copying data from a more recent but corrupt project into an older one

Recommended Posts

Have been having two problems with my current Project:

1) source numbers on MSL disappeared (although I realized the column boundary may be too far to the right)

2) witness roles do not show on a person's Details sheet

I have been restoring my backup files in sequence from the most recent. The last one in which the witness roles are visible and the Source Numbers are visible was made a couple of months ago. I have access to two computers, a laptop and a desk top. To avoid having to re-add all of the people, sources, names, etc. I have entered since then, is there a way I can copy them from the corrupt file and add them into the previous project

Sounds like these are both display issues that have nothing to do with your project data.

Copy the app.ini from the program folder to your user program data folder.

The user program data folder is...

Windows 7 and Windows Vista

C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\The Master Genealogist v7

or

Windows XP and Windows 2000

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\The Master Genealogist v7

Run TMG and browse to your project and open it. Check your issues.

You will need to reset your choices in Preferences / Program Options.
