  1. Hi Bjorn,

...But what does "Temple" mean here? I know what a temple is, but it can't be that...? LOL

    It actually means "Temple".

That refers to the members of the LDS (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints) and reflects their name for their "church".

BTW They provided the GEDCOM specifications if I'm not totally mislead.

    Att. norwegians:

I also wonder how other norwegian users labels the place and name styles.  I want to do this right from the beginning, so I don't have to reorder the contents in my input fields later.  I'd appreciate some tips, if you have experience with this.

Regarding this may be you would like to contact Torleif Haugødegård from Hamar, Norway a very experienced TMG user. His email address is .

  2. Adolfo,

what you see is normal behavior as far as I know.

Regarding this there is actually NO difference between the TMG Versions 5.15 and 6.07 (the latest one).

The same is exactly true for any foreign language other than English (default).

The first screenshot shows Italian entries in the English (Read only) column saying in Italian e.g. that the value must be between 1 and 250, right?

    ==> Those are resulting form

English (original): The value must be between %##% and %^^%

Italian: Il valore deve essere fra %##% e %^^%

(hope that is correct  and assume you have already translated this English entry in the table :) )

==> when those variables (you see in the sentence) are "filled" with values in a certain case.

Similar effect with the second screenshot showing Swedish entries I guess.

    Nothing to worry about. ;)

  3. Hi Vera

    Thank You for your kindness.

    I've a new problem.

I find on the english side some of my translations.

    Any suggestion?

I know that v.6 is better but I will wait and work with v.5

It seems be many problem with v.5 then resolved with v.6

    Regards

    Adolfo

    Hi, Adolfo,

can you please provide an example which of your translations you see "on the english side" - may be you could make a screenshot and post it.

    You're welcome. :)

  4. Hi Bjorn,

    (I hope that's correct B) )

Many thanks for the detailed answers.

I seem to remember a tool for database consistency check somewhere... will that be sufficient?

TMG itself has a build-in tool to "Validate File Integrity" (VFI) it's in File > Maintenance. I would recommend that you run it.

At the end of the checking process it tells you whether potential problems have been encountered and fixed.

Then run Optimize also within File > Maintenance.

If VFI has encountered any potential problems in the step before then please run that sequence again until VFI states "No problems found."

Additionally you might want to look into TMG's main folder and open the file "Error.txt" with a texteditor (!!) and check whether it shows any kind of error messages dated when you got the error you reported.

If the error.txt file contains those messages please copy them and post them in your next reply.

  5. Hi,

you say the error directly occurs on startup, right?

May be it indicates that the path name where TMG is installed on your computer is too long?

May be I'm wrong but I seem to remember when using WIN XP as operating system it's limited up to 128 characters.

Can you please check or let us now the exact path name?

And after the error occurred you were able to run TMG without incident? Is that right? Or have I misinterpreted your post?

If you're able to run TMG without any error message then you should also be able to open your project within TMG and check whether it's OK.

If you don't want to this immediately then please try to open TMG's Sample Project first and see what happens.

Please keep us informed how things are going on.

  6. Many thanks for your detailed reply.

But sorry to say I'm a bit wondering right now because

    1) in your first post you said that you're trying "to open data on my new computer from my backup file" and backup files usually have the file extension .SQZ

    2) and in your recent post you mentioned that it is a .PCJ file on disk??

Anyway sometimes it works much better if you first copy your TMG file from the disk to the hard drive of your new computer and then try to open (as far as it is a .PCJ file) or to restore (in case it is a .SQZ file) that file with TMG.

  7. Hi

I'm translating TMG 5.15 to Swedish and Italian and I got a minor problem.

All kinds of report using abbreviations like b.(born), m.(married) etc will remain the same on every language.

Of course I modified the "abbreviation" on  "Master Tag Type List" for every language but unsuccessfully.

Every language, not only mine, will use b., m. etc.

    Any suggestion?

    Thanks

    Adolfo

    Hi Adolfo,

you're right those abbreviations are not honored / not sticking within reports in TMG v5.15.

    In addition please see topic

    http://www.whollygenes.com/forums201/index...?showtopic=4720

posted by a norwegian user dealing with the same issue.

Of course you are able to edit the reports manually (so that the desired abbreviations appear) but I suppose that's nothing you really want to do, right?

  8. When I try to open data on my new computer from my backup file, I get the error message RECNO not found.  How can I correct this?

Can you please provide a bit more details about when you exactly get that error?

Simply by opening your restored project?

It would be really great if you could give us a step-by-step guidance what you do before the error occurs.

please go to the main folder on your computer where TMG is installed. Here you'll find a file named "Error.txt".

