  1. exhibit view

Thank you Terry and Michael again. You have both made me think again about why I am trying to do it - ?? kindest regards Roland
  2. exhibit view

Thank you Terry and Michael for your prompt feedback. I have just been testing most of your suggestions and none are quite right for what I 'think' I want to do - perhaps there is no solution. At the moment I have as my source record a general heading - UK 1851 census, etc... that I use to cite for each tag that I have added the information - residence and occupation mostly - on the date of the census (30 Mar 1851). I then copied the tag for each person at that residence (which just meant changing the id number). Originally, I transcribed the census data from my visits to the UK records office. I have recently trawled through the census websites to download images of the census data in order to check my information and to keep a computerised version of my whole research. If I now want to attach the 'image' of the census entry to its source, then I would have to create a source for each address - which is one route, but would expand my number of source records dramatically. Also in the person view, the exhibits column is not ticked. I also tried the witness route (having children as witnesses to the main entry of residence for father and mother) and thought that this might be the answer. The tag appears as residence for these witnesses - but does not export via GEDCOM as residence (or anything!). I do correspond with other relations around the world and we sometimes pass our files around - unfortunately they are not all using TMG - so GEDCOM is the only route. (I will probaby use the witness route for group photos at weddings, etc as this would suit better) Why do I use residence as my main census tag, you might ask ..... well probably I didn't understand the consequences when I first started using TMG some 5 years ago and probably because the places that my extended family were born, lived, etc was my main interest. (I even recently bought FTM for its mapping feature - but disappointed so far. I also have Family historian for the 'all relatives' tree function - which is really good for an overview). Anyway I digress .... what I was trying to achieve was to externally link the census image for each address to multiple people so that there is only one 'thumbnail'. Any further ideas please?
  3. exhibit view

Hi - this is sort of a follow on question ..... I have saved a number of census records that I wish to attach as exhibits to multiple people - ie one family at the same address needs only one census record/exhibit. My tag has been residence for each member of the household (I copied the first entry and changed the id). Is there a way to do this please (one exhibit for multiple people or events)? I did look in 'help' and couldn't see anything - but sorry if I missed it. thanks Roland
  4. exhibit view

Thanks Jim, I have created a custom layout to view all my windows at the same time. Roland
  5. exhibit view

Thank You Virginia for your prompt response. I still have a lot to learn about all the features available ....... Roland
  6. exhibit view

Hi. I have been scanning the forums and found a number of references to viewing exhibits and I understand that exhibits can be attached to person, event, etc. I have just upgraded to v7 and so thought it about time to attach some photos, certificates, etc and to make things easier, I added the exhibit view (image thumbnail) window to my main layout - so I have person detail (in addition to project explorer, flag, siblings and children to give me a 'one view') so that I could easily (I thought) see when I had any exhibits associated with that person (and events that this person was part of). The answers that I have found indicate that the only exhibits that will be visible in my new exhibit view window will be those associated with the person (and not events) - OK that is how it is..... I was wondering though is there a way that some indication can be shown against the event (tick, icon, etc) that an exhibit is available. I understand that if I open the exhibit log for that person I will see all exhibits - but it was the 'one view' that I was seeking. Any help greatly appreciated?? Roland
  7. date format

Thanks Robin, but again no luck. Might be this date modifier (?) but I exported a list of post 1900 dates (I want to find out what records I have changed and when) and the list seems to be sorted on length - not even the year is correct. regards Roland
  8. date format

thank you Jim, but that still doesn't give me a date format that is recognised in an excel spreadsheet for sorting (unless there is another screen that I have missed somewhere??) regards Roland
  9. date format

I am trying to export a report that inclues dates into excel and would like to then sort on the date column. The main reason is that I am passing information to a number of cousins from different branches and I am updating details as I research them. I would then like to use the last updated date as an indicator to only pass on the individual information updated since I last contacted them. I can see that there are options to change the date format in some reports - but not the 'list of' one - which would be the most useful for my exercise. Any suggestions please?
  10. ID numbering in people report

Thanks Terry, that will do for my little task. regards Roland
  11. ID numbering in people report

I am trying to have a combined people report of two datasets (mine and a locked one from a cousin). I have added his data into my project and now have two ID numbers for the same people - in different databases. I then opened both databases and can see (in project manager) all entries. I tried running a people report so that I could do a comparison (ie his ID number 203 = my ID number 44, etc) so that we can inform each other when we now make changes. I can run the report but I was hoping that the ID numbering system would show the different databases (two entries for the same name but with a prefix of the database ie 2:203 and 1:44) - but the prefix is missing. I could not see anything in the options. Any suggestions please?
