  1. Looks like my settings are OK but its still not there? I'm using v6.12. This is strange. Its the column mode that it is not showing the person in. The vent list mode is fine. Anything else to try?

    I"ve attached a screenshot showing where you should be looking for the column header line. The line may be hard up against the side of the window, but if you get close to it your cursor will turn into a double-headed arrow so you can drag the line to the right.

    Thats where I am trying to click to expand. But I end up grabbing the edge of the whole window and making that wider and still not showing the person column. I'll try again tonight and move the mouse very very slowly. I did an ungrade from v6.9 to v6.12 and it may have happened when I did the upgrade for some reason.

  3. Woah!! Captain Obvious strikes again! :lmao:

    I must say, Jim, that one got me rolling.

    I confess, I'm not up on Vista and how it's different from XP. I also figure I'm at least a year away from needing to know in detail, since I figure my P3 laptop w/ XP Home has some life in it yet, and I see no way I'll upgrade just an OS. When I change, I replace the 'puter, too.

     

    Personally I'm quite happy with V6, and would rather have amendments to V6 than a whole new version.

     

    Take windows bringing out a new version every 2 years or so, it becomes a bit of a pain as you feel you always need to have the latest one, which brings more expense and then ultimately a new PC! Very frustrating.

  4. I would like the image window to show all the images/exhibits that I have for that person, ideally as a slide show, while I'm working in TMG. Can this be done?

     

    Currently it only shows my primary image which is good but i would like it to do more.

     

    I attach certificates to events so I could then see which ones i have not attached yet.

  5. Dear Forum,

    I want to remove from my data set the parents and siblings for my GG Grandfather because I am longer satisfied with the original evidence that placed them in the data set on the first place.

    Rather than just deleting these people I'd like to retain the group - parents marriage, other children's birth/baptism etc. - in a new data set just in case I later find more compelling evidence that they were the correct members of the Tree in the first place.

    What is the procedure for transferring this group into a new data set and removing them from the original data set?

    You could use a flag, then set an accent to show then in a different colour. That way they remain in the same data set. If you do a search for data set, you will probably see some posts saying keep all info in 1 data set. I used to have 4 data sets for different branches of the same family, but i have now moved them into 1 data set with flags and accents, which is easier.


  6. Source exhibits don't show at the end of citations. They show at the end of the source page entry. Citation exhibits are shown on citations.

     

    Hi, I've been playing and trying numerous options but can not seem to get the result that I would like. I have lots of Certificates that I want to attach as exhibits. I would like to call this source say Joe Bloggs BC and attach the exhibit once to this source. Then when ever the source is used there is an immediate like to the exhibit.

     

    When I create my SS pages, I only like to show citations (or would like only the sources without the citations to show if I could). However as you correctly point out John the photos are not attached to the citations, as I have attached them to the sources.

     

    Obviously I want to only attach the exhibit once and then it appears numerous times. Am I missing something and trying to achieve something that I can't? What is the best way to do this?

  7. I have some roles set up with my death tags, called father, mother, child, etc. to show the relationship of the person listed on the DC.

     

    I now believe that i need to merge the roles, of mother and father to be the role of parent, so that I can have better sentenace structures. Can you merge roles together?

     

    I also will need to merge roles for census records, to be more in line with Terry's roles of with parents, etc.

  8. Is there a way to print a full chart starting from some focus person? What I mean is, most of the reports show direct lineage - parents, grandparents, great grandparents, etc. I want to see a graph of parents - their siblings, grandparents - their siblings, etc., etc. I know it can get HUGE, but I'd still like to see it.

     

    I would like this too.


  9. Here is another piece of confusion. My structures that say "<listed as [M3]|not listed>" all come up saying "not listed", even though I have put information in [M3], etc. with the correct ||symbols. Obviously I am misusing the | symbol, but it makes sense to me. :rolleyes: Why doesn't it to the program?

     

    I have the same problem, can you create this type of variable?


  10. I'm getting to grips with TMG and am really happy with the reports being generated - individual narrative, end notes, bibliography are all great. So I've got used to sentence construction and entering everything in the right place.

    However, having used other family history programs in the past, I just feel a little uncomfortable that I'm not entering actual text from the source anywhere.

    If the text forms part of the story - like an extract from an apprenticeship indenture that I want to show up in the individual narrative - then I include it in the memo. But what about data that I want to record but don't want to show in the narrative. For example on a birth certificate - registration district, occupation of father, informant, when registered. Or on a census return - details of others in the same household.

     

    You could use memo 1, memo 2, etc. M1, M2. Then pick which part of the memo to use in the sentance. ie M1 is text that you will use in a sentence, and M2 is other info that you want to record but not print. Of course you will need to adjust the sentence structure to accomodate.

The problem with RGC's approach (which I have tried) is that it makes it very difficult to get back to a specific source if it's only contained within another source's citation detail, whereas if it stands as a source itself, it can be easily accessed using the Master Source List.

  12. I have scanned lots of Birth Certificates. I want to attach them as an exhibit. As far as I can see there are 2 possible places to put the source with the exhibit attached.

     

    1a) The birth event itself.

    2a) Create a source called 'Birth Certificate of Joe Bloggs' and attach the source to all of the events where the information is used.

     

    I can see the following problems.

     

    1a) As the BC also contains information like the occupation of father, the exhibit will need to be attached to the birth tag, the occupation tag, etc. This means attaching the exhibit to lots of tags.

     

    2a) I will then have lots of sources, ie 1 source for every certificate i have which may become cumbersome. However it does mean only 1 source for each certificate.

     

    How does everyone else attach exhibits as sources?
