  1. Could you print to a pseudo printer like PDF 995, Bullzip, PDF Creator - and take that pdf file to the other computer? There are instructions in the forum for printing to a PDF printer (see pinned message at top of this forum). Virginia
  2. Phyl - The list at the bottom is of last used projects. As Jim said, use File/Open (Ctrl-O) to open a project in the v9 projects folder. Virginia
  3. Exhibit Folder Path in v9 Different Than in v8

VFI is on the top menu: File / Maintenance / Validate File Integrity. For more information, see Help / Validate File Integrity. Virginia
  4. display of extra tag lines in mousing over fields

wtishey Those are 'Item tips.' Preferences / Program Options / Item tips. Virginia
  5. Import FTM: "Invalid Path or Filename"

Eric - You may find helpful the tips on Customizing your TMG Workspace here. And many examples of customized user layouts here. Virginia
  6. Project Explorer 'jumping' current person

Bonita - That sounds like an ambitious project; no wonder the PE jumping around is a problem. If unlinking the PE does in fact cut down on the jumping, it is a quick extra step in the unlinked PE to switch to the selected person: In the PE - Leftclick / Rightclick / C Leftclick (selects person) - Rightclick (opens menu) - press C on keyboard to change to that person I use the mouse to leftclick / rightclick - then press C (lowercase is fine) with my other hand. 7. Sever Issues with TMG 9

You used Restore to restore a .sqz file of your v7 project in v9? If you wanted to add another project, you would use File / New Project (or the New button on the Welcome screen). The Data Set Manager is used to add a new Data Set to your existing project. Do you want to Import a GEDCOM into a new project? Virginia
  8. Project Explorer 'jumping' current person

If the names are in the Focus Group, do you need to have the PE linked for what you are doing (rightclick to unlink)? Virginia
  9. Patt - I don't know how it is 'supposed to work'. VCF is a separate program from TMG. Apparently that is how it is presenting your data - so the only recourse I see is to work around it. Virginia
  10. Patt - Barbara has a Father. He is Unknown and a Male. You could enter her father in the database as Unknown Person - with no marriage/spouse connection with Brigitta (liaison maybe?). Or on the chart, edit boxes for Barbara's Father and Mother lines so Father is in expected position. Maybe type 'Father unknown' in father box. Virginia
  11. Patt - On the Person view of Barbara in TMG, under her name at the top - do her father (Unknown) and Mother appear below - Father first and Mother Briggita below him in the usual arrangement? Virginia
  12. Export to gedcom

Marlene - Close any other programs that are running. Dropbox is often mentioned, but it could be an anti-virus or other program that is interfering. Virginia
  13. TMG V-9

You could label them using the Layout toolbar. Open the Layout toolbar (docked or floating) in each version. Save the layout in each version with the version name. In a split window they would look like this: Virginia
  14. Font Size in TMG Windows

Paul - I am not seeing those differences. Not the 5/6 method of window resizing? Virginia
  15. MS Word task report with thousands of pages

I could not read or see your message yesterday either - maybe there was a problem with the forum database that garbled it. A lot of those 51 views were probably me trying to view your posting and getting an error message . Anyway, it's good to see your message came through today. And also good that the RTF output of the filtered List of Tasks does work and open in Word 2007. If you want to venture into those .doc waters again with the task list, you might try deleting the report definition for the List of Tasks and start with a clean slate. Do you have the same problem with an unfiltered list of tasks? Word 2007 is a little long in the tooth. Maybe the fact that .rtf works and .doc does not is because of differences in .doc coding in current TMG versions. Virginia
  16. errors during merge of two datasets

Gathering Threads - Did you start with 3000 people in the Focus Group with the goal of adding the ancestors and descendents and spouses for each of those 3000 people? Virginia
  17. Problems after installing TMG on a new laptop

Jim - There has been a problem with Win8 removing the v8 registration information. You can try rightclicking on the TMG icon and running one time (one time only) as Administrator and see if that solves the problem permanently. If not, there is a more complicated fix in the message here. Re gridlines: Preferences / Program Options / Lists. Virginia
  18. TMG V-9

I am another user like you and have no knowledge of future plans. There was a thread here a few months ago in which it was indicated there were no plans at that time. Virginia
  19. TMG V-9

No. TMG v9 does not sync with family search family tree. Virginia
  20. Robin - I don't know why the mother/father bio tags appear in the Details view and also in the Father/Mother slots. Did you import this project from another program? Virginia
  21. Missing Source

Jim - It can be easier to find things in the Master Source List if you are aware of the differences between the More and Less views and how the Source information is displayed in each view. Here is a side-by-side view: Virginia
  22. Suddenly Lost PDF printer

In your computer, go to Start / Devices and Printers and rightclick on that WG printer icon. See if there is something in the queue (click on that option and delete the queue), or maybe try the troubleshooting option. Virginia
  23. Robin - Your Father and Mother bio tags are good. I can see where the parent entries in that particular family are confusing in the Details view. In that family, the Mother and Father -candidate tags refer to possible parents of the subject of the chart, Benjamin. His parents are unknown - and those possible parents are noted in his Details view only for research purposes. Those -can tags are not marked as primary. If I made a descendent box chart of one of his possible fathers, Benjamin would not appear on that chart - because there is no primary relationship with that father candidate. If Benjamin's parents were known (and their relationship tags in the Details view were primary), they would appear correctly at the top of the Details view in the Father/Mother fields under Benjamin's name. Below is a screenshot of the Detail view of Benjamin's daughter - who appears correctly in Benjamin's descendant chart with her parents. Your chart children's relationship tags - son-bio, dau-bio - should be marked Primary and then their parents should appear at the top of the Details view in the Parent fields. Is that what you are seeing now? The marriage tags should also be Primary. Hope this helps - Virginia
  24. The only reason I can think of why the children do not appear is because there are some non-primary relationships or problematic surety settings. Below is a simple example of a descendent box chart of a husband, 2 wives and the children of one wife. I have also included the details view of the husband - showing the asterisked (alternatively bolded) primary designations - critical for a box chart. The descendent indented chart does not have the requirement for primariness. Virginia
  25. Simon - You may want to update to v8.08 (or try the trial version of v9, out today) to see if the problem persists. Note, if you use Dropbox, that you risk data corruption if project files are synced as you work. Backups can be stored on Dropbox. Virginia
