  1. And the strange thing is that in my other, separate project, I am not seeing this behavior. Older, no longer used numbers are still available in the picklist. ??????

    Glen

And you are running the same TMG version on both machines? Which one(s) are you running?

Please allow me another - may be unnecessary - question:

If you search your project where you see this for those "old, no longer used ID #" what do you get?

Just a guess to be sure they really are no longer in use for any kind of unintended reason...

  2. Hi Vera,

Nope, the F2 picklist does appear, and it's not empty. What's different is that it now includes only NEW and previously unused numbers.

In the past whenever I merged people, their old ID numbers appeared at the top of the picklist. I could select them and use the numbers for new people I entered.

This time I discovered a family that I entered twice. I merged them to eliminate the duplicates. Then later when I went to add some completely new people and selected F2 to get to those old ID numbers, I noticed that the old numbers were not in the list. The list began with the next highest, never before used number. The old numbers just seem to have disappeared.

And the strange thing is that in my other, separate project, I am not seeing this behavior. Older, no longer used numbers are still available in the picklist. ??????

    Glen

    Thanks, Glen.

After the merge have you already used TMG's maintenance routines (Validate File Integrity and Optimize)?

If not I would suggest that you give it a try.... perhaps it helps. B)

  3. I just noticed that in ONE of my two separate projects, unused person ID numbers are not available in the F2 picklist for assigning to new people. My second project continues to behave just like TMG always has. The old, unused numbers (made available through merging people) can be selected from the F2 picklist.

Not that this is a big deal, but it kind of bothers me when a program acts kind of unpredictably. Has anyone else encounterd this, and do you know how to correct the problem.

    Thanks,

    Glen

    Glen,

so are you saying that the "F2 picklist for the ID-number field" is empty and you don't get any number to select from it?

Or do I have a total misunderstanding here and you are only referring to "old, unused numbers"? If so sorry for that.

May be you want to give this a try:

Use TMG's maintenance routines (Validate File Integrity and Optimize) if you haven't done recently and see if that perhaps helps.

  4. In TMG v6.09, the "structure version" problem still exists.

In my situation (Windows XP Pro SP2), the following applies:

The message "Structure version is missing. Contact tech support for assistance." is given after starting TMG in the following situations:

    1) if a TMG project is opened by another user, and

    2) if the TMG project was opened before when working Offline (Windows XP Pro feature to enable working when not connected to a network and shared disks, e.g. with a notebook).

TMG ends and can be restarted. Then the Welcome window is shown (even if this had been switched off in the preferences) and after selecting the last project button, the program works as normal.

The double restart every time is very irritating. Probably Wholly Genes support is not aware of the problem, they cannot solve it or it has a (too) low priority. Wake up folks!

    Arman,

this is not in any way an official Wholly Genes reply but

    1) as you know it has been reported earlier and I'm sure Wholly Genes is aware of it;

    2) thanks of providing details about how you run into this which is always very essential to replicate things;

    3) the current program design -as far as I know- is that some precaution steps are taken to avoid any damages to the user project. If TMG can't for some reason identify the structure version info then it unloads immediately. Classify this as a workaround but according to me it is always no doubt better than perhaps get the project and your data damaged.

    4) it will be reported again. :)

    5) please check in addition C:\WINDOWS\system32\vfp7rerr.log

Look into that file and see if it contains any timerelated entries / errors occured at the time of those shutdowns. If so, please add the error messages to your report.

  5. Hi,

I have some questions about the use of tag list in another language. I have set TMG to Danish language, and menus are shown in Danish, but the tag list is still in English:

    - How do I create my own tag list, and save it for future use?

    - When starting a new project. How do I use the tag list I have created?

    - When importing a GEDCOM file from an other program. How do I use my tag list?

    - And how do I change the tags from English to Danish within an existing project?

    Thanks

    Finn Frederiksen

    Hi, Finn,

first I would like to point you to Terry Reigel's TMG Tips pages because not long ago he published a really great series of articles dealing with all kind of different issues a user might come across while using another language than the standard English (US).

