  1. Thank you for the feedback.

I like both the Journal and Ahnentafel reports. When I print as pdf, it shows the source numbers but does not give me a list of endnotes / sources.

I have tried printing as a Word doc, but I get 2 errors:

    1. WordPort error, with exclamation mark.

    then

    2. Conversion error #20: unknown error - contact tech support.

  2. Despite having had TMG for several years, I still struggle with compiling unique reports. Once again, I am hoping the forum members can help me.

I am looking to create a list of ancestors [of a specific person, not the entire database] with a list of the sources of the birth, marriage, deaths.

I'm looking for a list to help me see better which primary sources I have / lack.

    Thanks. Cindy

  3. I was full of hope after finding your post for I too have the problem of no pdf reports, but on a 32 bit system, not 64 bit, after upgrading to Windows 7 from Vista SP2. My understanding is that the pdf writer should work on 32 bit systems but mine doesn't. I've followed your procedure, several times in fact, but still no pdf reports. The file > printer setup > install pdf printer > route tells me the pdf printer is already installed. But every attempt results in 'Printer not activated, error code - 20'. Control Panel > Devices & Printers > etc confirms the Wholly Genes PDF printer is unavailable. The NewPort seems OK and is checked. Im at a loss. Don Gunn

I am on a 64-bit system with Windows 7 and have followed the above steps numerous times also. I am getting the same error code -20 message that Donald gets.

  4. It has not been a good weekend. I had to do a clean install of Windows 7 due to compatibility issues with the RC. The computer kept crashing when I used the USB drives, so I wasn't able to back-up hardly anything. In my final attempt to save something, I saved the current TMG file, as a .sqz file. My most important file.

I have since installed TMG & opened this file & all appears well. :) But in the projects folder in TMG, I should have the .sdf file, correct? It's not there.

Can I convert the .sqz file to a .sdf file?

What am I doing wrong? Or am I looking in the wrong place???

    Thanks, Cindy

  5. Hi Cindy,

This is easy with the List of Sources report. If in the Options on the General tab you choose the Columnar List type, one of the Output Columns on that tab that you can choose to print is "# of Exhibits".

You can even print a filtered List of Sources report, and the filter could be:

Number of Exhibits // is greater than // 0 // END

    Hope this gives you ideas,

Yes, easy with step-by-step instructions. This is what I was looking for but I never would have found this on my own.

    Thanks.

    Cindy

  6. List of People

    filter

    Death... Date Is empty END

I don't really think that you want to exclude a person born 200 years ago with no death date.

TMG Utility has some tools to set the Living flag for people who are dead by any reasonable consideration.

    http://www.johncardinal.com/tmgutil/

EXACTLY! I do NOT want to exclude someone born 200 years ago. I have TMG Utility but obviously not using that as I should be. I changed the Living flag to 1888, 120 years prior to current year, as John recommends. But I got a report that lists some people with known death dates.

The Living Flag is enabled in TMG. Any ideas?

    Thanks so much.

  7. I have been working on the family genealogy on & off for 30 years & have been using TMG for about 5 years. I still feel like a beginner with this program!

Due to inexperience with inputting information early on, in previous programs, I want to 'clean up' my file to ensure that it is as accurate as possible. I have done a 'validate file integrity' and I'm still working on that list.

I have recently created a website using John Cardinal's Second Site. On the website, I have omitted all living persons for privacy reasons. To be sure that I have included everyone possible, how can I create a list of people who are lacking a death date? [if they lack a death date, they will not be listed on the web site].

For anyone wishing to glance at the site, constructive criticism gladly accepted and appreciated!

    Thanks, Cindy

  8. Let me start by saying that I am still a rookie with TMG. That being said, please reply to me at the level of a 4th grader.

I have imported a rather large genealogy, with over 2000 names, so I do not want to re-input the information. I currently use the automatic relationship tag to give me a better understanding of the family. This has also helped me find errors.

For example, I was looking at a GGM, then her mother, but on this person it stated no blood relationship. I know there is a blood relationship. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong & how to fix this?

    Thanks from a TMG newbie.

  9. OK. I thought I was good with computers but I guess I need to go at the VERY beginner stage for TMG. I have tried using OTD, based on the recommendations, & I get no where. The 1st tme I ran it I got up to 10 events per day, based on the number of people in my genealogy. Now I get 0.

One question - for ancestor or descendant interest, the values are set at 0, 1, 2, 3. I don't follow... I understand the other flag values.

Will you please tell me in very simple terms, for someone who does not understand TMG [yet], how to create a calendar based on descendants of 1 person, say #555?

A big thank you to those who have tried to help me. I now see that I need to step back to learn the program more so I can take better advantage of all, or more, that TMG has to offer.

    Again, thanks,

    Cindy

  10. I am somewhat new to TMG - I still consider myself at the beginner stage anyhow. So please keep this in mind with answers. Thanks. :-)

Ultimately, I would like to create some calendars for Christmas, to keep family members interested in the family genealogy throughout the year. I'd like to use various old photos as graphics & have current birthdates & anniversaries in 1 font and birthdates, anniversaries, & death dates of deceased members in a different font. Thus far, I do not see any way to directly transfer information to do this, so I'm thinking of manually inputting information from 1 ancestry line into a calendar so I can print it. So...how can I print a list of names with birth, marriage, death dates for ancestors of 1 person? :(

    THANK YOU!