Open it with a texteditor and copy the messages it might contain for that date when you got the error described.

Then please post them here in your next reply.

  9. Thanks, Vera, you've found a way to get around my problem.

Hank, still working on your issue in that special project.

The workaround I suggested "toggle the Father-Bio tag or the Mother-Bio tag on the child's PV primary" was not good enough, sorry.

Will contact you off-list for details.

  10. Vera - I'm using the fixed project.  The parent's IDs 168 and 870.  The children 171 (it worked for me on 171), 564 (it didn't work for this one), 173, 174, 600, 411 and 183.  I didn't try after 564 didn't work.  Note the marriage tags for the parents.  I did this while I was still learning.  Now I would like to correct it.

    Hank

OK thanks, will have a look.

  11. I have a number of siblings whose parents do not show on their details.  I know who the parents are.  On one child, I click on father (then mother) and enter the parent ID.  The parents show for that child.  On the next child, the child tag shows under the parent but not under the child's name on the child's record.  How do I make it work for all siblings as it did for the first one?

    Hi Hank,

are you working with your "fixed project" ;) or with the original one?

Are those children newly added to your project or are they existing ones?

If the later can you please give me a ID # of any of those children where the parents are "missing" so that I may have a look at them.

  12. Sharon,

which TMG Version are you using? TMG v6.07, right?

Which report type are you referring to - journal?

In your main TMG folder you'll find a file named Error.txt (please open it which a texteditor!!) and copy the error messages (dated when you got those errors) into your next reply to this post so that we can exactly see what they say.

Did you run TMG's maintenance tools recently? If not you probably should.

  13. Cathy,

I don't know whether this may help or not but I would kindly suggest to at least give it a try.

    Just to be sure:

    -you use TMG v6.07, right?

-which Operating System are you using? On which Patch level?

-Have you run TMG's maintenance tools recently? If not you should do that - Reindex, VFI, Optimize.

Please run VFI as many times as may be needed to get the message that no problems were found.

When I look at your post dated 09 Jan 2006 and look at the timestamps of those error messages within the Error.txt file I personally would assume that:

-the first message refers to your attempt to run a Distribution of People report and

-the later following message refers to your attempt to run a List of People report.

Have you tried to do that in this sequence?

    Next questions:

When you try to run a Distribution of People report or a List of People report please give us the exact "settings / configurations" you are using - both on Report Definition Screen (RDS) itself as well as on "Options..."

Are you using a Filter condition? And if yes, which one? Please provide exact filter conditions you have defined.

Are you also running into any kind of issues if you say on RDS "Print to screen"?

Does it make a difference if you use TMG's sample project instead of your own working project?

  14. Jeff,

this error message typically indicates that an "OCX" file needed is missing.

Go to the main directory where TMG is installed. Here you'll find a file named "Error.txt". Open it with a texteditor (!!). It should show the following "OCX" files as registered:

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\bbFolderTree.ocx was registered

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\msdxm.ocx was registered

Is that the case? I assume they are, right? Because you wrote you don't have any trouble using your existing project.

Does the Error.txt show any other error messages?

When you updated TMG did you run any anti-virus or anti-spam software during the update? If yes, may be they produced conflicts which now cause this error. It's always a good idea to turn those temporarily off during software updates or fresh installs.

Did you apply any security updates in the meantime because security settings may cause this issue? If yes is it possible that they have "turned off" active-X controls registered?

What happens if you run the application under the Administrator account (WinXP Administrator level)? Does that make a difference?

Please additionally only look directly into C:\WINDOWS\system32 if the bbFolderTree.ocx file (!!don't try to access or open it!!) is there also.

  15. It happens every time I try to access my research log, but only on certain items.

    Hi Ken,

    thanks for the detailed answers.

You say it only happens for certain items - can you remember if you changed anything on these in the meantime?

Perhaps renumbered them or anything like that so that the assigned source to those tasks has become "somewhat invalid"?

If you want me to have a look at it and see if I'm able to figure out something please feel free to sent me the following tables of your project where the issue occurred:

xxprojectname_l.dbf as well as xxprojectname_l.fpt (the character preceding the ending of those file is an "L"!!)

Please sent it directly to vpanews@t-online.de.

Oh, BTW have you tried to run TMG's maintenance tools. May be that helps??

  16. Hi Ken,

I did testing on this but unfortunately was not able to replicate it.

    Is it repeatable for you?

And if yes, can you please provide a detailed step-by-step description of what you are doing and especially what you entered in the different fields for the research task you updated (the exact data will help most I guess)?

If you use Sample Project do you get the same error when doing exactly the same before the error occurred in your working project?

Does the Error.txt file in TMG's main folder also show this error message?
