  1. Wish List

I'd liketo be able to use nested variable statements' Examples: This statement assumes there will always bre a godmother. <Standing as godmother was [R:Godmother]> <and godfather was [R:Godfather]>. or <Standing as godmother was [R:Godmother].> ,Standing as godfather was [R:Godfather].> Whereas, this statement <Standing as < godmother was [R:Godmother].| godfather was [R:Godfather].|godparents were [R:Godmother] and [R:Godfather].>> The last makes for better reading.

  3. Sentence structure codes

I figured it out. Here's the tag: [:CR:][:TAB:][P] was born < at [M1]> <[D]> <[L]>. <[PF] was delivered by [R:MD]> <[PF] was delivered by [R:Midwife], a midwife> <, was [M4] long> < and weighed [M3]>. <[PFS] birth certificate number is [M2]>. <[W] also witnessed [PFS] birth> Now, another problem cropped up. The last sentence , <[W] also witnessed [PFS] birth>, shows up in the birth tag for an individual as, <[P] aslo witnessed [PFS] birth>. I don't know what happened. Any advise. Vince
  4. Sentence structure codes

Mike, I'm trying to create a compound sentence with multiple conditional variables such that I can remove puncuation if one of the variables is missing as in the example below. By the way, multiple variables in a conditional statement is allowed. I one or both variables are missing, no statement is created according to John Cardinal. <[PF] was [M1]>. <[PF] was [M2] long. [M1] is the birth weight [M2] is length at birth. I'd like to concatinate the two statements and drop the second [PF]. It makes it much more readable. Any Ideas? Vince To all, This is the Birth tag I'm trying to create: Birth Principal: [:CR:][:TAB:][P] was born < at [M1]> <[D]> <[L]>. <[PF] was delivered by [R:MD].> <[PF] was delivered by [R:Midwife], a midwife.> <[PF] weighed [M3].> <[PF] was [M4] long.> <[PFS] birth certificate number is [M2]>. <[W] also witnessed [PFS] birth> Roles: MD <[R:MD] delivered [P]> < at [M1]> < on [D]> < at [L]> Midwife <[R:Midwife], a midwife, delivered [P]> < at [M1]> < on [D]> < at [L]> Memo: [M1] Time of birth [M2] Birth certificate number [M3] Weight at birth [M4] Height at birth [W] All other witnesses other than [MD] & [Midwife]. On all the birth certificates I have seen, ( NY, CT, FL, and TX), none have the birth height. You may omit this part of the sentence if you don't want to search out the information. Example: Principal: Jean PARKER was born at 7:49 am on 12 Jul 2001 at Portland Hospital, 300 Seaside Ave, Portland, New Haven, Connecticut, USA, 06472, 203-555-5555.. Jean (73) was delivered by Dr Jerry GEORGE (708). Jean's birth weight was 3590 grams. Jean's (73) birth certificate number is A 1234567. MD: Dr Jerry GEORGE delivered Jean PARKER at 7:49 am on 12 Jul 2001 at Portland Hospital, 300 Seaside Ave, Portland, New Haven, Connecticut, USA, 06472, 203-555-5555 The midwife statement would be the same except the midwife's name would be substituted and identified as such.. The birth place would be substituted for for the hospital address. Witness statement remains unchanged. I'd like the underlined statements to read: Jean weighed 3590 grams and was 27 inches long. Any help? Vince

  7. ExhibitReport

To all who answered, Thanks for the help. Printing the LastVFI.log gave me a of all the jpg,s that were missing and from what folder, I went to look in those filders and found them empty. All the pictures were in a different folder. I linked the people to their photo's and reran the validation. One of the photos, which is linked to a person, still comes up as not found but the photo was there. It Still comes up missing. Any ideas? Also, a linked citation came up missing. I generally make it a rule not to cite an event unless I have paper in my hand. In this case, it was a WWII enlistment record. I did a list of Citations where the Source was [?]. I ID'd the source number and ran the list. I got 4 hits. All but 1 had the citation shown. That one had nothing, no frown face, just a blank area where the citation exhibit would be. Is that normal? Vince
  8. ExhibitReport

Recently, after the backup function was finished, a message came on the screen that said the backup was sucessful and an error was found, 12 external exhibits could not be found. I've got about 1000 entries to check. Is there any way to create a report that could tell me which exhibits are missing or do I have to go thru the entire database. Is this a wishlist item? I ran the validity check. It told me the same thing but didn't tell me where.

