=== NEW BOOK: A Primer for The Master Genealogist ===

We've alluded previously to an upcoming book by Terry Reigel and now we can finally give you the details! Following is an exciting press release from ReigelRidge Press about what is sure to be a very popular book!

===

Getting Started with The Master Genealogist is Now Easier than Ever

New Book by Terry Reigel is Available

Boone, North Carolina -- 8 February 2008 -- ReigelRidge Press is proud to announce availability of a new book by Terry Reigel, "A Primer for The Master Genealogist." As the title implies, the book is intended to help new users quickly become comfortable with what is called the most comprehensive family history software available. The book provides the reader a foundation for working with The Master Genealogist (TMG), and is designed to help users understand just how they can best make use of its capabilities. Some more advanced features are introduced because many users move to TMG to take advantage of these features.

"As I have exchanged notes with new users of TMG in online forums, and talked with them in person at genealogy conferences, I have observed that many new users would appreciate some assistance in becoming comfortable with a program that is more capable, but also more complex, than their previous genealogy programs," said the author. "This guide is intended to fill that meet that need."

The book introduces the reader to TMG with the following topics:

- TMG's basic concepts

- Getting your initial data into TMG

- Finding your way around TMG

- Establishing personal standards for data entry

- Adding or editing people, events, and sources

- Creating Reports and Charts

For readers ready to explore more advanced features it continues with more advanced topics:

- Customizing the program's Screens

- Customizing Events and Sources

- Using Witnesses and Roles

- Understanding Projects and Data Sets

"This is a great introduction for new users!" says John Cardinal, author of Second Site, TMG Utility, and other companion programs for TMG. "Terry explains complicated topics in terms a beginner can understand, and he explains the concepts as well as the specific steps to make fast, effective use of TMG. Even experienced users will learn from this book, particularly in the chapters about more advanced topics. Terry's TMG Tips web site is a great resource for TMG users, and now Terry has expanded that with 'A Primer for The Master Genealogist'."

"'A Primer for The Master Genealogist' is a 'must have' for the new user. With its easy to read format and multiple illustrations even those seemingly complex features and tasks are easy to understand," said Mark A. Cunningham, a TMG user for two months. "I wish I had had a copy of this book when I first started using The Master Genealogist."

The book is currently available from Wholly Genes Software in Columbia, Maryland, at www.whollygenes.com/primer.htm, and from Gould Genealogy in Modbury, Australia, at www.gould.com.au. The suggested retail price is $19.95 in the U.S. and AU$29.95, including GS Tax, in Australia. More information is available at www.reigelridge.com/press

About the Author: The author is well known as an expert user of TMG and a frequent contributor to the on-line TMG user support forums. He is the author of Terry's TMG Tips, a website with over 75 articles, many also available in German. He has written several articles about TMG for newsletters published by user groups and two chapters in the sell-out book "Getting the Most Out of The Master Genealogist." He is not affiliated with Wholly Genes Software.

=== New Downloadable Data Products =================

The following digitized products are among our most popular data CDs and are now alternatively available as a download, thereby saving the cost of shipping:

Henry Campbell Black, M.A., A DICTIONARY OF LAW CONTAINING DEFINITIONS OF THE TERMS AND PHRASES OF AMERICAN AND ENGLISH JURISPRUDENCE, ANCIENT AND MODERN (FIRST EDITION and SECOND EDITION) (DOWNLOAD), (1891 and 1910) 2006.

(aka Black's Law Dictionary)

$29.95 http://www.WhollyGenes.com/find_wg.mvc?ref...amp;p=US0211-DL

Every genealogist, regardless of their time and place of interest, must have a copy of Black's Law Dictionary in their library. Legal terminology differs from place to place and time to time, and successful genealogical research depends on the clear understanding of this changing terminology. The publishers of Black's Law Dictionary are now producing their eighth edition, and the newer editions have added information on the developments in the law in recent decades. But for genealogists the earlier editions retain their value, since they have a higher proportion of information on older law, especially the English feudal law, which is essential for the interpretation of documents from the American colonial period and from the England that the colonists left. (more...)

Robley Dunglison, M.D., LL.D., MEDICAL LEXICON. A DICTIONARY OF MEDICAL SCIENCE (DOWNLOAD), (1865) 2006.

$19.95 http://www.WhollyGenes.com/find_wg.mvc?ref...amp;p=US0226-DL

This compendious volume is far more than a dictionary, providing a wide range of medical information as it was known at the end of the Civil War. The author has added much to this second edition of his work, and has designed it to be "A French As Well As An English Medical Lexicon." There are many areas of terminology included here, included anatomy, chemistry, herbal medicine, pharmacology, and many more. Latin and French forms of many words are given, and Latin and Greek etymologies are also frequent. There are also unexpected data sets dispersed through the volume in their proper alphabetic place, such as spas and health resorts, both in Europe and in the United States, or the terminology used in various magical systems of healing. (more...)

