  1. I am trying to install TMG 7 on my iMac. I have VMFusion and Windows 7 32 bit installed and running. I tried to install TMG using the defaults but it did not work. I got lots of error messages. Is there some instructions somewhere on how to do this? I note the pinned one but this is for paralles. Thanks Roger
  2. Install TMG 7

OK I have done the following: Setup a new Administrator Account even though I was already an Administrator. Is there a way to make my account a full administrator account? Created and placed the new file in the TMG program folder. In fact I had 2 items. One for Administrator and one for me. I am the normal administrator user. I found out that in order to put something into the program folder I needed the special Administrator user? At least that is what I hoped for. Now when I signed on using the Administrator Account and started TMG, TMG created the new folders etc. But when I sign on as me it will not allow me to use these folders. I am sure I have the username for both accounts in the file. [username] UserData=C:\Users\username\Documents\The Master Genealogist v7 Do I need to reinstall TMG? Or how do I use the new file I placed into the program folder if I am signed on as me? I am running Windows 7 and VM Fusion. Will John Cardinal's suggestion work for this? I can not find the right area in Fusion to make this type of change. Thanks Roger
  3. Questions

I am running TMG on a iMac using VM Fusion and XP pro. I have 4 meg of memory. The question I have is anyone using Dragon Dictate 2 for the Mac to dictate into TMG? If so what has been your experience? I would like to purchase Dragon Dictate for the Mac but would just like to know if it works well. Thanks Roger
  4. When i export a gedcom i would like to export the complete address line for LDS temples. Currently when I export I get SLAKE only which is the temple code. I would like for it to export the complete address I have entered for the temple. Is there a way to do this? Thanks Roger
  5. GEDCOM Question

Thanks that should do the trick
  6. I am trying to create a filter for a focus group that will be used in selecting individuals for gedcom export. I need the filter to select an individual using the id number [?] so that I can make the selection when I run the filter. then select a wife then select all of the children for this couple along with the husband/wife of the children. So far I am at a loss. I think I can use the id number = [?] or id number = [?] to get the husband and wife. But how do I add just the children of this marriage and their spouse? Thanks
  7. Gedcom

Is there some way to sort the gedcom output so that all event tags are in sort date sequence? Roger
  8. Gedcom

So is it up to the receiving program to do the sorting? Roger
  9. iPad

Is there anyone on the list who is using an iPad and gedview or famviewer? I would like to share notes with you on how you have formated your gedcom to get the best output for these programs on the iPad. Specific questions is about sources and exibits. Roger
  10. iPad

I have a picture attached to an event. Will SS show this picture? Roger
  11. iPad

Thanks for the reply I use my iPhone also with famviewer. The screen is kinda small but great for taking pictures at cemeteries and the recording when I get home. I bough a iPad for my wife on mothers day this year. She has very bad isight and has a hard time reading. But with the iPad she can read great and infact has read several books since she got the iPad. Lots more than ever before. Best investment I have made. I am trying to figure out which is the best genealogy software for the iPad and am currently leaning toward gedview. I am just testing it out to see the best way to set up the gedcom to get what I want. So far I transfer everything. Some of my sources do not look too good on the iPad so I am looking to see what I can do to help that I need enough so that I can decipher what it means and be able to explain where it comes from. I thought about secondsite but have not tried it yet. Roger
  12. Filter question

Thanks it works I keep getting focus groups and project explorer mixed up. Roger
  13. I have a single Y in the tag memo field that I would like to get rid of. There is no other data there but the Y in the first position of the field. Any suggestions on how to do this without doing it individual entry at a time? Thanks Roger
  14. Search and Replace

OK found how to make it work I had to check Use Pattern matching and Match case then check Contents..... Then it worked. thanks Roger
  15. Search and Replace

