=== Where oh where is MSVCR71.DLL? ==================

A number of TMG users have recently reported that they get this error message when they start the program: "This application has failed to start because MSVCR71.DLL was not found."

It seems that a recent system update (or perhaps a virus checker or other utility) has recently started to delete that important file. The simple solution does not require a reinstallation and is described below.

Note: It is _not_ necessary to follow these steps unless you have encountered the error message!

1) Download a copy of the file from http://www.whollygenes.com/files/msvcr71.zip

2) Unzip (don't simply copy) the file into the program folder which contains TMG7.EXE.

By default this folder is:

C:\Program Files\The Master Genealogist v7

or (for people with a 64-bit operating system):

C:\Program Files (x86)\The Master Genealogist v7

If you changed the default folder during installation, then you'll need to search for TMG7.EXE.

That's it. The problem should not happen again. If you have trouble or need help with the procedure, please contact technical support as described at the end of this newsletter.

=== This Month's Special - 20% OFF ====================

www.WhollyGenes.com offers thousands of data CDs from around the world to help you break through your research brick walls. Try our handy geographic index to find the titles for your area of interest.

For a limited time, the following popular title is available for 20% OFF the regular retail price:

John Fiske, THE DUTCH AND QUAKER COLONIES IN AMERICA (DOWNLOAD), (1900) 2008.

$19.96 (regularly) $24.95

http://www.whollygenes.com/find_wg.mvc?ref...WS&p=US0610

(available as a download or on CD)

Fiske devotes this volume of his series on colonial American history first to New Amsterdam and the early history of New York and New Jersey, then to the settlement of Pennsylvania and of the territory that became Delaware. He then carries the history of these colonies down to the Revolutionary era.

The author begins with a discussion of the Netherlands prior to the period of North American colonization, including relations with England. He then relates the story of the period of discovery, followed by the settlements at Albany and Manhattan. He covers the Dutch penetration of the Delaware and the beginnings of the settlements in northern New Jersey, and the wars with England which led to the establishment of New York.

At this point Fiske switches his attention to the colonizing activities of William Penn and the Quaker migrations to Pennsylvania and to southern New Jersey. This is followed by an account of the activities of Governor Andros, and the Dominion of New England, which briefly brought several English colonies under his unified government.

Fiske closes with an account of the Middle Colonies in the first half of the eighteenth century, and then gives special attention to such immigrant groups as the Huguenots and the Scotch-Irish.

=== 2010 Conference and Cruise Considerations ============

As yet another winter storm is bearing down on us on the east coast of the U.S., we take a moment to think about cruising to some warm tropical ports with a group of genealogists.

If you've attended our annual conference and cruise in the past and _especially_ if you haven't, we'd like to hear what you think about what we're considering:
