  1. Relationship Tag / Kinship Report

Yes, I am still waiting for this feature... the ability to access that field for print reports would be wonderful!
  2. I too would like to add multiple people to one task, but also the ability to add multiple repos, events and sources to one task as well. This is because one task (e.g., "find a marriage record for John Smith") could be found in several places, such as online at ancestry.com, in a marriage index in the Newberry Library, in a record in the Family History Library, or a book at the Allen Public Library. Now that GenSmarts in included in v6 (which was a wonderful addition, by the way) it lists more than one place/repo (as well as more than one source) to find a record, which makes a real need for adding more than one person, event, source, and repo to one task in TMG's Task list.
  3. Wish List - Research Log

It would be so awesome if the "completed" tasks would have a check-mark icon in front of them in the Task window, or display them in a different color... something to distinguish them from the open tasks. Otherwise, we have to click on each task to see if it was completed or not. Now that GenSmarts has been integrated into TMG v6 (thank you, thank you, thank you for doing that!!!), I'm using the task list much more in TMG.
  4. John, As the market of computerized genealogists grows, and the more the internet becomes the publishing tool (rather than printing out family group sheets and reports), I think you'd be surprised just how many of us TMGers really want this kind of software that would take TMG files directly into a dynamic website!! The GEDCOM way of doing it just doesn't cut it anymore. I agree with "GenieAulogy"... WE DESPARATELY WANT IT!!! I understand it has to be worth it to you to do something of this magnitude... perhaps a poll of the TMGers would be useful?
  5. GEDCOM Export for Exhibit titles

Jim, Thank you so much for looking into this! Exporting the "caption" to GEDCOM's NOTE element would be closer to a solution, but unfortunately it doesn't really solve the issue. In my opinion, the "caption" should be going into the "TITL" element, the "description" should be going into the "NOTE", and "topic" shouldn't even be exported at all. That's because a "topic" is a categorization, a word or short phrase that is used to group objects with other common objects of the same "topic", such as for generation of a "topical index". In addition, "topic" in TMG is only 30 characters long, appropriate for a "topic", but not for a "title" of an object. The title of a graphic is often much longer than just 30 characters, and according to GEDCOM standard, the TITL element has a limit of 248 characters. However, I understand backward-compatibility issues for updating software... so if the only fix that can happen is to export the "caption" to GEDCOM's "NOTE", I'll take it!!! I can always run a script on the GEDCOM to move the NOTE to the TITL after exporting the GEDCOM from TMG. Thanks for listening - Kathy Kult
  6. GEDCOM Export for Exhibit titles

OH HOW I WISH I COULD GET AN ANSWER TO THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I find it hard to believe no one else has come across this bug. Is no one else exporting GEDCOM files from TMG??
  7. GenBridge SDK

I've tried downloading GenBridge several times within the last few weeks, and I have yet to get a password in an email, as it says on the website that I would get. Is GenBridge no longer available or something? Has anyone else been able to download and unlock the GenBridge files? I've tried email Bob Velke about it, but he doesn't answer my email. Any help is most appreciated!
  8. Which census source type?

Thank you Peter, for sharing how you enter your census information!! I like your way of doing it... withOUT the witness tags, because we all know that the witness tags won't export to GEDCOM files for use elsewhere. This way of input will work for exporting to GEDCOM, and it's SIMPLE. I've read several different ways of doing this, including making several tags (one for each census year) and roles, and a ton of other stuff, all way too complicated for what I wanted. I never thought of putting all the "extra" info in the memo field!! Although the memo field can be exported to GEDCOM, it's not formatted very well for other programs (because of the "||" separators), so I'm just going to run a script on the GEDCOM to get it into the sentence structure. So cool! I've been banging my head against the computer screen, trying to figure out a way to do this, and you've turned on the light for me! Thanks Peter! Kathy
  9. I asked about this several weeks ago, but never heard a reply from anyone. So I'm asking again, because I need a solution to this problem. The problem is, when generating a GEDCOM file, TMG exports the exhibit's title from the "topic" field, rather than the "caption" field. Since the "Topic" field is only 30 characters long, is way too restrictive for a title of an exhibit. According to GEDCOM 5.5 specification, the descriptive_title (TITL) legally has 248 chars. Since the "caption" field is much longer, I would rather have the caption exported to GEDCOM rather than the topic. If TMG can't change (probably not, for backward-compatibility, unless there's a setting somewhere on GEDCOM export that the "caption" will be exported rather than the "topic"), then how can I personally export the "caption" into the GEDCOM file so that I can run a script on it to manipulate the TITL the way I want? Any ideas?
  10. Greetings, I was wondering why the Topic field in the Exhibits is exported to the GEDCOM as the OBJE TITLE, instead of using the Exhibit's "Caption" field? Is this customizable in TMG? If so, how can I change it so that the "caption" is used instead of the "topic"? Since the "topic" field is limited to only 30 characters, I find it's often way too small to contain everything I want in the title of my graphic. Thanks for any help you can provide - Kathy Kult
  11. Jim, THANK YOU, thank you, thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just tested TMG v6.06, and the .jpg files are now UpperLower case as I had entered them. Thanks for updating the software so quickly!!! Kathy
  12. Thanks John - I certainly will investigate that one, because I'm only 10% the way through renaming my files to ALLUPPERCASE, and it's definitely a pain. Thanks for your help!
  13. Well, okay, it sounds like either way, I'm going to have to change all of my filenames to upper-case, which is something I'd rather not do, but if I'm forced into it, I'll have to. Either that, or I have to re-map 100's of exhibits every time I revise my GEDCOM. What I would like to know is WHY the TMG software deliberately changes the filenames for .jpg files to upper-case in the first place??? The path and filename for the .ged file is in mixed-case in the same GEDCOM file, so it's not making every FILE field as upper-case... it looks like it's only changing the filenames when it's an exhibit.
  14. Is there a way to display the relationship value (of ID #1) on reports? It seems to me that if you can do it for the screen in TMG, you should be able to do it for printing reports... Or is this a feature that is on the "wish list"?
  15. So sorry I haven't replied to this before now... I had a last-minute business trip to deal with, and haven't been able to get back to this problem until now In researching this problem further, I realize I misled you all by saying the "pathname" was the problem. In fact, it's the FILEname that is the problem, not the path, because you're all correct -- the path is not used on the website server. I am currently using TNG (The Next Generation) software to generate my website (http://lythgoes.net/genealogy/software.php). I was using SecondSite, but liked TNG better, because it uses a database and php files rather than pre-generating all of the webpages. Anyway, the problem is I entered the filename of the exhibit in TMG as mixed case (thinking that it wouldn't be a problem), but when I export as GEDCOM, TMG turns the mixed-case filename into all UPPERCASE. Why does it do this???? Then when I load the GEDCOM into TNG, it uses the filename in the GEDCOM, and looks for SMITH-JANEDOE.JPG instead of SMITH-JaneDOE.jpg. So now I have to go through and manually re-link the exhibits via TNG back to the mixed-case filename. However, when I update my TMG, I have to export a GEDCOM and reload it into TNG again, and because the TMG turns the filename into all upper-case for the GEDCOM, I lose all my links to the exhibits again and have to go through and manually relink them AGAIN in TNG. What a fiasco!!! So, if anyone has any ideas for how to fix this (besides renaming all of my graphics to all upper-case), I'd appreciate hearing from you!
