    Hi Virginia.

    Thank you for these links. I googled printing and pixels and enough to do your head in. I am waiting for my typesetter to get back. I know about pixels in my photos.

     

    The colours in version 8 are different than the example. Just have a choice of colours as in word. However I see where to increase the pixels once I know what my typesetter wants . I will do the descendants charts with adjustment in pixels and use the template that was made for me in excel at the beginning of chapter. More work. but....I can out source it. I don't use all functions in TMG.

    The typesetter prints a lot of charts in her publication that are done in excel. I think this is the way to go with so many children. I need 3cm margins all around to fit into the designers template.

    As for FGS. Example, useful for info taking out header and footer. Then for the rest is very easy to adjust in word rather than TMG. Still an option.

     

    The dimensions of the book is A4 with 3cm margins side and top.

    Hi Virginia. I am using these as well at the end of each family. This is just to put opposite each family chapter and very basic. Just a snapshot, albeit I would have liked something fancy. There is no space for anything else. I am looking at 16 children in one family and 15 in several others. We have come up with an excel in landscape with two columns and to number each child and bdm's and spouse.

     

    But if I do go to family group sheets do you know anything about the dpi of the lines? I also have to find out how to make the descendants lines bolder.

    Thank you for your reply. Yes I just wanted to see if any are samples and as I said in an edit I did find it in TMG. I have put this link above in favourites. I didn't want to go through all the videos to see the end result. Also I have too many people in my lines. I wasn't able to solve my problem but may get some ideas as I go through it.

     

    IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT LOW RESOLUTION DESCENDANT LINES.

    But one important thing I found out from one of the links in above, is that the dpi of the lines is only 96 or 76 dpi.(I forget) I am having my book professionally printed and photos must be a min of 300 dpi so internet photos have this same low resolution so must be checked. But I never thought about my descendants indented charts. These will have to be changed as well. Invaluable information hidden away.

     

    Now what about family group sheets Jim? If I decide to go this way is there anything I need to know about dpi of the charts. I imagine they may be problematic. I will have to change the margins too..

    Firstly I have just read that TMG is discontinued!!

     

     

    I want to see examples of charts. I have avoided these as I only have a small page to produce. A4 with margins set by the typesetter. I only want basic chart for each family showing children and their spouses and number of children.. Most of my families have over 15 children. So before each family I want to provide a outline. I have tried excel but can't fit them in on the one page.

    I have also tried word but that is harder to set up with lines in columns. Whatever chart I use needs to be provided in PDF format.

     

    I am in the sample at the moment and I thought I would be able to get more information but it is the same.

     

    So where can I see an example of each chart please?

    I see there are videos but want to see what they look like without going through this process.

     

     

    I just found report samples thanks . None can be adjusted because of the number of children and my page limitations. But if anyone has any ideas using another programme I would appreciate the advice please

    I have forgotten this simple thing. The children show both mother and father. But I can only see the father in the person view. I have husband and wife showing in a family view when I look at husband and again when I look at the wife. How can I marry them up again please? Their numbers are consecutive and were done many years ago.

    Silly I know but......

    I went into a dozen random marriages and bought up the tag entry window and looked in the tag type list. It is set at marriage Marriage ( with symbol that I cant create here ) M). That is my only marriage option. Partner is not selected.

    .

    What I cannot understand is that it seems almost impossible to create a partner tag in this type of chart as it is not an option. Family group sheet is ok and there is no problem with descendancy indented narrative report. All marriages showing as they should be.

     

    I went to programs and tried to do a repair and it wants to install.

     

    I also did reports for many different families and it is the same problem. I cant understand how it could suddenly change and I have never seen this problem in over 10 years using TMG from the release of version 4. (Nevertheless despite using the software for all this time I am not an expert). Is there any other way to look at marriage tags? I also went into tools and looked at the tag list and only the one type of marriage tag.

    Hell Robin

     

    That also occurred to me although I forgot to mention it. Thanks for reminding me. I tried to change it but it was so complicated. It does say it comes from a third party although it was sent by my name, (at the very end) people may not have seen this. Also although some people don't know me that well others are close relations or people who do know me. I will ask the company when they ring me . Meanwhile I have another day to wait because of the time difference, I am about to put my head in an oven!!.

    PS. Yes have stacks of space left on the PC. I have only used a fraction as the computer is reasonably new. I was told to defrag and I have that scheduled. I know this wasn't recommended years ago but apparently now it is a good thing to do .I recall I had to close manually because I couldn't get the task manager to open as the autoresponse was hanging but didn't drop out. It virtually froze my other programmes. It went on for an hour before I took this step..

    Hello Robin

    I have found that any technical problems with TMGW seems to right themselves and its generally me - the user. I used the cleaner and it took 5 hours but still have a problem with "get response". It gets hung up and then drops out and now I have 37 unopened family book contacts. I have been 6 weeks cleaning my subscriber list and recontacting everyone and now "get response" sent out my newsletter with skewed photos although they looked good my end. I think they are going to blame my computer but TMGW is good now. I have had it open most days while working on the newsletter so no doubt something to do with the autoresponder. I can now check my internet speed and it is still good.

    Although I was part of the first group of TMGW users in our great land I got left behind as far as understanding it goes. Support, especially through Virginia has been so crucial to me. Thanks for recommending CCleaner.

    Yes I think you are right because I am have huge problems with and autoresponder and keep getting hung up and timed out. I just got the report today. ISP checked the speed and it is good as it can be here with our outdated network as you know. I think I need an overhaul. Not me the computer. Well me too.

    Using V8- 64 bit Windows 7.

     

    I am not installing new software and out of the blue I went to do a report and I just got 'hung up" (kept working) and then error to say there ws a problem and windows looking for solution. I had used it only yesterday.

     

    Went into programmes and did a repair. Got the message "error opening installation log file verify that the specified log file location exists that you can write to"

    Looked at log file and there are error messages there going back a long time but not today.

     

    .

    Also when I tried another report it said one was open and retry but it wasn't. I then closed everything down and reopend TMG.

    I only have this window and tmg open.

    Did a shut down and problem still there.

     

    Can anyone help please. Single user computer.

    Thanks for the extra information Virginia. I was able to change it.

     

    "like this" button. Also there is a fault on the site .I logged on and went to your answer and clicked on "like this" button and I got a pop up message saying You have reached your quota of positive votes for the day". I have only just turned the computer on and havent used like this before and havent been on the site for months. I realise "today" may be yesterday for me but never used it.

    The abbreviation for the Death event is set on the General tab of the Tag Type Definition screen. By default, the abbreviation is "d.".

     

    What report are you running and what setting is used so that abbreviations are used?

    I am running a descendant indented chart. What do you mean by< what setting is used so that abbreviations are used?>? I just use send to word and file name. Nothing different.

     

    In the general tab I just have report title, output language, number of generationsand blank sureity and no threshold. The only other field to change is the name and address of the sender/creator of the report. No other fields relate to tags.

     

    Under tags I just have birth death marriage buria ticked. I cant see anything that shows me what abbrieviations I am going to get with this chart. I just know it is never dea. I dont kow much about this version. Has it changed?
