save the filter and you will be asked for the value each time the filter is run...

  4. Where's that source used?

You want to find out where the source was "cited" therefore you need the List of Citations Report... Use a filter of Source no. Equals [?] and enter the source number you want when you run the report...
  5. Journal Report

You are correct that the sentences imported from UFT do not have the parent statement as UFT added it automatically and did not depend on a parameter. Also the sentences imported from UFT will have roles of Bride and Groom. If you edit the marriage tag in the Master Tag List and add the <[PARO]> parameter at the appropriate place in the sentences for Bride and Groom this will all the parent statement to all that are using the default sentence for Bride and Groom. If there are any Bride and Groom sentences that have been modified at the local tag level they will not be changed and they will have to be located and changed manually. This can be done with filter on one of the list reports. If you need details on how, let me know...
  6. Reinstalling TMG

Download the current Demo version from the TMG web site...it is the latest version which is 6.12. You will need your serial number for the 6.x version that you purchased to unlock it.. If you look under Help>About TMG you will see the name, email, and serial number for the version you are using. If that is not available you will have to contact TMG Customer Support.
  7. "BIO" Tag - Does it Exist?

Those of us who imported from UFT had the tag created automatically. It is where the text attached to an individual was imported and is exactly as you describe. I use it as you describe using very few standard tags or custom tags in creating my narratives...
  8. Exhibits

The exhibit has to be attached to the individual and not to a tag in order to be made Primary. If attached to an individual you will see a box to check under Properties, General tab...
  9. Add new person dialog bug

If you click the 'add person' icon or the 'Add Person' on the menu item you are going to get the "Add Person Type" window. In that window if you select "Unrelated" you will get the window to select the sex. Any of the other sections will open the "Add Person" window with the correct sex selected.

  12. Backup and Restore

From the Help file under "Backup" To use the Backup Wizard: From the File menu, select Backup. The Backup Wizard will appear. Step 1: Backup Type 1.. There are three default types of backups: · BACKUP ALL (includes both project data and customizations) · BACKUP CUSTOMIZATIONS (only the customizations) · BACKUP PROJECT (only the project) If a user has created additional configurations, they will also be available for selection. Highlight the configuration you want. 2. You also have three choices as to how you want to use the highlighted backup type: · use without saving changes (Any changes you make in the subsequent steps will be used only for this backup, and will not be saved.) · overwrite current configuration (Used only for customized backup types; default configurations cannot be overwritten.) · save as new configuration (If you choose this option, type a name for the new backup type. You can also enter a description if you wish.) 3. Click [Next] to proceed. Wholly Genes, Inc.
  13. Siblings

You have to have at least one parent to add a sibling. Most just add a father...you can be pretty sure of the surname for the father from the surname of the siblings. Add a father as (Unknown) Smith if surname is Smith. Use whatever you like to use for unknown names for the unknown given name.
  14. Pedigree Chart - PDF Only?

It's the only format available for the Pedigree Chart...
  15. No...one of the features that has been requested in the past along with a "double block quote", indent both left and right margins...
  16. It's a personal preference and you will probably get several answers...just be sure to pick one method and stick to it...what I've used for years.... Unknown Surname GivenName ? Unknown ? If the unknown is a the spouse of someone I add in the Suffix field -(w-o John Jones), w-o = wife of, the "-" exclusion marker to keep it from printing but permits it to appear in the Project Explorer and Pick List. I have instances where I leave the surname blank as in early medieval times when surnames were not used...I suppress the printing of (--?--) in reports so it doesn't appear when the surname is blank. Just my method...others will have theirs...
  17. Reports - Controlling page margins?

If you are printing to a word processor and then changing the margins in the word processor when you generate the index it will be correct. If you have generated the index before changing the margins, regenerate it after changing the margins. TMG does not generate the index when sending to a word processor but rather marks the entries so the word processor can generate the index. Within TMG you can set the left/right margins to be .5 or 1 inch. In the report definition, under Print to: change to Printer to activate the Properties button, click on Properties and change the margins. .5 and 1.0 are the only options available for left/right margins, top/bottom margins can only be .5. Close the Properties, reset your Print to: to file for the word processor and the report generated will reflect the margin settings under Prooperties.

  19. MEMO tag

Under Options, on the Miscellaneous tab, uncheck "BMDB in a separate paragraph" under Format.
  20. 6.11 Entering Source problem

In the Source Definition Window click on the button to the left of a blank line. This opens a list of Source Elements. Select the one you want to add, i.e., Recipient Address, and click on Select. This adds the element to the definition window. To get it to print you must add the element <[RECIPIENT ADDRESS]> to the proper template on the Output Form tab for Full Footnote, Short Footnote, and Bibliography.
  21. 6.11 Entering Source problem

Since you are the recipient of the letter you are the repository of the letter. Your address should go in the repository information. If you don't wish to do that you can add fields to the "recipient address" to the source template, just be sure to add it to the output templates where you want it to print.
  22. 6.11 Entering Source problem

Fields that are designed for names such as Author, Recipient etc. are designed to entered Surname, GivenName and TMG arranges the name properly according to standard rules for full footnote, short footnote, and bibliography. Since you have a comma in Recipient, TMG reads is as: Surname: Sherry Breeding Chandler (1779 Kickapoo Street GivenName: South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150) Full Footnote format calls for the Recipient to be printed GivenName Surname so you end up with South Lake Tahoe, Ca 96150) Sherry Breeding Chandler (1779 Kickapoo Street
  23. Wishlist - sort names

There are two sort names, SortGiven and SortSurname...to the best of my knowledge they both are filled in automatically from the Given and Surname entered...do you have an example where they are not?
  24. Explanation posted by Lee Hoffman on TMG-L The "fixes" that are encountered here are of the kind that cause oddities in your data where the data is correct but the display makes it appear wrong or out of sequence or something like that. In most cases, these are index problems or display problems. The file structure of TMG is such that some data is stored in two places to speed up the program. One place is the actual data and the second ("speed up") place is a copy of the actual data. At times (power or operating system glitches, etc.), the updating of the "speed up" copy may be being done and the copy is not correct. The Validate File Integrity (VFI) process checks the copy data against the actual data and when it finds them different, it then corrects the copy from the actual. The VFI process now does even more checking that in the past and thus the first time that you run the VFI process, you can expect a large number of fixed issues. I suggest running the VFI a second (or third) time to get a "no problems found" notice.
  25. file name changed - can't open