Frank Esshom, PIONEERS AND PROMINENT MEN OF UTAH, COMPRISING PHOTOGRAPHS - GENEALOGIES - BIOGRAPHIES (DOWNLOAD), (1913) 2006.

$34.95 http://www.WhollyGenes.com/find_wg.mvc?ref...amp;p=US0212-DL

The author has collected nearly six thousand photographs of Utah pioneers (before 1869) and other prominent early members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In a separate section are included brief biographical and genealogical sketches of these men and many more from the same era. This large volume is divided into three sections. The first seven hundred pages are devoted to the photographs, nine to a page. Next are the sketches, filling nearly six hundred pages. The book concludes with a brief chronological history of the church. The pioneers are those who arrived in Utah between 24 July 1647 and 30 December 1868, before the coming of the railroad. To these are added other prominent Utahans who arrived after the coming of the railroad, such as stake presidents, ward bishops and governors. (more...)

Andrew Jenson, LATTER-DAY SAINT BIOGRAPHICAL ENCYCLOPEDIA: A COMPILATION OF BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCHES OF PROMINENT MEN AND WOMEN IN THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS (DOWNLOAD), (1901-1936) 2006.

$34.95 http://www.WhollyGenes.com/find_wg.mvc?ref...amp;p=US0213-DL

These four volumes comprise more than three thousand biographies of the early leaders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, many accompanied by photographs. The author has included accounts of all the general authorities and many of the presidents and bishops of the stakes and wards. Andrew Jenson was Assistant Church Historian, and so these sketches carry the authorization of the church. The sketches are organized hierarchically, beginning with Joseph Smith and Brigham Young, and continuing through the fifth president, Lorenzo Snow, still living at the time of the publication of this volume. These are followed by accounts of the counsellors to the presidents, the members of the Council of Twelve Apostles, and so on down the church structure. Sketches of many women are included. (more...)

John E. Stillwell, M.D., HISTORICAL AND GENEALOGICAL MISCELLANY: DATA RELATING TO THE SETTLEMENT AND SETTLERS OF NEW YORK AND NEW JERSEY (VOLUMES I AND II) AND EARLY SETTLERS OF NEW JERSEY AND THEIR DESCENDANTS (VOLUMES III, IV AND V) (DOWNLOAD), (1903-1932) 2006.

$27.95 http://www.WhollyGenes.com/find_wg.mvc?ref...amp;p=US0209-DL

These five volumes, two providing a wide range of colonial source material and three presenting compiled genealogies, constitute at the same time an essential reference work for Monmouth County, New Jersey, and an important broader source for the early years of New Jersey, New York and New England. The author began the work as a study of the Stillwell family, but soon discovered that he needed to broaden his research to many related and associated families, and so ended up with a collection of materials on many records and families of Monmouth County. He also went beyond this to include data on these same families in their earlier residences in New York and New England. (more...)

Bishop [William] Meade, OLD CHURCHES, MINISTERS AND FAMILIES OF VIRGINIA (DOWNLOAD), (1857) 2006.

$27.95 http://www.WhollyGenes.com/find_wg.mvc?ref...amp;p=US0236-DL

This history of the Episcopal Church in Virginia focusses on a narrative of each parish in the state, with biographical and genealogical details on many of the early ministers and prominent members of that church. Complete transcripts of many colonial documents are included for most of the parishes. Like so many other nineteenth-century antiquaries, Bishop Meade conducted his research through a combination of onsite visits and correspondence with other antiquaries. In the preparation of this history, which was first published as a series of eighty newspaper articles, he attempted to locate and examine the surviving vestry books for each parish. (more...)

Cotton Mather, MAGNALIA CHRISTI AMERICANA; OR, THE ECCLESIASTICAL HISTORY OF NEW-ENGLAND; FROM ITS FIRST PLANTING, IN THE YEAR, 1620, UNTO THE YEAR OF OUR LORD 1698, 2 VOLUMES (DOWNLOAD), 1855.

$29.95 http://www.WhollyGenes.com/find_wg.mvc?ref...amp;p=US0249-DL

Cotton Mather was the most prolific writer of colonial New England. In these two magnificent volumes, he preserves much history of the institution that became the Congregational Church. Most importantly, he collected important biographical information on nearly all the early New England ministers. Mather knew no moderation in collecting information and putting it in print. Although the work is described as an ecclesiastical history, there is more to it than that. Mather also presented accounts of the founding of the various New England colonies, with biographical sketches of the governors of those colonies and of some other leading citizens. He also included accounts of the early history of Harvard College and of the Indian wars of the seventeenth century. (more...)
