I am a bit concerned about your method of creating a new project - making multiple copies of your master project and pruning each of them to the people you wish to retain in each project, rather than using the List of People Secondary Output. Perhaps someone with more experience here would comment on the pros and cons of your method and any possible pitfalls.. I do see why you would wish to renumber the people in those projects because otherwise they would appear to be a rather disorderly hodgepodge, retaining their ID's from the original project.

Rightclick while in the Details view and halfway down that menu are Filter options. Un-tick any filter that is selected.

Also in the Details view, highlight the tag you want to make primary and press Shift-F8 (the asterisk). You can also use the yellow asterisk icon on the Tag Box toolbar if you have that toolbar in your layout.

The Properties button (not a tab) is on the middle right side of the main Report Definition Screen - in the Report Destination area. When you click on that button you get the Printer setup screen where you can set the report orientation (Portrait or Landscape) and the margins (only 2 options in v7).

You can download the v8 30-day trial version and have a look at it. It is separate from v7 and both can run on the same machine.

The FGS in v8 is a bit different from v7 - tabular and you can use colors. You can see examples here.

Have you checked the margin options on the Properties tab on the report definition screen in TMG? In v7 the margins settings are the same for both Left and Right - no option for a different margin on the right than the left, which I assume is what you want. The new report writer in TMG v8 does offer a full range of margin settings for either side.

Is there a second phrase (with the details) associated with the 'Record is out of Range' error message? The error messages are saved in the error.txt file in your Logs folder: In v8, on the TMG top menu Help > Access Folders / Logs folder / error.txt. The messages are dated and time-stamped.

Are you using custom screen font settings on the computer with the problem?

It is strongly recommended that your project files not be stored in a synced Dropbox folder because of the risk of corruption. This applies to all cloud service syncing and the problem has been observed in other genealogy software.. As you work in your project and data is being exchanged between the 100 or so files in your open project, any lag or glitch in sync transmission can be damaging. Only your backup .sqz files should be stored in a Dropbox folder. Your problem may not be related to the syncing, but it is safer to avoid it.

Contact support (support@whollygenes.com) and see if they can repair your project.

What is the error you get about the default exhibit folder? Is the path for your Exhibit folder current in Preferences / Current Project Options / Advanced?

Could it be that the surety settings in the VCF chart options are different from those in the Descendant Indented Chart report?

The Unknown Person problem is often associated with surety settings. To include everyone in the chart, the surety settings in the Chart options (Chart Options / Other / Surety) for both 'No Threshold' and 'Include blank surety' should be ticked.

I question whether your problem is related to your initial registration entry or perhaps to a problem with TMG and Win8. The problem of loss of registration between TMG sessions when using Win8 has been reported in early versions of TMG v8; it has since been fixed. I have not heard of the problem in TMG v7, but Jim will be able to advise you on that. Have you considered upgrading to TMG v8?

I assume this is a UK style top-to-bottom chart - very long and narrow from your measurements. One work-around for a chart that long (which requires a very long wall - with no doors or windows - to display) is to make a chart with 2 generations. Color code each of the children in that second generation and create a separate color-coded chart for each of those lines. This has an additional advantage of giving reunion participants, for example, an opportunity to have printed a chart of their own line. There is an example in the forum thread here.

Re the Pedigree Chart on the Report menu (not a VCF chart) . You should be able to save that report to any of the Save options with no problems. For PDF, you do want to make sure you have the PDF printer installed (File / Printer setup), and if you still have problems, try resetting the report defaults - using the Reset Defaults button under the configuration name.

With VCF charts, your only Save options in the created chart are as a .vc2 chart file.. You can save as a .jpg if you use the Save to: destination (not viewing the chart). You also have options using File > Export in the VCF chart to save the file as an image file. You can also, in VCF, print to one of the free PDF Printers - like CutePDF or PDF995, to get a pdf file. Let us know if you want help with that.
