  1. reconnecting VCF with TMG V9.03

Michael, Have been thinking of doing just that for other reasons; however, have localized the problem with the "connection". A while ago discovered that the connection was fine for everyone in the data base except for one area! It is a family in which mother of the wife of brother "X" married brother "Xs" brother. Will have to work on that.
  2. reconnecting VCF with TMG V9.03

Virginia, Can now see the Program Data folder and its sub-folders. Thanks. Using windows 7 Home Premium. The steps to do the change are: Start / Control Panel / Folder Options / View Tab / Show hidden files, folders and drives. It appears that my TMG9-VCF connection problem is gone. Just tried running the latest version again and can now generate new VCF charts. I really have no idea what "fixed" the problem. Only possibility is that I run Novastore Backup which is running all the time in the background. I have encountered some strange things like an open window is closed or I am typing in a lot of info and look up and not all the text has been taken. That may be the "problem". Thanks all for your advice.
  3. reconnecting VCF with TMG V9.03

Thanks for the responses. Tried the "repair" and no luck. Did the "uninstall" then "install" still no luck (did not restart between the two activities. The "tmg9setup.exe" was used. It displays it is for V9.03 and is 46.5 MB in size. By the way, properties shows it on C:\ProgramData\The Master Genealogist V9 Installer\Update. Cannot find ProgramData folder on C:
  4. Useful APP

Would like to recommend a good Iphone, Ipad app for having your TMG database very well displayed for portability purposes. Not sure if it is permissible and what for forum it is applicable. Joe
  5. Useful APP

Thanks Glenn. Replied at that topic.
  6. iPad app

Glenn, thanks for pointing me to this topic. This app I refer to is "GedFamilies". What is does is take a Gedcom file and transfer it to an Iphone, Ipod touch or Ipad. The first release was 29Nov2012 with the latest version 7may2013. I requires a free companion program on the PC to convert the Gedcom file to an SQL. Supports wireless or USB transfer. The USB transfer (not sure of wireless) utilizes Itunes software. I was amazed at how fast it transferred my 1200 tif images along with the 2200 people's worth of data. Makes a nice way to carry around the database when doing research.
  7. TMG V8.08 and Windows 7 Home Edition. A few images on charts have variable percentages of the image in a monochrome striped always from the top down of the image. I have run the reports that have images in them and the descendant indented narrative, family group sheet, individual detail, individual narrative and journal reports work fine. The hourglass chart, ascendant and descendant charts have the problem. I have edited the image and reloaded it into the exhibit file with the same problem. I generated a large descendant chart with about 80 boxes having images. A total of 3 images show this problem. Unable to paste the image in this message. Joe
  8. Images on chart missing portions

Virginia, Background: There were five image files that would always appear as your above reply in chart reports but showed no such problem in other reports nor in the external folder or the persons exhibit images. After working with you the problem was solved. Basically the problem was something strange in the image file data content itself. Solution: (1) Deleted the problem jpg files from the external image folder. (2) Brought the archived version of the file (tif) into photoshop. (3) Saved that file back into the repository as a jpg file in same folder and file name as the problem file. (4) To my surprise the frowny face "missing" file in the persons exhibits did not recognize the replaced file. (5) I had to "add" the replacement file to the persons exhibit folder. (6) Copied the "properties" data from the still present frowny face to the added file. Now the replacement image was ok. (7) Deleted the frowny face file. (8) Ran the chart reports and no problem. Joe
  9. Images on chart missing portions

Virginia, Sorry for being so thick but I still do not see the Attach files option! (1) I do the "More Reply Options" (2) Here is what the resultant window looks like: (2a) Replying to Images on Chart Missing Portion (2b) Is a toolbar line: BB code mode...........................................past from word, editor options (2c) text function line: B, I,---------------------------------------------(Align right) (2d) is the entry field (2e) -------------------------------------add reply, previous post or cancel Following 2e begins the listing of the topic comments. There is a right side column in area of 2a-2e that has this selection called post options: enable emoticons? enable signature? follow this topic? The two "enables" are checked. Joe
  10. Images on chart missing portions

Virginia, Tried the procedure you suggested but no luck. (1) Clicked the "More Reply Options" button and that was ok. (2) There is no "Browse" button in the reply toolbar. Only, "Paste", "Past as Plain Text" and "Past from Word". I have tried the "Paste" and "Past from Word" options. I get a window asking if I want to allow access to the clipboard. I respond "yes" and the only thing that happens is the reply window gets lighter and I can do nothing more. Joe
  11. Images on chart missing portions

Virginia, The same problem exists in a 5 box generation, two levels chart. Tried your insert procedure and the picture comes in with the same problem.
  12. Images on chart missing portions

Virginia, All the images I use are TIF with the longest side 2.0 inches. Wish I could include one of the "error" images but cannot seem to paste using IE or chrome. Joe
  13. Preposition Cap first letter.