    Terry's homepage is here: http://tmg.reigelridge.com/index.htm

The introduction page for his language articles can be found here: http://tmg.reigelridge.com/Language-overview.htm

You will no doubt find the answers to all of your questions on his sites - much better explained than I can do. :)

Questions 1 to 3 are covered in his article "Selecting and Editing Languages" ( http://tmg.reigelridge.com/Language-editing.htm )

Once you have created your custom language simply run TMG using it. That will provide your preferred "Tag List", be used for a new project and also when importing a GEDCOM file. ;)

    Question 4

Go to Tools > Master Tag Type List > highlight the tag on the left you want to edit > click the Edit button.

On Tag Type Definition screen > open the pull-down menu for Languages > select Danish (these two last steps are only necessary if you haven't already set TMG's interface language to Danish).

Then on the "General" tab type in your preferred Label for that tag and so on. On the Roles and Sentences tab you may also customize the sentence structure used of this tag.

(Of course unnecessary to say but please pay attention and make sure that you only edit the language "Danish". )

  6. Go to File > Preferences > Program Options: Other and check the box "Send URLs to the browser with backslashes" - now you should get rid of the issue described.

    From TMG Help file:

Send URLs to the browser with backslashes

This box is checked by default and should be deselected only if you are using Netscape 2 through 4.78 or another browser which requires the forward slash.

  7. I am attempting to rune a report. Birthday, tag not empty end.

    Have 5000 people.

    Export to excel or csv.

generates, but as it ends it gives me the following errors

    1. Operator Operertor mismatch O NOSENSI

    2. Variable "" is not found OR_LOP

    Then the program locks up.

This report does work if I goto screen or if I print.

What is giving me these errors.

    Thanks

    Carlton Brooks

    Carlton,

    please see topic http://www.whollygenes.com/forums201/index...?showtopic=5695

This had been reported before, Jim Byram explains what causes the issue and also provided a work-around method.

  8. Hi, Lorna -

    in addition to Virginia.

Have you already checked the "error.txt" (to open with a texteditor!!) file in TMG's main folder?

You said in your first post "...then a message about an error occurred in the data tables..."

What's in "error.txt" file time-related to your issue?

In your additional message you say "...a backup seems to fail at the _L something data table..." - where's that assumption from?

For your main project in the specific folder where it is stored (other than the corresponding .CDX file) there should be 2 "L"-files: xxx_l.dbf and xxx_l.fpt. May be they should be sent to support and checked if they are OK.

  9. Hi, Marlene,

you only increase the font size of the Tag Entry Screen by hovering the mouse cursor over the lower right corner of that window (until the pointed turns into a double-headed arrow). Then hold the left mouse button down and drag the corner down to the right.

This increases the size of the window and the size of the text.

    Vera

  10. First of all Thanks for the detailed answers.

There is no Error.log file in the TMG folder.

Sorry, that was my fault. :(

The file name in TMG's main folder is "Error.txt" and it should be there at least containing two entries

    1) that C:\WINDOWS\system32\bbFolderTree.ocx was registered and

    2) that C:\WINDOWS\system32\msdxm.ocx was registered

Could you please check that again and tell us whether it additionally shows other entries which are "time-related" to the occurances of your issue?

The filter is for any individual where: Note, # Tags > 0 and NoteOK(costom flag) Y

Does TMG only show the fatal error you describe when you try to run this specific filter or have you also discovered this unwanted behavior otherwise.

If yes, please let us know in detail when.

And again an additional question regarding the filter:

where exactly do you use this filtercondition? e.g.

    1) trying to filter the Project Explorer or

    2) trying to filter the Picklist and if so which Picklist: the simple one or the expanded one?

Sorry for so many questions...

  11. A second question concerns the concequence of a program upgrade on languages. What exactly can get lost after an upgrade. Does an upgrade affect tags or sentences or anything else? I use a dutch version of TMG and upgraded 2 times already (overwriting the language), but nothing seems to be lost. This is certainly due to the fact that I didn't make a lot of changes yet (being a relatively new user), but I'm not sure I understand what I should pay attention to when upgrading in the future.

