  1. David,

several other users reported "add person problems" which should be fixed in next release. Sorry for the inconvenience.

    Just to be sure:

You said: The problem arises when I attempt to add a new person.

Could you please describe step-by-step what you exactly do?

And in addition could you please look at the "error.txt" file in your main TMG folder - does it show up any error messages. If yes please let us know what' in there.

    Thanks in advance,

    Vera

  2. Very nice, Vera.

    Now it's working.

I'm an italian living in Sweden and I've seen the italian translation too.

Who did it? Excuse me, but it's just terrible. Someone used a PC-program like Power Translator.

I wonder if any italian genealogist reacted about it.

I don't want look "bessewisser" as they say in Germany.

My english is poor, but I can italian and swedish quite well and I hope You will not dislike my critique, is not ill meant.

    Best regards

    Adolfo

You're welcome Adolfo and good to hear it worked. :)

I don't know who did the Italian translation. May be it's a good idea to contact Wholly Genes Support directly and ask them. If you would like to provide an Italian translation or improve the existing one (who could do better than a native Italian ;) ) I guess they would appreciate it. And same is of course true for Swedish.

  3. TMG1.jpg

Yes, I paid attention to i.e "/>" and they are working. But: i.e on "Details/Type" I get always "Birth,Marriage, Burial" . On "Report/Descendent Indented Narrative" I get "Han was born or Han married.

I attach a screendump of "my" swedish version.

    Thanks for your reply.

To change e.g. the tag type labels you mentioned go to Tools > Master Tag Type List e.g. 'Birth' say Edit.

On Tag Type Definition Screen > General tab change the label etc. to the swedish word you want to use. Be sure to do so in your language (!!) - there's a corresponding pull-down menu near the top of this screen to select the language you want to change.

On the same screen you'll find a tab "Roles and Sentences". Use it to change the default sentences you mentioned in your reply to "your" swedish version.

    I hope this will help.

  4. I'm trying to translate TMG 5.15 to Swedish, but a lot a words are not recognized. The result is is Swenglish....

I tried to translate using the "norwegian-translation" with the same result.

It still using many english words.

    Any suggestion?

    Thanks.

Could you please give an example where it doesn't work?

Did you pay attention to special characters like "/>" within words which must be kept?

    Thanks, Vera

  5. However, other witnesses (not Prin1 or Prin2) should not be tested or included in this filtered List of Events output.

This suggests that there is potentially a bug if what you report can be reproduced on another project.

I've tested it with Sample Project - added myself as a witness to the marriage of person ID#1 - then ran the same report - and TMG totally correct said:

    There are no qualifying events.

So as far as I can see there's no bug within TMG.

    Vera

  6. Vera,

I am confused by this statement you made because when I create any project in TMG the file name always has 2 underlines added automatically by the program at the end. e.g my main project was called piper by me but the file name is piper__.pjc

BTW I have never, as far as I can recall suffered from this problem.

    Jeff,

the statement you mentioned wasn't in any way referring to the underlines automatically (!!) added by the program - that's totally normal behavior. It only refers to spaces or underlines manually added by the user probably.

  7. Randy,

    thanks for your reply.

In addition to what Virginia already suggested please allow me two more questions:

Did you apply any security updates in the meantime because security settings may cause this issue? If yes is it possible that they have "turned off" active-X controls registered?

What happens if you run the application under the Administrator account? Does that make a difference?

    Vera

  8. Randy,

this error message typically indicates that an "OCX" file needed by TMG is missing.

Go to the main directory where TMG is installed. Here you'll find a file named "Error.txt". Open it with a texteditor (!!). It should show the following "OCX" files as registered:

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\bbFolderTree.ocx was registered

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\msdxm.ocx was registered

    Is that the case?

Does the Error.txt show any other error messages?

When you updated TMG did you run any anti-virus or anti-spam software during the update? If yes, may be they produced conflicts which now cause this error.

  9. How do I make God Parent tags appear in reports?  I have chosen All Tag Types in the reports "Descendancy Narrative" and "Journal" but they don't appear.  Is there any other report that will show these tags?

In Report Type "Individual Detail" go to Report Options click on "Miscellaneous" tab and select "Parents: All variations".

    Vera

  10. On the individual print out, I have my souces shown, they naturally appear in a set of brackets, how do i remove these set of brackets, thanks

Don't know if I if really got you but for the report type Individual narrative e.g. on Report Definition Screen click on Options... then go to tab "Sources" and check "Embedded" instead of "Embedded with parentheses".

    Hope this helps :)

    Vera

  11. Vera:  Have sent to you the data you suggested, but as noted in that email, the problem seems to have gone away for the moment.  I am convinced that sometimes it take my computer a couple of days to put all of its toys away, so they will be ready when needed. :D

You're welcome, David. And very glad to hear you're fine right now. :)

Thanks, for sending the backup file of your project - will work on it.