To all, I would like to thank all of you for your help in pointing out things I should have seen but didn't. Vince
  10. Creating a new cemetery report

Virginia, Those options don't show up anywhere in the Report function for this list. But I found the problem. When you set up a Name and Address report, which this is, I assumed you would use Birth Tag Place Detail 2 for the street address. That's wrong. You have to use Birth tag Place Detail. Anything else shows up as blank. Now that I don't understand. I thought (1) was Addressee, (2) Street Address, etc. Was I wrong? Vince
  11. Creating a new cemetery report

Screenshots here. Scroll down to see. I have reset the Output Columns in Options to look like this: Name group#tag =Given Last Name Birth group*tag = Birth detail 2 Birth city Birth state Birth zip Birth phone The only thing that will not come up on the report is Birth detail 2, the street address. Vince
  12. Master Source List

Why do that? The default setting is 'All citations' rather than 'Filtered'. No filter is required to show all citations. You only use a filter when you need to show a subset. Never thought about that. Thanks Vince
  13. I am trying to create a report listing all the cemeteries and their addresses in my dataset. The cemeteries were created as unrelated people so I could use them as [P2] for burials (The idea was not mine. Thank you to whoever it was. It let's me keep track of who is burried where.) This is the setup: I went to Add/Unrelated Gender/Unknown Entered the cemetery name with Cemetery acting as Surname Each cemetery has a Birth tag. The tag contains the date the cemetry opened, name of the cemetery (addressee), Street address (detail), city, county, state, zip, phone no. I went to Report/List of.. and created a new list called List of Cemeteries. filter Surname = Cemetery END Next I went to Options/Output Columns. I selected: Birth group*tag ; Addressee Place City State Postal I test the layout by selecting Print Preview. This is the result. List of Selected People Birth Addressee----- Birth Place--------- Birth City---------- Birth State--------- Birth Postal-------- San Antonio, Bexar, San Antonio Texas North Street, Rye, W Rye New York 23 Cottage Pl, Bloom Bloomfield New Jersey Rye, Westchester, New York Webster Ave & 233rd Bronx New York 10470 Calvery Cemetery Calvery Cemetery, 49 Woodside New York 11377-7396 Printed on: 15 Feb 2009 Prepared by: Vincent J Castelli III 24 C Happy Hollow Cir Stratford, Ct 06614-8412 genealogy411@att.net 203-913-5908 You'll notice that only one cemetery name shows on the report and only 6 addresses show. There are 18 cemeteries in my dataset, all with the complete birth tags. Did I do something wrong? I've made different lists before with no problems. Please help. Vince. P.S. I have .jpg's (screenshots) of the screens in the report section and the Birth tag for one of the cemeteries if you want to see what I set up. Vince
  14. Master Source List

If you want a list of all the citations and who they are associaterd with, try this: List of Citations Report filter Source Number > is greater than 0 AND Source Number < is less than 999 The less than number should be at least 1 larger than your biggest source number. Vince
  15. Can no longer upload attachments to TMG forums

Virginia, Sorry. My message didn't quite answer your respone. The forum is the TMG7 forum. The questyion I had was: I'm trying to create a list of cemeteries including addresses only. What I got in my report was the name of one cemetery and addresses for 5 cemeteries. There 18 cemeteries listed in my files. The .jpg files show the initial report window with the name of the list, the filter window with the filter settings, the option window with the primary output settings and a copy of the output. Thanks Vince
