  1. I want to print my descendant narrative chart to MS Word. I have selected Word as the output. It seems to go to do it but then I get a window that says 16 Bit windows sub system c:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt The system file is not suitable for running MS DOS & windows applications. Any ideas why I can not print to word? Thanks
  2. Yes its fixed it thanks very much
  3. Its a missing file, this is the fix, its a XP problem or something... To verify whether you have the file, type "%windir%/system32/" in the address bar of an Explorer window. If there is no AUTOEXEC.NT file proceed as follows: 1. Browse to "%windir%/repair/" (usually "C:\WINDOWS\repair") 2. Right-Click and Copy the AUTOEXEC.NT file 3. Browse to "%windir%/system32/" (usually "C:\WINDOWS\System32") 4. Right-Click inside the window and Paste the file
  4. I believe that Dell do not issue the disks anymore with XP on (due to miss use?). Instead they issue a diagnostic disc which reverts your PC back to the factory settings as I understand, to the state when it arrived. I have brought 2 new PC's lately and both have the diagnostic disc rather than a disc with XP. Word is the latest version I think which is 2003. I have not run a virus check recently either, but have done in the past. Is all I need to do is to extract the file? Thanks for your help
  5. This is the message within the cache version " This is a Windows error. to correct the problem, insert the Windows XP CD into the CD drive and clicking start --> Run and entering: expand X:\i386\autoexec.nt_ c:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt Replace X:\ with your CD ROM drive letter. If you do not have the Windows CD, check your documentation for repairing Windows. " I have a dell machine that does not come with a CD for XP. Can I just type the command above??? I don't want to do anything to muck up the PC as its a new one. Thanks
  6. I am using the descendant narrative report. My living people are suppressed, so it says "are still living". However when you look at his parent, who is dead, it says, he married 'name', which gives the mothers maiden name. Obviously I do not want to exclude all marriage details for the whole report (which would solve it but no marriages would be shown at all), but only one marriage before the living person. How can this be fixed, easily? Any ideas?
  7. Thanks very much. I will get on to it. Kind of hoping there was a very easy way but never mind. It seems simple enough. Shaun
  8. I am quite happy for living not to be there at all. But how do I do this simply? I would of thought that by having the not show living people box ticked it would not show them. I would just like to select something that removes these living people...... but how... Thanks
  9. I deleted the report totally and started again and it has solved the problem.
  10. Hi Am using TMG v6. I have set up a database called Muddock with 4 data sets. Data set 1 is the main data set that I use for all my Muddock family relations bearing my family name. I want to add a data set or file called MOTHER, which will contain all of my mothers family relations. I don't want to direct imput into Muddock data set 1, as this will clog up my current names. I want to create another data file (or import?), where I can enter the entire line for the name MOTHER, which can then be locked and merged into Muddock data set 1, so I can then connect a line from my mother up. What is the easiest/best way to do it? Thanks
  11. How to add a new family line

My only reservation is that I didn't want to clog up my current data set with more people and names than I really had to, which would make if slightly more difficult when searching my current data, etc. (about 1000 people so far) I think I may add them into the same set and use flags so that they appear in a different colour when I hit F2. Thanks for your help. This is a very useful forum!
  12. On the individual print out, I have my souces shown, they naturally appear in a set of brackets, how do i remove these set of brackets, thanks
  13. Perfect, thanks I knew it must have been something simple.
  14. In the UK is slightly different but same principle applies. I've edited one of the tags to be REG DISTRICT instead of the one that you are meant to use as TEMPLE, as in the UK we will never use that one. Shaun
  15. How to add a new family line

Thanks for your answers. I am pretty sure that I won't have duplicate people and will try to amplify below what I mean, which should help decide what way is best. I have one data set for my One Name Study which is the name MUDDOCK. I have added my 2 parents and 4 granparents into my MUDDOCK dataset. The rest of the entries in the data set are ancestors and other people that I find with the name Muddock. I don't really have an interest in searching for any other branches at the moment and I am happy with how my data is functioning at present in TMG. Now heres the bit I want to add. 1 of my grandparents has traced his FARNHAM surname back to the 1200's, which is on my mothers side. I want to add the entire tree as either a seperate dataset or something for all of the entries that he has found. Then I want to add a single link, which links my granparent in my Muddock dataset, to his FARNHAM parents in the other dataset. This single link will only be the connection between the two families. Thanks for your assistance.
