Thanks a lot for those additional informations.
Same outcome on adding a dummy brother with all dates expressed.Hmmm, still looking at the issue.
"1) When you got this combination of error messages what exactly (!!) did you enter in the date fields on add person setup screen?"Can't help there...many names ago, who can know?
When I look at those entries within the error log I see this combination dated on
2005.11.19 and also on 2005.11.22 can you please check by "last edited date" if that may lead us to those persons/names?

Nils,
you may also want to get in direct contact with the very experienced and long-lasting Norwegian TMG User Group Coordinator Torleif from Hamar, Norway.
To do so click on "Members" on the right side near the top of the Forum Page and search for "Torleif" then you can sent him a personal message or an email.
His homepage is: http://www.tha.no/
Just an additional suggestion.

OK, if it is an indexing issue with my Help file, any suggestions short of uninstalling TMG and re-installing from scratch?Pierce
Pierce,
I also can't replicate your issue.
But before uninstalling TMG and re-installing from scratch I would suggest that you may contact Wholly Genes TechSupport directly: support@whollygenes.com.

New variant of the same problem:upon saving an add-person/daughter the error received is
Function argument value, type, or count is invalid. 15 FTOA
Ignore gets back the original error
Variable 'LCVALDATE' is not found. 157 FRMADDPERSON.MSAVE
More.....
1) When you got this combination of error messages what exactly (!!) did you enter in the date fields on add person setup screen?
2)
(additional and completely independent to the previous suggestions and/or questions)
Go to the path on your computer where TMG is installed (e.g. C:\Program Files\The Master Genealogist. Here you should find a file named "Error.txt" open it with a Texteditor (!! e.g. Notepad or Write) and let us exactly know which messages it contains.
Thanks,

Variable 'LCVALDATE' is not found. 157 FRMADDPERSON.MSAVEDon't know whether you contacted WG Tech Support directly in the meantime. And if so whether they gave you any advice. If they did please forget about anything of the following!!
I'm also using TMGv6.07 (also updated from a previous version of TMG) and by testing it back and forth I wasn't able to reproduce the effect you see. So please don't blame me or make me responsible on anything if my suggestion doesn't help. I'm no developer!
My best guess is that the first sentence indicates that DATE(s) are missing in add person Setup screen when you entered / added a brother/sister/daughter.
And the second sentence seems to refer to the "form" ADDPERSON upon SAVING.
That should be fixed in the next release of TMG.
So you might want to test (completely upon your own risk!) if you get the same error if you add a dummy brother and fill in ALL dates on add person setup screen.
Do nothing else and especially don't run any maintenance tools!!
If you decide to give it a try please let us know what happened.

Just tested the following as described in detail:
I'm using TMGv6.07 on Windows XP and MS Excel 2002 SP3 (Office XP Package).
1) Applied date format settings for TMG:
File > Preferences > Program Options > General > Date format: yyyy.mm.dd
2) Used TMG Report type:
Report > List of People e.g. > Print to: File / File type: Microsoft Excel v5 (XLS) - define a File name with ending .XLS
Report > ............... Options... > Output Columns whatever you specify (let's say Name, Birth Date, Death Date, Last Edited Date)
3) Within Excel:
Sorting in Excel via Data > Sort > sort by last.. then by birth.. sorts as expected in ascending or descending order just as you like.
My dataset contains data prior to 1900 as well as "incomplete" and/or totally missing dates.
If it's still not working for you could then please give us some detailed examples where the sort is not correct.

That's really good new.
You're welcome, Cathy.

Hi, Cathy,
Virginia and I worked on the effect you get and Virginia had an excellent idea which worked absolutely perfect for me. Special thanks to Virginia.
I've tested it with TMGv6.07 !! - so you might first test the following on your home computer only (which you updated to v6.07 as you told us) and just for a single custom flag.
So please try the following:
Open Flag Manager and EDIT your custom flags. Only (!!) use upper case characters for their names!!
Then OK.
Now look at the Flag Window - they should all appear completely in upper case here also.
Now run report type > List of Events. Does it work now?
Vera
-
Hi, Cathy,
thank you so much for the very detailed answer. That helps a lot continuing on detective work.
No need to worry about how the custom flags now appear in the drop-down list - that's totally normal for TMGv6.07.
Updating to the lastest release of TMG doesn't help to solve the effect you get - that's my experience too. Sorry.

Cathy,
may be I'm able to replicate the issue. I've tested with my Testproject and had the same result.
To verify it a bit more (and before I'll report it) please let us know:
1) When you look at the Flag window do your custom flags appear in upper or in lower case characters?
2) On Report > List of Events > RDS > Options > Output Columns what is/are the exact entry / entries in the drop-down list for your custom flags?
3) On Report > List of People > RDS > Options > Output Columns what is/are the exact entry / entries in the drop-down list for your custom flags?
4) May be I've missed it but which TMG version are you using? Did you upgrade from previous versions?
5) Did you just create your custom flags or were they created in previous versions of TMG?

