Is there a way to display the sort dates on the Person page (display)?
Sure would be handy
Thanks

Kenny,My only suggestion would be to change [L5] to [L]. TMG is smart enough to know that you only have data in L5 and it will print in Kansas. But if you find out he was born in say Springfield, Kansas and you add the city of Springfield (which I have no idea if it is a city in Kansas, having never been there.), the way you have it written now, you'd still get in Kansas.
True
I have done just that.

I just did not think it looked OK but it sounded OK
You guys are great, so is TMG

I am having trouble to make a birth tag sentence come out with some clarity, with my inability to grasp the English language properly.
I have many births that I know only the state, no town. Here is my sentence: [PG] was born <[D]> in [L5]
But when it prints out it does not sound right "Georg was born in 1923 in Kansas."
Since I don't have his day he was born on it just does not sound right. To many "IN's"
Any suggestions I would really appreciate.
Thanks to this dumb question

Kenny,Depending upon what would be appropriate to the narrative style you have chosen, you could put an appropriate Sort Date on such tags so that they are either first or last in your narrative. I might consider having it last, with a leading [:CR:] in the sentence to separate it from the "normal" narrative. It would not be in the standard SS relationship section, but may do close to what you want?
Thanks Michael
I'll toy with that idea

Michael, you said add a tag to describe that, if I did that John how could I get that tag to be under or on top of the relationship statement in SS?Kenny,
Sorry, but there's no easy way to add custom content to the relationship section that SS adds to the person page entry.
Thanks John
-
Kenny,Just like SS I think TMG will also always want to show the closest relationship. Some users have added a custom Tag to their data to output sentences that describe such complex and multiple relationships, especially when there are multiple paths such as in your family tree. That may be a better solution for your purposes than relying upon the automated relationship which will always try to show the closest.
Thanks a bunch John and Michael
Of course, I did not want to hear that.
Heck that's not very complex, I remember something like this a 3rd G grandfather that's also a couple cousins, I think there was 6 relationships.
Michael, you said add a tag to describe that, if I did that John how could I get that tag to be under or on top of the relationship statement in SS?

TMG V7.04
I have a weird situation, My ancestors are all intermingled, for instance, My 4th G Grandfather's father is shown as my 3rd G Grandfather on the "Automatic Relation tag" to me.
I goto "Relationship" calculator and it is true but also shows him as my 5th G Grandfather which is also true.
Question, how do I get the "Automatic Relation Tag" to show up as my 5th not my 3rd
SS also shows him as my 3rd
Love to change it
Thanks

Depending on a number of setting you may be making, there are a several ways to suppress the memo. But the most effective way, in my opinion, is to create a custom Tag Type specifically for this type of notes. Then, in the Tags tab of report Options for TMG reports, or Data> Database screen of Second Site, specify that on "Selected" Tag Types are to be included, and then unselect your custom Tag Type, except in the rare cases where you may actually want to include it.Thanks Micheal and Terry
Simple but effective
Good job

How can I keep the memo field from any report and Second Site, I just want it to be a note of information for me only?
I have it in a "Note Tag"
Thanks

You can only import data from RootsMagic 4 by way of a GEDCOM. When the GEDCOM is exported from RM, the option 'Extra details (RM specific)' should be unselected. Thanks Jim
We will give it a try

Hi all
I have a possible distant cousin that uses Rootsmagic IV and he sent me his backup which is an .rmgb file, TMG asks for a .sqz to import from Rootsmagic, woops TMG says it will import from Roots IV, is this the same as Rootsmagic?
Any idea how I can import his stuff with the exception of Gedcom?
Thanks

TMG Ver 7.04, Windows 7
I installed a solid state drive for my "C" drive and am using a HD for my data.
I moved my data from the "C" drive to the "D" drive, everything is working fine with the exception when I open TMG it always makes a new directory under my "User" directory, then I have to show it where it is. As long as I do not erase the TMG directory and it's sub's that it created everything works fine.
The minute I erase the Directories on the "C" drive, well here we go again, when I open TMG it creates them again.
Can't TMG take the hint, I own this computer, lock stock and barrel, I would think I could have it my way, why does TMG have to have it its way.
No big deal but I like to keep my house very clean and organized.
Don't get me wrong, I love TMG and have been using it for 10 years, great program.