I have tried that and it seems to bring back any memo that has a Y no matter if there is other information or not. I even tried to use a Y plus several spaces after it to hopefully elimintate other information but it did not seem to work. Maybe I am doing it wrong... Roger
  16. I am trying to export a gedcom file for import into another program. Is there a way to have the export of the events be in sort order sequence? Thanks Roger
  17. Source

I am trying to create a source template and am having a problem. This is my template: [JURISDICTION] [AGENCY], <[CD4] >[RECORD TYPE] number [CD2] ([CD3]), [CD1], [REPOSITORY], [REPOSITORY ADDRESS]. <(Personal file location [CREF])>[:NP:] I am trying to suppress the "." that is automaticly added to the end. When I try to use [:NP:] I get an error message saying it is not valid. What am I doing wrong? Thanks Roger
  18. FamilySearch Certified

Just my 2 cents worth. If I want to do a internet search I use GenSmarts and do the look up then if I want I can copy the results back to TMG using copy and past or just key it back in. What helps is I don't have to key in the search criteria each time I do a search. If I want to do a search of newFamilySearch I use FamilyInsight to do the look up. Again I do not have to enter the search criteria but if I want the results I can copy and paste or just key the results back to TMG. I have to agree the internet searches of RM or Legacy are pretty good and I would like to see them intergreted into TMG and allow me to decide what I want moved to TMG. Then fact that you do not have to key in name, dob, pob etc into the search criteria each time saves a lot of time. If the search dose not work then most sites have the ability to refine the serch. Roger
  19. LDS Familysearch

I would also like the interface to newFamilySearch. I have worked out a method to do searches directly from TMG to newFamilySearch using FamilyInsight. This helps a great deal. If you have some scripting talents maybe you can help me get it linked even closer to TMG. It will allow me to search using TMG and send my TMG data to newFamilySearch but will not update TMG with the data found. If you are interested let me know and I will be glad to share what I have working. I was given much help in getting it set up and it has saved me a lot of time. Roger
  20. GEDCOM

I am exporting just one individual along with several event for this individual. I would like to be able to include his wife and kids if possible. I think I can do this by flaging the individuals but since I am doing this a lot of time with different individuals this becomes time consuming. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Roger
  21. GEDCOM

In using the Project Explorer and a filter. ID number = [?] Then when I run the filter I key in the individual I want. Then run the filter and select everyone in the filtered list. This gives me what I want even better than I expected. Then run the gedcom export and all is well.. I can then save the filter. I am still working on this but seems to be as close to what i want as I am going to get. The focus group worked but seemed to be a little more work. Roger
  22. Sources

I have just converted from Legacy. I would like to use the Mills source templates. How do I convert my old legacy imports to the new mills template? Thanks Roger
  23. Sources

You are right I would not consider FamilySearch a source. But newFamilySource would be a source for what we as LDS used to find in the IGI about ordinanec dates. So I would consider it a source for this information. In other instances it would not be a source but in my thinking a repository. Roger
  24. Sources

Found my own answer there is a difference in Mills book Evidence and Evidence Explained. TMG seems to follow Evidence. Wonder Why??? Oh well another decision. Has anyone else made this decision? Has anyone set up a source for the newFamilySearch? Roger
  25. Sources

I appreciate the help each of you have given. Now time for another questions: When I go to look at the default for a birth registration state leval in TMG: [NAME OF PERSON], [RECORD TYPE]< [FILE NUMBER]><, [CD]> ([FILE DATE]), [REPOSITORY], [REPOSITORY ADDRESS]. I use the following: [CD1], <[CD4] >[RECORD TYPE]< number [CD2]> ([CD3]), [REPOSITORY], [REPOSITORY ADDRESS]. CD1 = Persons Name; CD2 = Certificate number; CD3 = File date; CD4 = delayed if needed I notice in reading the Evidence Explained book on page 430 for vital records certificates it seems to have a different format: Jurisdiction; Agency; Certificate type; certificate number; file date; Person; repository; repository location Im confused between what is given in TMG and what I see in the book? Please offer any suggestions to my format and any help will be appreciated. Thanks Roger
