  1. GOTERM and other problems

Help topic is very clear on this the Data_paths.txt file should be in the The Master Genealogist v7 program folder. Once you setup the Data_paths.txt file and start TMG the folders will be created in the path(s) specified in the Data_paths.txt file. TMG will create the folders you shouldn't have to. You probably don't need specify anything other than the user data path [username] UserData=C:\Users\username\Documents\The Master Genealogist v7 The folders/files in the SharedProgramData path and the UserProgramData path have probably already been created. If you don't see them they are hidden. Use the folder options to show them.
  2. GOTERM and other problems

I just finished updating to Parallels 5, but still running Win XP Pro it appears Parallels 5 uses the same scheme to map the Windows My Documents folder to the MAC documents folder. It is NECESSARY that you use a data_paths.txt file You have to store your projects in the Windows file system NOT the OS X file system Please read the TMG help topic Customizing Data File Storage. Follow the examples given for Windows Vista See my post of 17 Jun 2008, 08:51 AM above My data_paths.txt file is very simple [Glenn] UserData=C:\Documents and Settings\Glenn\My Documents\The Master Genealogist v7\ For Vista & 7 it would be [username] UserData=C:\Users\username\Documents\The Master Genealogist v7 replace username with your Windows 7 account name Your project files should be in C:\Users\username\Documents\The Master Genealogist v7\Projects You probably can experiment with the location of exhibits. When navigating to your project folders you can't navigate from the Win Start menu because the Documents button is redirected to the the Mac Document folder, you have to navigate using Computer, then Local Disk C > Users > username > Documents > The Master Genealogist v7 > Projects. You can save your backup .sqz files in the Mac Documents folder so they get backed up with Time Machine, but project files MUST be located in the Windows file system. On the Virtual Machine Configuration, General window you can choose to back up the VM with Time Machine, but I believe that will backup the entire VM not just data files.
  3. Shouldn't the path use all back slashes \ "c:\windows\profiles\crossover\my documents\the master genealogist v7\exhibits" Not ... /exhibits Alternately this may be a question for Crossover Support
  4. Windows 7 - Slowdown

Boot Camp, is a dual boot setup, you will run either OS X or Windows. If you want to run both OS X and Windows simultaneously VMWare Fusion or Parallels allow you to create Virtual Machines. There are open source virtualization programs available as well. For some of the issues involved in running TMG in a virtual machine see the thread GOTERM and other problems
  5. GOTERM and other problems

genejunky - you didn't mention having created a data_paths.txt file, you might want to give that a try. Read the help topic Customizing Data File Storage. I think Win 7 uses the same shared program data and user program data paths as Vista so follow the examples for Vista, adjusting paths as necessary for your user data folder. Please let us know if the data-paths.txt file works for Fusion, this will help others using TMG in this type of environment
  6. You are welcome Mike If you like Internet Explorer you might like IE7Pro http://www.ie7pro.com/ I prefer Firefox, Opera is nice too.
  7. IE 8 Tools > Internet Options > Advanced tab > Multimedia > Enable automatic image resizing - deselect The Multimedia section is quite a way down the list so scroll down until you find it.
  8. TMG 7 in in snow leopard via crossover

I upgraded to Snow Leopard last week, but I use Parallels, they did a version update the day after Snow Leopard was released. Upgrade went smoothly and have not had any problems. CodeWeavers says: CrossOver Releases older than 8.0 will not function on Snow Leopard (10.6.x) CrossOver Mac System Requirements
  9. Embedding HTML

Interesting, I probably would have added the GA script manually after generating the pages, but if you have a lot to do embedding in a tag seems a way to get it done quickly and automatically if the process doesn't break the script.
  10. Embedding HTML

Peter, try with [WEB:]http://www.abc.com;John Henry's Page[:WEB] See the post Web Link in Individual Narrative Not Working See also the help topic Web URLs and Email
  11. The example I gave seems to work for me... See: http://gilbert-genealogy.info/tmg/test/jcmizzell0001.htm The Find-A-Grave Memorial link takes me to the John Calvin Mizzell page
  12. The problem is the ampersand. In Hyper Text Markup Language the & is the escape character. After some testing I finally figured out that the & needs to be escaped in TMG using the \ backslash, which is the TMG escape character. Try this: [WEB:]http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr\&GSvcid=95138\&GRid=13691159\&;Find-A-Grave Memorial[:WEB] Note the \ before each &In HTML to produce an ampersand the proper code is & but the added semi-colon causes other problems in the [WEB:][:WEB] wrapper and it does not appear that escaping them with a backslash works, FWIW I couldn't get the [html:][:HTML] wrapper to work at all either... I'd highly recommend Second Site it creates really nice web pages with not much effort.