    Vera

  12. Hi Vera,

Which issue specifically were you referring to, so I know what to not expect change on yet.

    Thanks,

    Pat

The original one: Variable 'LCVALDATE' is not found. 157 FRMADDPERSON.MSAVE

(when adding brother/sister/daughter) as well as anything related to "MARRNAME" messages. The whole thing is very complex.

As Virginia already pointed out a couple of the error messages you received during your latest tests are follow-ups.

    Vera

  13. David,

could you please give details about the exact filter condition you are using when you get this error message.

And could you please also provide the text / entries within your TMG's errorlog file (error.txt).

Unfortunately from time to time users are running into similar issues like this and it may happen or not even on the same project.

But in all cases it occurs when trying word processor output for reports. It is a known problem of word processor conversion library which couldn't be solved yet (known limitation).

May be it could also help if you could sent a backup file of your "affected" project - sent it directly to vpanews@t-online.de.

    Sorry for the inconvenience,

    Vera

Go to the directory where TMG is installed and only look (!!don't touch - open anything!!) into ...\Program Files\The Master Genealogist\wordproc

does it show .dll files named:

    OMSWW2.dll

    OMSWW6.dll

  14. How do I remove a column from a custom report?

This answer refers to TMGv5.15. Don't know if that is the version you are using.

For reports as far as I know TMG only uses the wording "columns or output columns" for the report types "List of..." (Report > List of... > e.g. Events). On Report Definition Screen near the bottom you'll find "Options..". Clicking on it opens Report Options screen and here you find a tab called "Output Columns" where you can select the Output Columns for your report by opening the drop down lists for the fields.

If you want to create a custom report of a different type TMG has an option to select tags to be printed in the report. Select your report type - click on "Options..." button at the bottom of Report Definitions Screen - click on "Tags" tab on Report Options screen - check "Selected" for Tag types and you'll see a list of tags. Now select those specific tags which you want to include in the output for your report.

    Hopefully this helps -

    Vera

  15. Hi. I'm running v. 5.15 and am having a problem getting my dates to revert to the format I want - mm/dd/yyyy. I went into preferences and found the screen to do it, but it only changed a few of the dates. It won't even let me change the dates manually. Help, please.

I just tested it with sample project using TMGv5.15 and APPLIED the format "mm/dd/yyyy" under file>preferences>program options>general and everything works as expected for me.

Which dates are not changed for you?

Does it work correctly when you use sample project?

    Vera

  16. Haven't found another quotation of my problem, so maybe I am the only one or just foolish:

In TMG 6.07 my entries in PE or Picklist are not sorted correctly, if for instance I prefer surnames, about one third of the names comes unsorted, after that all seems regular. Switching to birth dates: same effect - the person unsorted under surnames comes in regular, but another third comes in wild unorder up front.

If I open one of the irregulars, open a tag to fake editing and call the picklist again, that person is sorted in. So I thought it had something to do with the last date edited, "edited" a couple of hundred entries, but now same thing happens with these modified entries, too.

It's no fun working with such a irregular picklist, so I am really looking forward for some kind of assistance, really appreciate it!!

Can you please give a bit more details to track this down?

Are you using Beginners Mode or Advanced Mode?

Are you using Simple Picklist or Expanded Picklist?

Is the Project Explorer linked to other windows or not?

And it would really be helpful if you could attach a screenshot to your answer which shows the effect you're seeing.

But what so ever sorting e.g. in the PE has nothing to do with the last edited date.

    Thanks in advance, Vera

  17. In general and independent to TMG's error message behavior you see:

What really, really personally worries me deeply when reviewing this whole thread is the overall state for your computer system. But when writing this I have of course to omit: I don't know the details. But please forgive me: I'm really wondering if it is healthy.

    Reasons:

You say your system is slow.

You say you proofed or at least got the impression that temporarily disable your virus scan software made your system perform better.

Running TMG maintenance tools "crashed" your system.

Running a TMG report "crashed" your system.

So more or less we're permanently running into a status where your system is driven so crazy that nothing is working anymore. And thanks God that you haven't lost data so far.

If this was my own system (and please believe me sometime ago I had a similar situation with my notebook) I personally would do the following prior to any more testing or even continuing any dataentry.

    Check the system in detail:

    - what kind of harddrive

    - how much physical memory

    - how much free physical memory

    - how much allocated paging space on your harddrive (globally the paging space size allocated on your harddrive should e.g. be twice the size of your physical memory)

    - which operating system is installed

    and so on....

I personally got the impression that when you run anything else besides just simply entering data into TMG your system begins to page or swap (whatever you might call it) like hell -because the physical memory is out of capacity and the allocated paging space on your harddrive is needed- until it seems to run into a state where even the paging space isn't big enough any more and the system crash ends everything up. An absolutely unacceptable situation....
