  6. I'd suggest using Second Site, you can send the full footnote to the source sentence. Open the site in your browser, navigate to a source page and use the find feature in a similar manner to that used in a word processor. If you use Firefox, you can use the Highlight all function. see attached screen capture You can have your second site source page open and TMG open side by side or over / under. You can send the bibliography or the short foot note to the source sentence too, but not in the same build of a site.
  7. INSERTING PDF FILES IN EXHIBITS

.pdf files are attached as text files with the caveat that only true text files can be embedded in TMG's output. Long method: Right click in the Exhibit Log, and select Insert new text from the slide out menu select External file Insert new file window opens at the bottom of the window change Files of type: to All (*.*) Navigate to the folder where your .pdf files are located Select the desired file, click Open A dialog box will open notifying you of the caveat above, click OK Quick method: Alternately you can window TMG, and the folder where where your .pdf files are located and drag the desired file from the folder to the Exhibit Log.
  8. Problem With Fonts

I think the proper location for fonts is C:\WINDOWS\Fonts not C:\WINDOWS Also in the past an excessive number of fonts (>255) has been an issue.
  9. Custom Source Templates

It takes some work, but it can be done. I have created a table of the TMG Source Element Groups by groupnum it is located on my website. You will find it on TMG Page 2, about mid page, look for the link View Table TMG Source Element Groups by group number

  11. Missing Exhibits per VFI

In the project folder, locate the file: Last VFI.log, open it with Notepad or any text editor, near the top of the file you will find a list of the missing exhibits

Traffic on Rootsweb TMG-L suggests version 5.0 was released in May 2002 - for a hoot you should scan through the messages in the preceding months, and May. April 2002 1458 messages May 2002 5330 messages
  13. PDF Writer

You have to print to file. File > Print On the print dialog box look for a print to file check box, enable print to file, select the Wholly Genes PDF Writer When you click the OK button (or whatever) depending on the application you may or may not get a dialog box where you can select the folder and a place to type a file name. Once you type a file name and click OK (or whatever) the file is generated. You then need to open the folder you specified and locate the new file. In MS Word you can designate the folder, but .prn is the automatically assigned file extension, so you have to locate the file and rename it with the .pdf extension. I usually use something like filename.pdf, which comes out filename.pdf.prn, so the rename is simply removing the .prn bit. Some applications do not show a dialog box where you can select a folder, just a place to type a file name, if you don't type a path the file gets saved in some unknown folder, and you have to use search Start > Search : When was it modified : today to locate the file. Therefore it is easier to locate the file if you type the path and file name C:\folder\filename.pdf
  14. Anyone running TMG on a MAC?

I'm running TMG on a MacBook Pro using BootCamp, which is a dual boot configuration. When starting the computer holding down the ctrl key gives me the choice of booting from a Windows XP partition or the normal OS X partition. Essentially the computer becomes a PC and runs TMG as it would run on a normal PC. There are some limitations, running Windows XP the Mac partition is not visible / accessible. Running Mac OS X the Windows partition is visible, but access is read only. Power management for the MacBook is non-existent when running Windows XP. I have some printer issues but this may be due to the age of my printer. I am considering getting Parallels. See using TMG on Macintosh
  15. Relative Path Statements

Have you considered creating an appropriate tag in the History Tag Group? It would seem that would accomplish this.
  16. FWIW I can duplicate. But note that there are 2 undated Father-Can tags, 2 Mother-Can tags, and 1 Son-Bio tag preceding the birth tag. See attached: IN_BFK_DefaultSentence.PDF Endnotes with default sentence: IN with custom sentence: [P+] was born <[D]> <[L]> See attached: IN_BFK_CustomSentence.PDF Endnotes with custom sentence: [P+] was born <[D]> <[L]> DOH: I realized output to ASCII text removes the superscript footnotes -- see attached pdf IN_BFK_DefaultSentence.PDF IN_BFK_CustomSentence.PDF
  17. Making custom toolbar behave

There is a [CustomToolbar] item in the app.ini file it might be worth taking a look to see what is getting saved (or not) there. In my app.ini file it is way down at line 1592 of 1797 lines. All the usual cautions apply when editing files in the TMG Program directory.
  18. Exhibit files actually used in TMG

If you have 20 image files in a folder, and 10 of those images have been attached as exhibits in TMG, TMG Utility, and PathWiz! will generate reports about those 10 attached as exhibits. Both programs draw the information about exhibits from data stored in TMG tables. Since the other 10 files are NOT attached as exhibits in TMG there is nothing to report about them. It sounds like Byran is considering adding some sort of compare feature to PathWiz! that may be able to compare the files in a folder and give you a report as to which ones are attached as exhibits and which ones are unattached.
  19. I created two flags yDNA & mtDNA with a default value of N and optional values of Y and ? I then used TMG Utility People > Select DNA Descendants to set the flags to Y. It couldn't be easier. to John Cardinal
  20. Exhibit files actually used in TMG

The TMG Utility will show you what you want to know, although PathWiz does have the ability to generate more reports, and has several filter capabilities. Neither TMG Utility or PathWiz will tell you anything about images that have not been assigned in TMG.
  21. Exhibit files actually used in TMG

TMG Utility Exhibits > Verify Exhibit Paths will generate a plain text report like this: Alternately you can open the Exhibit Log, right click the thumbnail, select Properties, the Info Tab will display the path\file name plus additional information such as the dimensions, file format etc
  22. Exhibits, Internal or External

External so they can be used with SecondSite. Directory tree similar to Teresa's. Also using the Alternate Image Folder feature in SS for smaller/lower resolution versions of images for website.
  23. Changing event tag?

TMG supports import from Legacy, since you are testing things, it might be worth trying.