  14. Source Elements

For the most part I don't bother trying to arrange the source elements in any particular order anymore. I did when I was developing my census source types, well before we had the reminder window. Back then I had a two page instruction sheet so I knew where and what to enter in the source and tag. Having the fields in a certain sequence seemed more important than it does now Anyway I thought a table showing the order of the source groups would be helpful to other users.
  15. Source Elements

Quite some time ago I developed a list of TMG Source Element Groups by Group Number http://gilbert-genealogy.info/tmg/2.html There is a HTML table, and you can download an Excel or Open Office spreadsheet.
  16. Exhibits Multiple use

If you use External Exhibits, the only thing stored in the TMG data is the path to the exhibit and the thumbnail of the image.
  17. GeneTree mtDNA results

Kathleen It looks like they have changed the way they show the results I entered my GeneTree test results like this Column HRV1: Row 1: 16224C, Row 2: 16211C, Row 3: 16519C Column HRV2: Row 1: 073G, Row 2: 146C Row 3: 263G Row 4: 309.1C, Row 5: 315.1C Column HRV3: Row 1: 497T, Row 2: 524.1A, Row 3: 524.2C Image of GeneTree results attached for reference
  18. Program Error message

I have a vfp9rerr.log in the Windows\System32 folder. I deleted the contents of that file and tested with Sam M's suggested data_paths.txt file. Starting TMG with a data_paths.txt file pointing to a non-existent drive generates the GOTERM error message, vfp9rerr.log is not modified, that would seem to indicate GOTERM is not a FoxPro error. Modified the data_paths.txt file pointing to an existing drive, upon starting TMG created the folders on the designated drive and copied a large number of files to the designated paths. It appears the GOTERM error is related to the routine that creates the folders and copies files to finalize installation and make TMG ready to use. If the drive does not exist an error.txt file cannot be generated If the drive exists there is NO error to report   Most users probably don't need a data_paths.txt file, those that do will point to an existing drive/path. That said perhaps the GOTERM error dialog should indicate the drive does not exist or cannot be found   IMO those using a data_paths.txt file are advanced computer & TMG users and should be able to figure it out for themselves.
  19. Program Error message

I believe NN is running TMG in a virtual environment Linux - Wine http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/r...8-05/1209682815
  20. Relationship Chart

On Windows XP the font are located in C:\WINDOWS\Fonts
  21. Program Error message

This issue is related to running TMG in a Virtual Machine using Parallels on an Intel based MAC... IMO those who choose to run TMG in that environment need to take the necessary steps in configuring both their Parallels and TMG installations so they function. See: http://www.whollygenes.com/forums201/index...showtopic=10076 for details
  22. Relationship Chart

I think you are missing the Courier New (True Type) font - cour.ttf You may have too many fonts installed, I think Windows can only see 255 fonts, or you may have removed it. The forum won't let me attach the file... you should be able to find the font on your system someplace or maybe a forum admin can upload it.
  23. David Please see this post http://www.whollygenes.com/forums201/index...ost&p=38547 Also I suggest you read the entire thread, and TMG Help: Data File Storage, For Advanced Users & Customizing Data File Storage once you get TMG running.
  24. I have not been successful in using the Mac side for TMG projects. I think it is TMG & Parallels. I don't have an issue with other Windows apps opening / saving to the Mac file system. You've mentioned running VMware Fusion as well as Parallels. When running a virtual machine using Fusion are you able to store and use TMG projects on the Mac side?
  25. Have you done Validate File Integrity with search for Missing external exhibits enabled? Be sure to specify all the folders where exhibits are stored.
