  1. 7.03 Download error for UK Version

For information it's still a problem today going via the Help menu. I'll try the alternative Cheers
  2. Backup/Restore Problem from v6 to v7

Virginia, Many thanks. It worked fine. I'm sorry but I misinterpreted Jim's earlier comment about the mainframe to relate just to the movement from v6 to v7. I'll now do it as you suggest every time. Thanks again and I hope you all have a great weekend Cheers. John Feast
  3. Backup/Restore Problem from v6 to v7

Jim, Thanks for the input. I thought it had worked but unfortunately only a partial success. If I can explain the scenario. (sorry it goes on a bit!) At the same time as obtaining v7 I have acquired a laptop. Initially I installed v7 on the Laptop and then took a backup of my project in v6, added it to a memory stick and did a restore from it on my laptop. All OK I then installed v7 on my desktop took a backup from the laptop as I'd made some layout changes and then restored the v7 installation on the desktop. Again all OK. I then tried to repeat part of this process by doing a backup/restore from the v6 installation onto the laptop. That's when I got the restore error. Following your note I did the backup/restore totally on the desktop (v6 to v7), limiting it to project/accents/filters and it was fine. I then tried to do a limited backup/restore from v7 desktop to v7 laptop and got the same error message as I got the first time:- DynaZip unZip error; no files to test, extract etc. (no items match filespec) There was then a separate message indicating that the Zipfile may be locked or restricted. Any further help will be much appreciated. As you can probably tell I'm out of my depth here! Cheers John Feast
  4. Sorry folks but another query from the UK. I have successfully transferred my project from v6 to v7 but when I try and do the same with my wife's project it fails and a message says it's because it has been unable to open a zip file. Neither of us have ever knowingly created one of these and all I can think is that it relates to some photos that my wife has included as exhibits. There are none in mine and apart from that I can't think of any differences between our projects. Having said that I have done a search for .zip files and there are none associated with TMG I also tried looking in The Master Genealogist/pics to find the pictures but they're not there although that's the file quoted in Preferences for Exhibits. Can you offer any solutions? At present when the restore is completed and you try and select the project it says its from v5/6 and won't open. Comments as always very gratefully received Cheers. John
  5. Custom Toolbar - Add a Specific Tag

Terry, Many thanks as always. Why didn't I see that field! All OK now. Cheers. John
  6. Thanks to you both. I'll stick with the 'Inquest' tag. Cheers. John You may be interested to know that I have just installed v7 and having done a backup and restore my Inquest tag has been deleted and replaced by one called Witness1. The entry on the details screen shows the memo details. All this without any involvement of myself. Sounds like the system has been listening in to our exchange of notes!! Needless to say I am now leaving well alone! Cheers John
  7. Having just installed v7 I thought I'd try and update my layout with a Toolbar for regularly used tags. I think I've followed the steps in Help correctly but the Button Label always appears as the default 'add a selected tag' rather the Birth, Baptism etc. I have selected from the Tag Type list. Even if I modify the Tip to read, for example, Add Birth Tag, I still get the default on every button. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Many thanks John
  8. Thanks to you both. I'll stick with the 'Inquest' tag. Cheers. John
  9. Terry, Many thanks for your quick reply. The Item Tips suggestion didn't work I'm afraid and there definitely isn't a line break. What I did instead was simply to copy the Witness Tag and call it Inquest. It then worked perfectly! This suggests that there is some specific code against the word 'Witness' that I'm coming up against and that blocks the display. Unless you have any other thoughts I think I'll take the easy option and continue with the Witness tag. I wouldn't be surprised if it's the only time it gets used in this context. Thanks again John
  10. I have created a Custom Tag for 'Witness' to cover the scenario where the person is a witness at an Inquest into the death of someone totally unrelated to my Family History Project. I have used the Misc Event Type but cannot get the detail I have entered in the Memo field appearing in the main Details Window. I'm told that it should, as long as the related sentence coding includes [M] but I can't get it to display. Any suggestions will be very welcome. Many thanks John
  11. Tranferring TMG Data to a 2nd Computer

Thanks to you all for your helpful comments. All I need to do is to get the laptop!! Cheers.
  12. Tranferring TMG Data to a 2nd Computer

Backup/Restore.... Paul, Many thanks for your ultra quick guidance. It's much appreciated. I'm a bit of a novice though computing wise so can I just check I have understood you completly? Currently I back up to my C Drive and then burn a copy onto DVD. Are you now suggesting that I back up to a removable disk, for example a memory stick, and then insert that stick into the Laptop and do a restore from it? If I then make updates on the laptop I would do the same in reverse to restore the Desk Top to the latest data. At any point in time therefore the latest information would be on the Memory Stick and this could still be burnt to a DVD for added security. Sorry if this is awfully basic but your confirmation would be very helpful. Best wishes Precisely...you can transfer to the laptop using a memory stick or a cd/dvd if your laptop has a reader....backup on the desktop and restore on the laptop...if you do any updating on the laptop reverse the procedure...backup on the laptop (to a memory stick) and restore on the desktop... You must have the same version of TMG on both systems.... Paul, Excellent! Thanks again for your superb advice and have a great weekend.

  14. Currently TMG is running on a desk top but I plan to add it to a Laptop for use when at Archives etc. I thought that the way to transfer the data to the Laptop and then to keep the 2 versions aligned was by Export/Import but I can't see exporting in TMG format as one of the options. You can only Import in that format. Am I missing something here, for example I should be doing something completely different!! Any advice will be very welcome.
