  1. Post has not appeared on a forum

Jim, The posting I tried to make to the calender some weeks ago suddenly showed up today. Before I saw your post above I thought that you had "fixed" my post. Now I'm still confused. My problem is that for the last two quarterly meetings I have tried to post the meeting details to the Calendar (multiple times) with almost no success. Cheers, Neil

Jim, Do you look after the Calender as well? I'm finding it to be a "black hole". I have just about given up trying to post the details of our next User Group Meeting. Cheers, Neil Bradley
  3. Judy At the risk of looking silly (this may be one of those instances where everyone else already knows and it has only just dawned on me) ... I make extensive use of filters under the Project Explorer and also the additional capabilities in the List of People Report. It was only finding Paul's comment that opened my eyes to the significant filtering capabilities available within the List of Events Report which (I don't think) exist anywhere else. The two specific issues that I was able to search for using variations of Paul's suggested fliter were :- - people with both a non-primary bith and also a primary birth (I know that this is quite valid in many circumstances but in my friend's database it was just poor data control - probably from an old import which hadn't been cleansed.) - people who had both a primary and non-primary father & son relationship "son-bio", i.e. duplicate tags. I'm still not entirely sure how my friend managed that feat. I couldn't work out how to filter for either of these two issues before I discovered to joys of the List of Events Report. Since then I have discovered that the Date searching capability within the list of events allows you to filter on the day / month / year as seperate components which for me means that I can isolate all Deaths where I have the Year but not the full date (for example). I also plan to make use of being able to filter on Custom Flags values set for a Parent or a Spouse. As I said at the top, everyone else may well know all this already. Cheers, Neil
  4. Adding children

Bob, When you see the son or daughter duplicated from the parent view ie son-bio tag appears twice, is one of the tags marked as primary (*) and the other non-primary (no *)? I have seen this in someone else's database and we were able to fix the problem by deleting the non-primary son-bio tag. The list of events report has options that will allow you to search for any other occurences. Doesn't answer the question though - how did it happen? I've tried everything I can think of and haven't been able to replicate the issue. Cheers, Neil Bradley
  5. Paul I know that this is a very old posting of yours but it has just helped me solve two issues which I thought were unsolvable. The List of Events report has hidden powers which with your guidance I am now starting to make use of. Neil Bradley West Aust
  6. Relative Path Statements

I agree that it is a great idea. However, if Wholly Genes did find a way to implement it they may need to make it optional. Many members of our User Group would struggle with the concept. Neil Bradley
  7. Whenever I make a significant number of changes to my database, I have a small subset of co-researchers that I like to keep updated. My current method is to use the "last edit date" usually in combination with the List of People report where I can isolate people who have events linked to whatever sources I have been updating from lately. This process works quite well for me (although I am open to better ideas), however, I also use Flags extensively. My problem is that whenever a flag is changed the "last edit date" changes. What I would like (wishlist) is to perhaps have a "Preferences" option which could turn off the update of the Last Edit Date when a flag is changed. Neil Bradley Western Australia
  8. Last Edit Date & Flags

Lorna I use custom flags manually when I am checking sets of data to record people that have been checked and hence should be excluded from the filter. It is these flags changes that update the "last edit date" and cause me issues. Cheer, Neil
  9. Calendar Updates

It appears that User Group Co-Ordinators no longer have permission to update the calendar. Refer to the postings in the User Group Co-Ordinators' forum. Is there a new process that we have to work through to add calendar events? Neil Bradley Perth - Western Australia
  10. I have created a custom Tag in the Other Group called Honours. It originally had a default sentence which produced the result below. He was Honours on 13 Oct 1917 at Ypres, Belgium; Distinguished Conduct Medal In order to try and get a more meaningful output I have changed the sentence in the Master Tag Type list and also (in desperation) on the Honours Tag of my test person to the one below. [P] <was awarded the [M1]> <[D]> <[L]> <[M2]> However, I'm still getting the original sentence output when I run an Individual Narrative. Can someone please help me with what I am missing. 11. Sentence Help Needed

Thanks Lorna Language was the answer Neil
  12. TMG UK Version Support Forum

I notice that the UK Support Forum is still advertising Version 5 in its intro section. Isn't that a tad out of date? Neil Bradley West Australia
  13. Morrie If you imported your project from another tool (eg FTM) then one possibility is that your places could be stored in the memo field and not in the TMG Place fields. Cheers, Neil
  14. This is probably a topic to not wade into too strongly as I'm sure that there are multiple views which is of course one of the beauties of TMG. When I converted my data over from FTM a few years ago I was quite excited about the ability to use married names precisely for the reason that either John or Terry suggested - checking death and burial records. I have 25,000 names so I used John's excellent utility to add them. Recently I have spend a lot of time trying to tidy up Marriage sort dates in my system to facilitate filter checks against on-line data available in Western Australia. As part of this tidy up I have decided that for me, the Expanded Picklist gives me enough help to find women via their husband's name and I have now removed all of my married names. It was too easy fix me to fix a male's marriage sort date and then forget to look at his wife and also fix her married name sort date. I'm happier with my "cleaner" database but it is just a personal preference. Neil Bradley