Thanks Virginia, maybe when I upgrade it will magically go away. That's not a good idea. You need to resolve this data issue before you import the data to v7.
I had the same problem some time back, a year or two
I sent my database to Phil at support, he fixed it and returned it the same day.
Have not had the problem since
Hope this helps

Hi Kenny,I think this is a good use of the Sort Date feature (available in Advanced mode). I always put in the "Date" field what was found in the source documentation for that event, then put in the "Sort Date" an appropriate date (possibly different from the "Date") that will make the event sort appropriatetly with all other surrounding events. "Sort Date" is never output in any reports, so its only use is for you to ensure the sequencing of events you desire. Would this work?

Oops! Just noticed that you want to be sure the age is calcuated correctly. This may not work for that. For such people you may want/have to customize your sentences so that you enter the age as text rather than having TMG calculate it.
Thanks Michael
I was just hoping that TMG would do this for me.
I think I will put in the sentence of the Julian date but put the Georgian date in the date field and not have the date in the sentence only the [AE] statement.
I will try that later

I have many people born under the Julian Calendar and died under the Georgian Calendar.
Instead of converting the Julian calendar for the birth in order to get the correct age of death, is there a way to do this keeping the birth date as the Julian date?
Thank You

Of course I know the name I'm looking for and found thousands of them on another source which dried up on me so I switched to Ancestry.com which I find does not give the roll numbers, they just don't go all the way, at least I cannot find the em
Kenny
Glenn
That's exactly what I was looking for, at least the records have the ED 's on it and this source finishes the search out.
Thanks a bunch, saved my day

Does anyone know where one can obtain the proper T-xxx-xxxx numbers for say, a 1920 US census for
State of Washington, county of Spokane, Eugene Precinct, Spokane City, Enumeration District 266
I have found a chart for the 1930 but none for 1900, 10 and 20
I have googled it until I look like a google.
Help sure would let me progress in this huge undertaking.
Thanks

I am having trouble getting a child adopted to show up in the family on a journal report
Here is what I have done:
The child "Dylan" is Tims new wife's from a previous marriage.
For Dylan I have a tag called "Name-Adopted" and the sentence is "Upon adoption he was named [N] <[M]>"
and a tag called "Name-Birth" and the sentence is "[PP] birth name was [N] <[M]>"
and the tag "Father-Ado"
For the adoptive father "Tim" I have the tag "Son-Ado" with Dylan as the son.
also a tag called "Adopted" and the role of "Adoptor" and the sentence is "He <and [P2]> adopted [RG:Adoptee]< [M]><[D]><[L]>"
Dylan's birth surname is inserted in the memo field
Dylan is the "Adoptee"as listed in the sentence of "Adoptor"
My problem, when I do a journal report Dylan does not show up in Tim's family, Dylan's mother does, Dylan is now his son so how can I accomplish this?
I sure need some help here
Thanks in advance

Kenny,You say you have two Data Sets, but as you know from reading my article, Data Sets exist only with a Project. I gather these two Data Sets are in separate Projects, is that right?
If so, to get them into a common Project, you would Merge the two Projects. Please look at my article on Merging to see how to do that, as there are a couple of unexpected turns in the process.
Once you Merge the Projects, the two Data Sets will be in the resulting Project, and you can use Copy Person(s) to copy people from one to the other. When you are done you can delete the second Data Set from the Project if you want.
Thanks Terry
It worked but the "Merge" info in TMG is a bit confusing, I was there several times but backed out each time as it just did not sound to be the thing I wanted to do.
All's well in the Stugart house now.
Have a Happy New Year all

I recommend you review Terry's Tips about projects and datasets here. I think you will find your guidance there. Thanks Michael
I have been there many times and all I can find is what the difference is between a dataset and a project, he also only talks about moving or copying from one dataset to another dataset.
I want to know how do I create a project and then move my two datasets into it.