    Hi, Dirk,

Terry Reigel recently posted a couple of great, new articles dealing with TMG's language capabilities - see http://tmg.reigelridge.com/Language.htm

Here you should find the answers to your question.

  12. All Internet Links (all I found until now) were wrong!

    Reply in German. ;)

Send URLs to the browser with backslashes

This box is checked by default and should be deselected only if you are using Netscape 2 through 4.78 or another browser which requires the forward slash.

  13. Hello!

I am using TMG 6.09 witch german language.

When i add a task for a person i should be able to enter a startdate for my research.

    When i enter it (f.ex.: 21 5 2006) it automaticly changes to 21 Mai 2006.

    Annot.:(Mai = german for May)

Once i press the OK Button it tells me i have to write it in a valid dateformat (i guess TMG expects american dateformat here) and doesn't save it.

When i try writing 21 May 2006 it also gets changed back to 21 Mai 2006 and is...invalid.

I guess it might be a bug in the Task list only, since german dates work fine everywhere else.

I only tried this with the german language pack.

    Best regards, Phil

    Hi Phil,

was able to reproduce your issue and will report it.

And yes, you're right TMG expects American date format. ;)

  14. After initiating a filter, when I select a note tag in the first individual's events the program abruptly terminates. There is no indication of an error and there are no enteries in the Windows event logs. This is happening to me about 3 times per day. Any sugestions?

    Hmmm, happens frequently? :o

Which Operating System are you running?

Any entries in TMG's "Error.log" file which is in the main folder where TMG is installed?

    Any entries in C:\WINDOWS\system32\vfp7rerr.log?

What kind of a filter are you initiating? Filtering the PE? What filterconditions?

Have you recently run TMG's maintenance routines? If not I would suggest that you do to validate and optimize your data.

Any chance that there is not enough memory available and/oder paging space?

  15. Hi,

    That would be wonderful!!

I used the software Dynastree (www.dynas-tree.de).

To export into data files I can choose between:

    v4

    v5.5

    v5.5+DE

    v5.5+EL

    v5.5+DE+EL

So I am not sure how to export it for TMG and for you to get as many data’s back as possible.

I also found out that TMG knows that there are pictures for several persons but TMG does not copy them as requested into its folder. And if you copy them into the folder TMG still does not show the pictures. But it knows exactly which person has a picture and the name of it. What is wrong than?

How can I solve the problem with the English addresses? I want to change these names but my efforts to change it were not successfull (see above). Yes this is what you mean with customized names.

If you tell me to which ged version I shall export my data’s I will send it to you and Thank you so much for your help!!

    Hi,

    please use v5.5.

    Everything else directly off-list.

  16. Hi,

from the screenshots you provided several problems seem to be visible.

You're trying to use a customized name style, right?

If you like sent me your GEDCOM file you're trying to import and I will work with it.

    Sent it directly to vpanews@t-online.de

Which TMG Version are you running?

What is the name of the German ged-software by which you created that GEDCOM file?

  17. Hi,

I have installed TMG v6.09 (in German) and wanted to try the new message manager functions. I ran into the following problems:

    1) When I start the message manager (help/message manager) I get a small window, saying (translated from German "Kann keine Nachrichten empfangen, da keine Internetverbindung gefunden wurde."):

Cannot receive messages because no internet connection was found.

After that, the message manager window opens.

    2) If I got to the Outgoing tab and klick on "Access the company website", my browser (Firefox) opens and tries to access this site:

    http://\\www.whollygenes.com/

    Of course, it fails.

My internet connection is XDSL, accessible any time (Check for updates works without problem).

    Any help is welcome.

    Regards

    Helmut

    Hi, Helmut,

    1) when the message manager opens, do you get any messages?

    2) Under File > Preferences > Options > Program Options > Other have you checked the option "Send URLs to the browser with backslashes"?

(PS: Tut mir leid, daß ich Deine Nachricht an die deutsche Gruppe erst jetzt gelesen habe...)