TMG V8.08 Windows 7 Home. Given sentences: [RF:Child] is first. [RS:Child] is second] Child=Charles Output is: Charles is first. his is second. Is there any way to get the sentence to read: Charles is first. His is second. ?
  14. Preposition Cap first letter.

Thanks Terry. I will have to restructure the sentence as you suggested.
  15. TMG V8.08 and Windows 7 Home. Tools: Master Source List or Master Tag Type List. Editing some of the entries. Get the error "Unknown Member ROPROTECTIONMAN". Open window: Shows the folder "The Master Genealogist v8" and bottom is "Files of the type: Table/DBF(*.dbf)". Look in the folder and no such named dbf file. Must Use CAD to close the TMG window. Restart TMG and look into the TMG v8 folder and no ROPROTECTIONMAN.dbf file in there either. Error seems to occur randomly while editing the List items.
  16. Wish List

This may not be the place but where could I submit wish list items? In report options, would like to have the ability to calculate [AE] and [RE] tag sentence variables as if they were [A] and [RA] variables. To a lesser extent, calculate [DD} variables as if they were [D]. This allows me to have the tags equipped with detail capability but generate reports without the detail for those situations where the recipient prefers that level of information. Joe
  17. TMG v.8.08, Windows 7 Home. Journal Report Options all on the Exhibit Tab. For each person include "all" images. Embedded is selected. Checked-include external images; include external images with copy to destination folder checked; ref full path names; include event, citation and source exhibits; resize image. Report is a Word document. In the places where the persons non-event image(s) occur there are multiple images of the same image. The image is the selected primary one for the individual. The number of total images equals the total non-event images in the exhibit log for that person. Event images appear later in the text and they are ok. Tried several runs unchecking "include export images"; "copy to destination folder" and "resize images" and still same problem. If I change my "each person" from all to primary, output is good. Any ideas? Joe
  18. TMG V.8.08. Windows 7 Home. How do I define the format of the reference numbers for Endnote and Bibliography listings. I have some reports that utilize Arabic which is what I desire; however, some utilize roman numerals. Joe
  19. Number Scheme for Endnotes and Bibliography

Thanks Virginia, Family Group Sheet Report: Memo Tab=Endnotes selected, Unique unchecked, Include name and memos checked. Sources Tab=Footnotes selected, Include Name and Relationships. Running the screen preview I got Roman Numerals for the Endnote lists. Made one change to above settings. Checked Unique. Ran report again and got Arabic numerals. What you described appears to be the situation. Thanks, Joe
  20. draft card registration date

The draft cards contain items like occupation, living location, etc. The draft card info contains only a "registration" date. It appears this date is a fixed one for the card type. How does one handle correlating the date to the accuracy of the information? For example, if the registration date is 5June1917, does that mean the occupation listed is valid as of that date? Could their be a long time delay between the date of the entry and the registration date? If permitted, one other question. What address do you put in the place entry: living at or the board address? Joe
  21. draft card registration date

Terry, Thanks. That is what I will do. Joe
  22. draft card registration date

Thanks for the reply, Michael. Sorry for late response.....got busy on another project. Yes, I would use the "regular" tags like occupation with the card as the source. What I was questioning is the accuracy of the "registration date" to the data on the card. It appears that for a given WW 1 draft card, the registration date is identical for all cards of that type (A, B or C). I guess it is correct to say any data on the card is valid as of the registration date and that is the date to be used for the tag with no qualifications. Joe
  23. Have a source defined as say number 33. Need to locate all the events (tag and person name) that have that source number in it. Have played around with filter options and no luck. How can I accomplish this search. Need to check each such event to see if can be used with a newer source definition. Thanks,] Joe
  24. Locate events with specific source number

Thanks Paul for your help. Worked great! Joe
  25. I make extensive use of the "AE" sentence variable in many tags. Would like to be able to optionally designate show only the age year or the age ymd in reports, charts, etc. I suspect this is a "wish" list item since I do not think this exists.
