  1. I have a folder where I store scans of all of my certificates and photos. The ones I wish to import into TMG and attach to events, I copy, resize and compress them so that they are all a standard width in TMG/SS, then import them into TMG. It works well but the down side is that I have 2 copies of the same file, albeit one has been altered. This does mean that I can revert back to the original if required, and can move to an external hard drive the originals when disk space becomes tight. Is this the best way to do it?
  2. I have copied a tag which I have then called Newspaper. It shows up OK on the screen and everything is fine in TMG. However when I use Second Site, rather than saying Newspaper against the tag, it says Note (which was the tag that i copied it from). I have tried all sorts to resolve but no joy. I have my own language set up to be English2, and looking at TMG and SS it seems to be set to the correct language in both instances. Any ideas Shaun
  3. Tag label problem in Second Site

Yes you are a genius ! Thanks. It has worked. I have spent hours trying to get it to work previously! Cheers
  4. Tag label problem in Second Site

Unfortuantely not, the language is currently set to English2 under the master tag list. When I try to change it to English US, it reverts back to English2 (presumably as I have this set as the default). Thanks anyway
  5. I have decided to move my 3 data sets into 1. I then want to use a flag within the new data set which says 1,2,3, depending which data set the person has come from. Am having terrible troubles doing this, any suggestions please
  6. I am currently only researching my male family line as a one name study. I do not intend to research any other lines at all. I currently have my data in one project but with different data sets for the following sets: •Data set 1 = People who are related to me in some way •Data set 2 = People who have the same surname but are not related to me (yet!) •Data set 3 = People who have a similar spelling or variant, who I want to record for information only (ie they were called by my surname but upon further investigation this appeared to be a miss spelling) Is this the best way to store data in the 3 data sets? I am considering merging the 3 data sets into 1 and using flags to identify who is who. The reasons why I may do this is due to the following annoyances: •When I upload my info to second site, I need to merge all of the data into 1 dataset, then merge the duplicate sources (as the same source needs to be recorded in each data set), this can be time consuming. •Each source may need to be recorded 3 times if it occurs in each data set. Would this be a wise decision? I don’t want to do it if it is not the best way to do. How does everyone else deal with this at the moment? Thanks
  7. I have added a flag, called related to me. At the moment the standard value is ?. I have set up a focus group for these people, and want to change all of the values of this focus group to be Y, is there a easy way instead of doing one by one. I don't want to add/download another program or utility but wonder if it can be done from the stardard TMG softawre. Thanks
  8. Mass changing a flag

Thanks, perfect, have changed easily and worked it all out. Cheers
  9. Using v 6.03.00, every so often for no apparent reason, all of my drop down menus go grey so that i can not select anything. Even the close button is greyed out. The only thing to do is click the x in the top right to close it down. Any ideas how to fix this bug? I do run file maintenance very often.
  10. Still no joy. Escape does not work either. Am not using dual monitors either. Attached is screen shot. As you can see most is greyed out. At least the x works to close rather than crashing it out. Probably a glitch with my system. TMG.doc
  11. wishlist: date format

I agree you can. I use the dash. 1st date - 2nd date
  12. I thought about upgrading but i tend to not upgrade unless there is a specific feature that i require or it is essential, as with most upgrades minor glitches happen, and I am just a bit worried about something happening. I suppose I will just have to live with it for a while longer. Thanks
  13. The centre current window does not fix it. I have tried that many times before, as its one of the only few drop downs menus that work. Any other suggestions? All it does is move the window to the centre but everything still stays grey.
  14. http://www.whollygenes.com/forums201/index...wtopic=5212&hl= I had similar, does this help?
  15. One Data Set: Two Computers

What about always keeping your file on a USB memory stick, that way when you load from the memory stick you will always be using the latest files. But keep a backup on each machine just in case you lose memory stick every once in a while.
  16. Census Sort order

I recall that I wanted to re-order my dated tags that had the same date. I was told that to change the order that I would need to use the sort date feature to alter, which I have done. I guess its the same problem that to arrange the order of undated tags you need to use the sort date. I supose in future it would be good to have a feature that enables you to arrange the order of tags that have the same date, by selecting the order they appear. Shaun
  17. I have joined a DNA study for my name. They require me to compile a Descendant Narrative report. However it needs to be in a particular format as per the attached example. However whenevr I use the TMG report I get a lot more information in the text rather than just the BMD dates on each line as the example. Is there a simple way to get the report similar (I beleive the one attached used FTM) All my info is in TMG and I don't really want to go through & manually enter the infomation, as the info is in TMG, I just need to extract it correctly. The example attached exported TMG to GEDCOM, then imported GEDCOM to FTM. Heres hoping to saving me a lot of time... Regards Shaun Muddock_William.htm
  18. Descendant Narrative

Fantastic, it works perfectly. Cheers Shaun
  19. Census Sort order

Yes check the sort date, has it been imported incorrectly? My UK census are fine, but then I have manually eneterd the information with the correct sort dates.
  20. Hi When visiting another support forum site, they had the option of marking the question as resolved by a tick box. This added [resolved] to the beginning of the message, so that you knew if the question had a fix or not before reading it all. What do you think, a future addition? Shaun
  21. Using the individual detail report, I have 5 or so sources against the persons name. When I print the report not all of the sources are shown as it runs out of space and does not increase the row height to accomodate this. eg its the bit at the top that says Subject Persons Name ID Nr Sources.......... Any ideas? I attach to show what I mean at the top TMG_test.pdf
  22. Individual Detail Report

Thanks. Now I know that it can't be done I will work around it. I though there may be some setting somewhere but there is not. Never mind. Thanks for the help and solution.
  23. Individual Detail Report

Hi I have the sources embeded, and I have the font set up to be superscript to differentiate between sources and the actual text. It is showing it how it should. It seems to be working properly with the exception of the text wrapping, which is the problem that I am trying to solve. Thanks for your help. Shaun
  24. I am trying to use the journal report in TMG 6. I am using the person at the top of my tree and the settings within are set to show descendants of this person. However it only creates 1 person saying there are no descendants for this person. The same happens when I click on a middle person in my tree. He has definately has descendants but I presume there must be a setting incorrect somewhere and it is not recognising them. I have gone back to the defult report but this did not sort it out. I have also reindexed and optimised. Any ideas?
