From the TMG mailing list archives, a reply from Lee Hoffman to a similar question:

"Have you "inserted" the index in the document in your word

processor? That is, have you told your word processor where the

index should be created? In MS/Word, go to the end of the document

(or wherever you want the index) and click there. Then select

Insert=>Reference=>Index and Tables... and in the Index and Tables

window, choose the Type, Columns, Language, format, etc. and click on

the [OK] button."

The mailing list archive (here) is a great resource for finding a quick answer. I usually enter a couple of key words in the first field and start with 2008 to get the most recent replies.

To expand just a bit on the response Virginia quoted...

When you tell TMG to include an index in reports sent to a word processor, TMG inserts the required index codes in the document in the word processor's native format. But TMG doesn't actually create the index itself. You have the word processor do that, as Lee said in the quoted passage.

Since the index is created by the word processor, if you edit or reformat the document resulting in re-pagination of the report, the word processor will adjust the page references as required. You can even combine multiple reports into a single word processor document and the index will then reflect the content of all the original reports.

When I create an index in the word processor [Word 2007] and check the box to "right align" the page numbers, it does not do it. I also choose "1 column" and leave everything else as the default value.

When I attempt to change the format (which is "from template"), it gives me garbage.

Any ideas about what I should be doing to get the page numbers right aligned?

Thanks,