I'm using version 6.07, and for the first time since upgading to this version, I've attempted to create an individual narrative opting to "print to screen". When I select the "print and save" button, I get a message stating that it is "calculating text for one person", but then nothing follows. When the calculation is "100% complete", it simply goes back to the subject person's details screen. Can anyone tell me which step I'm missing? I know this featured worked in the past.
Thanks
I've tried to replicate what you are reporting with Sample Project and was sometimes able to have the same effect under very special conditions. So I'll try to verify what I'm seeing and report it.
If possible please describe the details step-by-step when it happens to you.

Thank you Vera. You are welcome, Polly.

Hi, Polly,
I'm able to replicate what you are reporting with Sample Project also. Behavior will be reported.

When I open my TMG Gold Edition v6.07, I sometimes get an intermittent message:“The file C:\Program Files\The Master Genealogist\projects\TMGJIMBEV__.PJC does not appear to be a valid PJC file”
Jim,
project names cannot have spaces or underlines as the last character.
Seems you need to rename your project.

Hi Teresa,This (undocumented?) feature only enables you to go to the line starting with that letter. It does, however, not find a certain string in the whole list. And that is what I'm looking for.
Thanks for your tip anyway.
Hi, Arman,
personally I don't feel that the current design is lacking of something.
To implement what you are looking for would mean to have a "split or advanced FIND feature" which allows the user to decide individually and case by case whether he or she would like to FIND e.g. only exact matches or any kind of matches etc.
And are you really ever totally sure which string you are looking for? Some of them contain or even start with "special characters / place holders" (like "/>")which a user is unable to recognize simply by looking at the program interface. And solely having and "Exact Find feature" in this case may drive a user crazy somehow.
So having a "Find Near" feature as actually implemented according to me seems to cover the needs of at least a major group of users.

Again, the same problem occurs when copying a tag and "pasting" it to another person. See How to copy and paste an event from one person to another? Please see my reply to topic: http://www.whollygenes.com/forums201/index...owtopic=4515&hl
Vera

I can't easily check this at the moment! However, I presume that the Copy Tag will update the Last Edited Date of the person from whom the tag is being copied as at that moment you are actually adding another tag to that person.Hi, Arman,
hi, Robin,
I'm able to reproduce the effect Arman sees. The Copy Tag updates actually only the Last Edited Date of the person from whom the tag is being copied but it doesn't update the Last Edited Date of the person who's receiving the tag. And that shouldn't be the case according to me.
Effect will be reported.

Hi, Arman,
like Peter and Terry using any of your filters described I also get the correct result of everyone in the project (after applying update from v6.04 to v6.05).

Perhaps you saw some of my other topics regarding researchers working together on the same project at different locations. Many other applications (in the office environment and software development) have special features for this. In TMG, this is hardly the case.Hi, Arman,
could you please be a bit more precise what you are referring to saying .... in other applications... have special features for this?
Sorry, but couldn't get you so far.

I hope that Wholly Genes will change the following:2) Make it possible to save the group to a file.
Don't you mean the following which is already possible in TMG.
Create a focus group, say Export and give it a name which you like.
Go to Reports > List of... > Persons, select the just created focus group and print it to file and location as you like to. So you saved it.

Somehow I managed once to get the dates right, probably I changed the date format in the preferences just before generating the report. Perhaps this what you did too.Hi, Arman,
sometimes I see what you reported and sometimes I don't.
Changing the preferences right before generating the report for me had no influence.
What helped to apply the date format wanted correctly was to close the project, re-open it and generate the report (e.g. List of People) and then everything worked as expected.
But anyway good to know that someone has an eye on that.

For your informationWhen the date format YYYY.MM.DD has been selected in the preferences, it is shown all right in TMG. But on the charts in Visual Chartform, the dates are in the format YYYY.M.D, without the leading zeros. Thus, the date 1910.05.08 is printed as 1910.5.8.
The same problem occurs in the List of People report.
On 2005-10-15 the problem has been reported to Support.
Hi, Arman,
just tested what you reported with Sample project and can't replicate it, sorry.
When I print a List of People to screen the date format shown is DD.MMM.YYYY??
Which other charts do you refer to?

Hi, Arman,
thanks for posting.
This has already been reported and will hopefully be fixed ASAP.

Hi, Arman,
the abbreviations you mentioned mean:
a) standard tags
Ado - Adopted (abbrev. for Dutch: Ado)
Fst - Foster (abbrev. for Dutch: Pleeg)
Oth - Other (abbrev. for Dutch: Ander)
Ste - Step (abbrev. for Dutch: Stief)
God - God (abbrev. for Dutch: Peet)
customized tag
Can - Possible?? (abbrev. for Dutch: Can)
I have to omit I'm not sure about this one.

More... if you decide to give it another try
FTOA is a special function of the program language.
And this error can only happen if the value passed to this function is logical
instead of character.
When adding a "dummy":
A possible suggestion is to say "Add person" and on Add person setup screen say Setup and on Add Person Template screen say "Reset template" on following Message box "...are you sure?" YES. Then enter your data to see if the behavior still persists.
Nothing else please!! And sorry to say that again: completely on your own risk.
Other than that take advantage of WG TechSupport like Phil invited you to do.
